Perceived academic stress, hair and saliva cortisol concentrations, and their relationship with anthropometric measures associated with obesity in first-year medical students.
<p>Cortisol plays an important role between stress, weight gain, and the development of obesity. Therefore, we investigated the association between stress, eating behavior, cortisol, and anthropometric measures related to obesity in a sample of medical students. We determined cortisol concentrations by ELISA and related it to self-reported stress, eating behavior, and anthropometric measurements throughout the academic period. We report an increase in hair cortisol, higher self-reported stress scores, and BMI mainly in females. Finally, we found evidence of positive associations between capillary cortisol and BMI. Also, eating behavior is affected by perceived stress mainly in females.</p> <p>In this database, we provide weight variables, BMI, psychometric tests, and hormonal determinations.</p> <p><br> You can see two sheets in the Excel file. Sheet 1 includes the raw data and sheet 2 includes a description of each variable, as well as the bibliography (article or book) where each survey or protocol was obtained.</p> <p><br> In addition, the data specify the units of the hormonal variables, as well as the units of the anthropometric variables. Summary of the comparative analyses between the examination models as perceived by teachers and students.
<p>Comparisons were made between model A: traditional face-to-face examination, model B: open-book examination with proctoring, model C: open book examination without proctoring. The results show that for teachers and students open-book exams with or without proctoring had no significant differences and are more in line with an authentic assessment than face-to-face exams.</p>
From silk to sand: Multiple dimensions of perceived softness
<p>From silk to sand: Hand explorations are determined by the characteristics of the perceptual space of real-world materials</p> <p> </p> <p>Perceiving mechanical properties of objects, i.e., how they react to physical forces, is a crucial ability in many aspects of life, from choosing an avocado to picking your clothes. There is, a wide variety of materials that differ substantially in their mechanical properties. For example, both, silk and sand deform and change shape in response to exploration forces, but each does so in very different ways. Studies show that the haptic perceptual space has multiple dimensions corresponding to the physical properties of textures, however in these experiments the range of materials or exploratory movements were restricted. Here we investigate the perceptual dimensionality in a large set of real materials in a free haptic exploration task. Thirty-two participants actively explored deformable and non-deformable materials with their hands and rated them on several attributes. Using the semantic differential technique, video analysis and linear classification, we found four haptic dimensions, each associated with a distinct set of hand and finger movements during active exploration. Appendices of the work "On the perceived relevance of critical internal quality attributes when evolving software features"
<p><strong>Context:</strong> Several refactorings performed while evolving software features aim to improve internal quality attributes like cohesion and complexity. Studies shows that non-assisted refactorings might worsen, not improve, internal attributes. Current knowledge is scarce on how developers perceive the relevance of critical internal attributes while evolving features. Internal attributes are critical if their measurement assumes anomalous values. <strong>Objective:</strong> This qualitative study aims at revealing the developer's perception on the relevance of critical internal attributes when evolving features. We target six class-level critical attributes: low cohesion, high complexity, high coupling, large hierarchy depth, large hierarchy breadth, and large size. <strong>Method:</strong> We performed two industry case studies based on online focus group sessions. We asked developers to discuss how much (and why) critical attributes are relevant for adding or enhancing features. We assessed the relevance of critical attributes individually and relatively, reasons behind the relevance of each critical attribute, and interrelations of critical attributes. <strong>Results:</strong> Low cohesion and high complexity were perceived as very relevant because they often make evolving features hard while tracking failures and adding features. The other critical attributes were perceived as less relevant when reusing code or adopting design patterns, for instance. Examples of interrelations include large size leads to low cohesion and high complexity leads to high coupling. <strong>Conclusions:</strong> Our findings could be combined with previous results on how refactorings affect quality attributes to assist developers in applying refactorings that may have a practically relevant impact on critical attributes.</p>

Data on the administrative workload and perceived administrative burden of farmers in Switzerland
<table> <tbody> <tr> <td> <p>We present data from a paper-and-pencil survey of Swiss farmers. The survey was mailed to 2,000 randomly selected Swiss farmers from the two largest Swiss language regions (German and French) in February 2019. A reminder was sent in April 2019. The response rate was around 40% (N = 808). In the main part of the survey, we collected quantitative data on farmers’ workload and perceived burden due to (1) overall farming activities, (2) administrative activities related to the application of direct payments, and (3) other office work related to farm planning, bookkeeping, purchasing, and sales. We also asked farmers to rate their current workload and perceived administrative burden compared to five years earlier. We also collected data on the perceived burden of using e-government services, the administrative workload of various voluntary direct payment schemes, and the workload of inspections and sanctions. We collected personal information about the farmers, such as age, education, work experience on the farm, work outside the farm, and their political activities (e.g. as a board or executive member in political or agricultural organisations). Finally, the farmers were asked to rate a series of statements regarding agricultural policy measures, the importance of inspection measures, the obligation to provide proof of eligibility for direct payments, information on current policy measures, and the justification of penalties for non-compliance with environmental or animal welfare standards. The survey results showed that, on average, Swiss farmers spent 3–5% of their total working time on administrative tasks. Based on a 60-hour working week, this means that, on average, farmers spent about 1.8–3 hours per working week on administrative activities. The farmers rated the perceived burden of administrative activities as higher than the burden of overall farming activities or other office work. The results also showed that the time spent on administrative activities and the associated perceived administrative burden had increased compared to five years earlier. Finally, the results showed that 28% of the Swiss farmers had received a penalty for non-compliance with direct payment regulations.</p> <p> </p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table>

