The Beauty of Palmyra (200-250 AD)
**"The Beauty of Palmyra"** Read my Art Spotlight on the Model here!: sketchfab.com/blogs/community/art-spotlight-the-beauty-of-palmyra/ (AD 200-250) Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen Material: White Limestone DIM: H 57; W 39; D 20 (cm) **3D Scan done in Meshroom with 135 photos using a LG v20 phone, and then cleaned in Blender.** Color reconstruction by Glyptoteket *The portrait"The Beauty of Palmyra" was acquired in 1929 from an excavation in Palmyra, by Danish archaeologist Harald Ingholt. Her real name is unknown, but the beauty and wealth of detail in the face, jewellery and costume are striking.* *Visible on her cheeks, hair, jewellery and clothes are traces of colours. There is no doubt that The Beauty of Palmyra was once painted.* *The Portrait of The Beauty of Palmyra was used to seal her tomb. There was often an inscription on the tomb portrait saying who the deceased was, but the inscription on The Beauty's tomb has been lost.* -Info courtesy of Glyptoteket- Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Diet DNA metabarcoding data from spiders (Heteropoda venatoria) from Palmyra Atoll (2015-2017) with both individual samples that have and have not been surface sterilized
<p>These are data and code from a study examining the potential for surface contamination to influence diet DNA metabarcoding datasets when DNA is sequenced from full body parts (in this case, the opisthosomas of spider individuals). These datasets include the raw sequencing data, all downstream datasets, and taxonomic assignments collected from database searches on BOLD and GenBank (accessed 2019). The code includes code to reproduce all bioinformatics (merge, filter, match to taxonomies, rarefy, sort) as well as all statistics and figures generated from analyses. Raw data are from DNA extractions of predator gut regions (opisthosomas) and amplification of the CO1 gene using PCR. The predator species is <em>Heteropoda venatoria </em>collected individually with sterilized implements and either the diet sequences from their natural diets were extracted or their diets following feeding spiders in a feeding trial. </p>
A Journey to Palmyra
<p>“A Journey to Palmyra” is a critical aesthetic experience that seeks to disrupt our habits and rituals. The project involves two common elements that are embedded in everyday life but rarely questioned: on the one hand, media coverage of war, and on the other, navigation using Google. It represents a cunning way of questioning two things that have become commonplace. In a world of fake news, filter bubbles, and artificial intelligence, how prudent is reliance on a source of information?</p> <p><br> Google Maps and directions are firmly embedded in our everyday lives. We use those services every day to find a location, route, or restaurant and navigate to our destination with the aid of a technological device. They suggest a world in which we are free in the selection and production of information, but how can we actually be certain that the information is objective or even correct?</p> <p> </p> <p>Dr. Christine Schranz (principal investigator)</p> <p>Yann Patrick Martins (coding)</p> <p>Max Frischknecht (UI)</p> <p> </p> <p>Archaeologies of Media and Technology (AMT) research group (partner)</p>

Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
