Data from: Akaganeite nanorices deposited muscovite mica surfaces as sunlight active green photocatalyst
Thin-films of akaganeite [FeO(OH)] nanorices deposited muscovite mica (ANPM) surfaces are produced using the facile urea assisted controlled self-assembly technique. The synthesized materials are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The prepared nanorices on mica surfaces show average particle length and width as 200 nm and 50 nm respectively. Synthesized material acts as an efficient photocatalyst under UV and sunlight conditions as demonstrated by the degradation of standard methylene blue solution. The methylene blue degradation efficiencies of the catalyst under exposure to 180 min sunlight and UV are 89% and 87.5% respectively which shows that the catalyst is highly active under sunlight than under UV light. Therefore, the synthesized material is a potential green photocatalyst in efficient treatment of industrial dye effluents under direct sunlight.

Facile approach to defect-rich ZnO photocatalysts for visible light dye degradation
<p>We established an effective synthesis approach to prepare planar-defect-rich-zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles via a facile coprecipitation technique. The effect of acetate, sulfate, and nitrate salt precursors along with synthesis temperature on the physiochemical behavior of ZnO nanoparticles was explored. Various analytical techniques were utilized to illustrate the present phases, intrinsic structure, extrinsic morphology, and optical properties of the final products. Pure hexagonal wurtzite phase for the ZnO nanoparticles with spherical morphology ranging from 30 nm to 70 nm in size displayed superior photocatalytic activity owing to the presence of a high density of dislocation and stacking faults. A visible-light photocatalytic degradation study of methylene blue and rhodamine B dye was carried out. Prepared ZnO nanoparticles were able to degrade over 93% of 22 MB dye and 98.85% RhB dye in an hour. This excellent visible-light photocatalytic activity is credited to the porous nature of the nanoparticles offering increased surface area and the presence of planar defects which effectively repress electron-hole recombination by taking care of charge carrier trapping and transferring.</p>

DFT and TDDFT-predicted equilibrium structures of bipyridine-annulated perylene tetracarboxylic ester photocatalysts with PdCl2 and PtCl2
<p>Fully relaxed equilibrium structures of <strong>P-Pd</strong> and <strong>P-Pt</strong> as predicted at the DFT and TDDFT levels of theory (B3LYP/def2-SVP) including D3BJ dispersion correction and implicit solvent effects (CH2Cl2). Both photocatalysts were optimized in singlet (S0) and triplet multiplicity in order to evaluate the Franck-Condon photophysics as well as the prominent triplet species involved in the photphysical and photochemical properties, i.e. triplet intra-ligand (3IL) and triplet metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) states. The multiplicity is indicated in the filename.</p>