<p>In an experimental study on visual perception, addressing directly Gestalt phenomena, a new<br> Gestalt cue for figure-ground assignment was introduced (Vechera et al., 2002). The foreground<br> versus the background organization is a strong determinant for decisions on objects seen among<br> image elements. A well-known set of perceptual cues that are often called Gestalt cues are the size<br> or area, the symmetry and the convexity vs. concavity judgments. It is generally assumed that<br> figures are ‘small, symmetrical and convex’. The authors asked the question whether these cues are<br> all that are necessary for a region of the image to be judged as a figure. The main result of this study<br> is that regions in the lower portion of a stimulus array appear more figure-like than regions in the<br> upper portion of the display.</p>

At high magnetic fields, MR images exhibit high signal intensity variations that result from heterogeneous RF coil profiles. We therefore acquired both T1w images and PDw images using a magnetization-prepared 3D rapid gradient-echo (3D MPRAGE) sequence (TR: 3100 ms (T1w) or 1440 ms (PDw), voxel size = 0.6 mm isotropic, FOV = 230 x 230 mm2, matrix = 384 x 384, slices = 256, TE = 2.52 ms, FA = 5°). Acquisition time was reduced by using 3× GRAPPA parallel imaging and 6/8 Partial Fourier in phase encoding direction (acquisition time (TA): 8 min 49 s (T1w) and 4 min 6 s (PDw)).</p> <p>To determine our region of interest, we acquired two hMT+ localiser runs. We used a 2D gradient echo (GE) echo planar imaging (EPI) sequence (1.6 mm isotropic nominal resolution; TE/TR = 18/2000 ms; in-plane field of view (FoV) 150×150 mm; matrix size 94 x 94; 28 slices; nominal flip angle (FA) = 69°; echo spacing = 0.71 ms; GRAPPA factor = 2, partial Fourier = 7/8; phase encoding direction head - foot; 240 volumes). We ensured that the area of acquisition had bilateral coverage of the posterior inferior temporal sulci, where we expected the hMT+ areas. Before acquisition of the first functional run, we collected 10 volumes for distortion correction - 5 volumes with the settings specified here and 5 more volumes with identical settings but opposite phase encoding (foot - head), here called "phase1" and "phase2".</p> <p>For the sub-millimetre measurements (Experiments 1: here called "task-ambiguous" and Experiments 2: here called "task-unambiguous"), we used a 2D GE EPI sequence (TE/TR = 25.6/2000 ms; in-plane FoV 148×148 mm; matrix size 186 x 186; slices = 28; nominal FA = 69°; echo spacing = 1.05 ms; GRAPPA factor = 3, partial Fourier = 6/8; phase encoding direction head - foot; 300 volumes), yielding a nominal resolution of 0.8 mm isotropic. Placement of the small functional slab was guided by online analysis of the hMT+ localizer data recorded immediately at the beginning of the first session. This allowed us to ensure bilateral coverage of area hMT+ for every subject. In the second scanning session, the slab was placed using Siemens auto-align functionality and manual corrections. Before acquisition of the first functional run, we collected 10 volumes for distortion correction (5 volumes with opposite phase encoding: foot - head). During acquisition, runs for the ambiguous and unambiguous motion experiments were interleaved.</p>
PERCEIVE: WP4: Spatial determinants of policy performance and synergies: Task4.4: Cohesion Policy vs Urban and Rural policies to address spatial discrepancies in EU territorial policy
<p>This dataset consists of data addressing the relationship between territorial cohesion objectives and the problems perceived by citizens. In particular a comparative analysis between the case study regions will generate data useful for identifying best practices in mixing the EU policy instruments for a better achievement of regional needs. Data that will be generated via focus groups interviews among representatives of LMA (local management authorities) in 2 Polish regions: Dolnośląskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie . Interview transcripts and report was used to address how territorial cohesion objectives match the “real problems” of regions. The focus groups were built around the following main topics: 1) governance of the Cohesion Policy projects, in order to understand how different authorities at different levels cooperate and share the responsibilities for the implementation of the Cohesion Policy; 2) level of citizen engagement, in order to understand whether a bottom-up approach is used; 3) how the media inform on the Cohesion Policy programmes, in order to appreciate the discrepancies (if any) about the aims of Cohesion Policy and its construction on the public discourse. Comparing current and past programming periods, we investigate how the policy performs in reducing the gap between territorial cohesion objectives and “real problems” defined by LMAs and citizens. Because it is project-specific data and reflects the concept and methodology of the study under PERCEIVE they are perceived as unique - similar data does not exist. Potential users are be Regional Policy’s European/National/Local policy makers and practitioners, European networks and associations looking to data on LMA opinions on cohesion policy implementation in Poland to be used in policy recommendation, studies and policy making process; next group of potential data users are researchers working on assessment of Cohesion Policy, data may be used as a source for topic-related studies, case studies, comparisons.</p> <p>The dataset is made up of 5 files: 2 files consist of reports from the workshops, 2 files consist in transcripts of interviews to practitioners, beneficiaries and targets of the Cohesion Policy projects in the Polish selected case‐study regions. Interviewees are asked to provide their views and perceptions on the multilevel governance system, on the communication activities of the Operational Programmes and on the effectiveness of Cohesion Policy. 1 readme file is included.</p>
