Raw Data for the article: COVID-19 safety measures at the Radiology Unit of a Transplant Institute: the non-COVID-19 patient's confidence with safety procedures

<p><strong>Purpose:&nbsp;</strong>To support the wellbeing of both patients and their families, our aim was to investigate the satisfaction of non-COVID in- and out-patients regarding safety measures implemented at our radiology unit of a transplant institute against COVID infection.</p> <p><strong>Materials and methods:&nbsp;</strong>Over a five-month period, adult patients&#39; feedback was obtained by a questionnaire on the fear of contracting COVID-19 during a radiology examination, the perceived delay in treatment, and the following safety measures implemented: modified schedules to limit the number of patients in the waiting area and to maximize social distancing; assistance by staff when visitors were not admitted; cleaning and disinfection of machines; mask wearing and hand hygiene of staff; and staff advice on hand hygiene and infection control precautions.</p> <p><strong>Results:&nbsp;</strong>Over a five-month period, our preliminary results (387 patients) showed general patient satisfaction (99.1%) with safety measures applied at our radiology unit. Patients were satisfied with distancing and assistance by staff (100%), cleaning and disinfection (91%), mask wearing and hand hygiene of the staff (97%), and staff advice (94%). There was some criticism of the perceived delay in treatment (7.3%) and in the scheduling of the waiting list (5.4%), with 5.4% fearing contracting the virus. Patients&#39; awareness of safety measures and confidence in the hospital preparedness policy was perceived by all interviewers, and 100% appreciated being questioned.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion:&nbsp;</strong>The feedback given by the non-COVID patient helps to measure the quality in health care, to improve the quality service, and to protect and satisfy more vulnerable patients, also during the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>

Measurements of Natural Radioactivity and Radiological Hazards Assessment in Some Commercial Ceramic Tiles used in Ethiopia.

<p>Ceramic tile is a widely used decorative building material. The natural radionuclideconcentration ( 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K) of ceramic wall and floor tiles typically used in Ethiopia was determined using an HPG detector. The study&amp;#39;s goals are to determine the activity concentration of ceramic tiles as well as evaluate their health-related effects. The average activity concentrations of 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K were 68.06 &plusmn; 2.07 Bq kg -1 , 131.19 &plusmn; 3.82 Bq kg -1 , and 802.04 &plusmn; 23.41 Bq kg -1 , respectively, which was found to be greater than the global mean. The calculated average value of Raeq was &amp;lt; 370 Bq kg -1 , which is the limiting dose recommended for bulk medium. In addition, the related radiological hazard metrics, such as absorbed dose, annual effective dose equivalent, excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR), internal (H in ) and external (H ex ) hazard indexes, gamma index (I &gamma; ), and alpha index (I &alpha; ), were determined. The findings were contrasted with regional, global,and national legal frameworks as well as other similar studies&amp;#39; findings. According to the results, using the examined ceramic tiles in buildings does not significantly increase radiation exposure.</p>

Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak on radiology research: an Italian survey

<p>This article reports the results of a national survey, which had the purpose of understanding how COVID-19 pandemic has changed the scientific activity of Italian radiology researchers. A total of 327 Italian radiologists took part in the survey (mean age: 49&plusmn;12 years). The majority of participants (245/327, 74.9%) was not working for or in agreement with a University and most of them were hospital staff radiologists (222/327, 67.9%). More than two-thirds of surveyed radiologists (231/327, 71%) was working in a public institution, which mostly was a general hospital (188/327, 57.5%); 86/327 (26.3%) participants declared to work in a university hospital.&nbsp; After national lockdown, the working-flow came back to normal in the vast majority of cases (285/327, 87.2%). Participants reported that a total of 462 radiological trials were recruiting patients at their institutions prior to COVID-19 outbreak, of which 332 (71.9%) were stopped during the emergency. On the other hand, 252 radiological trials have been started during the pandemic, of which 156 were non-COVID-19 trials (61.9%) and 96 were focused on COVID-19 patients (38.2%). Participants reported a significant increase of the number of hours per week spent for research purposes during national lockdown (mean 4.5&plusmn;8.9 hours during lockdown vs. 3.3&plusmn;6.8 hours before lockdown; p=.046), followed by a significant drop after lockdown (3.2&plusmn;6.5 hours per week, p=.035). Notably, 60% of participants reported that they do not spend any time on research. During national lockdown, 15.6% of participants started new review articles and completed old papers, 14.1% completed old works, and 8.9% started new review articles. Ninety-six surveyed radiologists (29.3%) declared to have submitted at least one article during COVID-19 emergency. This study confirms the need to be prepared to future challenging scenarios like COVID-19 emergency in order to support radiology researchers, thereby allowing them to push forward their activity.</p>

CONCORDANCE OF BRONCHOSCOPIC AND RADIOLOGICAL FINDINGS IN SUSPECTED LUNG CANCER AND ITS OUTCOME- A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

<p>Background</p> <p>Bronchoscopy and CT thorax are the most common investigations utilized to screen and diagnose lung cancer. Their individual utility in diagnosing lung cancer has been described affirmatively in existing literature. Studies correlating the airway characteristics of the two modalities in lung cancer are few.</p> <p>Objectives</p> <p>To analyze and characterize lung lesions bronchoscopically and correlate the same radiologically by CT of the thorax and thus assess its positive predictive value.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>56 consecutive adults who presented to Respiratory Medicine Department at a tertiary care hospital in South India from November 2018 to June 2020, having Clinico-radiological suspicion of malignancy and fulfilling study criteria were recruited. They were subjected to CECT of thorax and bronchoscopy. All bronchoscopic procedures were performed using a protocolized number of passes for biopsy. The baseline demographic and clinical data, findings of bronchoscopy and CT and biopsy reports were recorded. Cohens kappa coefficient was used to estimate the agreement of findings on the two modalities. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Bronchoscopy was normal in 22.14 % of cases, the corresponding CTs also revealed normal airway. Bronchoscopy revealed airway lesions in 78.6 % cases; the corresponding CT revealed airway abnormalities in only 46.41 % of cases, among these 52.1 % of cases revealed an exophytic growth. There was fair strength of agreement for the two modalities in the detection of airway lesions of lung cancer. [k= 0.38, p = &lt;0.001]. CECT thorax has a negative predictive value of 44 %, a sensitivity of 59.1 % and specificity of 100 % at 95 % CI in the detection of airway lesions.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>CT is not definitive in the evaluation of lung cancer, especially in those with central disease. Combination of the two modalities improves the diagnostic outcome in patients with lung cancer.</p> <p>Keywords- Thoracic Oncology, Bronchogenic Carcinoma, Adenocarcinoma of lung, Bronchoscopy, Diagnostic Imaging, Multidetector Computed Tomography.</p>
