Survey data from stakeholders on the demand side of Nigeria's online budget
<p>The survey data was collected during field work from key personnel on the demand side of the national budget preparation process in Nigeria. This was done as part of the stakeholder survey on the case study investigating the use of the online national budget of Nigeria which is part of the 'Exploring the Emerging Impacts of Open Data in Developing Countries' (ODDC) research project.</p>
Dataset: Survey on the actual situation of antibiotic resistant bacteria detection by nucleic acid amplification test in clinical microbiology laboratories at hospitals in Japan: Online survey of participants in workshops organized by the Nara Association of Medical Technologists
<p>The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has led to the widespread use of the nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT), along with an increase in demand for SARS-CoV-2 tests. NAAT has been used to detect antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes since before the pandemic, but the test has been performed in a limited number of facilities. We investigated the current status and background of Japanese clinical laboratories by surveying the implementation of genotypic AST in NAAT, which has become widespread owing to the pandemic. This means that 59% of the respondents possessed NAAT and were using it for genotypic AST. GeneXpert and FilmArray were introduced in the majority of cases (62.5% and 82.6%, respectively), with the pandemic as the trigger. More than half of the respondents cited “rapid detection” (56.0%) and “ICT requests” (52.4%) as the reasons for introducing the system. Regarding usefulness, “contribution to infectious disease treatment” (74.1%) showed the highest percentage. Among the respondents who cited “not implemented”, the most frequent responses were “I have no plans, but I want to do it.” (38.1%) and “would do so if requested by a physician” (33.3%). The most common reason for not implementing the system was concern about increased workload (52.9%). We believe that this is due to changes in the working environment caused by the pandemic and the characteristics of Japanese society. In the future, to promote the adoption of genotypic AST, it will be necessary to approach it through reports on its usefulness from domestic facilities, and simultaneously, improving and enhancing efficiency in work processes will also be essential.</p>
"Towards Responsible Publishing" - Online researcher survey questionnaire
<p><a href="https://www.research-consulting.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Research Consulting</a> and the <a href="https://www.cwts.nl/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS)</a> were commissioned to determine to what extent the vision, mission and objectives set out in the TRP proposal serve the needs of the global research community. Through a consultative approach, we sought to assess whether there is appetite for the type of change proposed by cOAlition S in the TRP proposal. In addition, we aimed to understand how the ‘Towards Responsible Publishing’ proposal may be modified or refined to ensure it resonates with the research community and sees broad adoption; identify any showstoppers or unintended consequences and propose proactive measures to mitigate them, ensuring successful implementation; and ascertain whether the existing scholaly communication infrastructure can support this proposal and if not, identify where research funders can strengthen the infrastructure.</p> <p>As part of the consultation, the Centre for Science and Technology Studies and Research Consulting developed a researcher survey to gather researcher feedback on aspects of the scholarly communication system. This deposit provides our online survey questionnaire.</p>

Data for: Gender medicine teaching increases medical students' gender awareness: results of a quantitative online survey
<p><span><strong>Background</strong> </span></p> <p><span>Gender medical knowledge is insufficiently integrated into university teaching in Germany. Gender awareness represents a key competence to integrate this knowledge into one's medical practice. This study is the first survey of the gender awareness of medical students in Germany.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Methods</span> </strong></p> <p><span>From April to July 2021, a quantitative cross-sectional survey in an online format using the 'Nijmegen Gender Awareness in Medicine Scale' (2008) was conducted at four German universities (Charité Berlin, Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, and the University of Cologne) with a varied implementation of teaching gender medicine. Students indicated their agreement or disagreement with assumptions and knowledge about the influence of gender in everyday medical practice (gender sensitivity), as well as gender role stereotypes towards patients and physicians (gender role ideology). </span></p> <p><strong><span>Results </span></strong></p> <p><span>The 750 included participants showed a relatively high gender sensitivity and low gender role stereotyping towards patients and doctors. The curricular implementation of gender medicine of the universities showed to have a significant influence on the students' gender sensitivity, as well as on their gender role stereotyping towards patients. Students who reported having taken classes in gender medicine showed significantly higher level of gender sensitivity. Cis-males showed significantly lower gender sensitivity and significantly higher gender role stereotyping.</span></p> <p><span><strong>Conclusion</strong> </span></p> <p><span>Implementation of gender medicine in the medical curriculum, attending courses on gender education and one's gender have a significant impact on medical students' gender competencies. These results support the need for structural integration of gender in medical education and gender trainings at medical schools in Germany.</span></p>

Perception of Artificial Intelligence Among Japanese Medical Technologists and the Significance of Seminars on Emerging Technologies: An Online Survey of the Nara Association of Medical Technologists
<p><span>This study aimed to investigate Japanese medical technologists' perceptions of AI in laboratory medicine and evaluate the significance of seminars on emerging technologies. An online survey was conducted before and after a seminar titled " Artificial Intelligence and Clinical Laboratory: A Tale of the Encounter between Deep Tech and Medical Technicians" held on August 19, 2023. Responses were analyzed using Fisher's exact test, and free-text responses were analyzed using a co-occurrence network. Of the 278 pre-seminar respondents, 62.9% had positive attitudes towards AI. The AI-positive group showed significantly higher usage of AI-related web services (p<0.01) and more proactive information-seeking behavior (p<0.05) compared to the non-positive group. Post-seminar, support for "AI results must always be verified by medical technologists" significantly decreased (p<0.05). Additionally, 63.9% of the 169 participants expressed intent to actively gather information in the future. Free-text responses revealed expectations for work improvement, quality enhancement, and technological advancement, alongside concerns about AI implementation. The results suggest that while many respondents view AI positively, their expectations are predicated on maintaining traditional roles. The seminar appeared to catalyze information-seeking behavior. This study revealed Japanese medical technologists' positive perceptions of AI and concluded that seminars including explanations of emerging technologies and discussions are valuable. These findings may contribute to discussions on AI implementation in laboratory medicine and the design of continuing education programs for medical technologists.</span></p>

Data from: Tradeoffs in moving citizen-based anuran call surveys online during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: lessons from rural Appalachia, USA
<p>Citizen science approaches provide adaptable methodologies for enhancing the natural history knowledge of understudied taxa and engaging underserved populations with biodiversity. However, transitions to remote, virtual training and participant recruitment in response to public health crises like the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic have the potential to disrupt citizen science projects. We present a comparison of outputs from a citizen science initiative built around call surveys for the Mountain Chorus Frog (<i>Pseudacris brachyphona</i>), an understudied anuran, in Appalachian Virginia, USA prior to and during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. A transition to virtual training in this initiative did not lead to a decrease in scientific output and led to unexpected natural history insight about our focal taxon; however, a reliance on virtual instruction did decrease overall participation by local residents, particularly for rural K-12 students. We discuss the tradeoffs exhibited by the adaptation of our initiative to a virtual format and provide recommendations for other citizen science initiatives facing similar restrictions in the face of current and future public health crises.</p>
