Delta-X: Bed and Suspended Sediment Grain Size, MRD, LA, USA, 2019-2021, V3
This dataset includes sediment concentration and grain size distribution measurements from suspended and bed sediment samples collected in the Atchafalaya River and Terrebonne Basins as part of the Delta-X Spring campaign between March 25 and April 2, 2021, and the Delta-X Fall campaign between August 17 and 22, 2021. In addition, ten samples were collected during a field campaign in October 2019. Samples were collected in the main channels and the interior of Mike Island in the Wax Lake Delta, Louisiana and at site CRMS0421 inside the Terrebonne Basin. Sediment samples were collected from a boat using a Van Dorn sampler (for suspended sediment samples) or a Ponar bed sampler (for bed samples). Suspended sediment samples were collected from a boat drifting at approximately the same velocity as the water flow. One sample was collected per drift. Bed samples were collected in a similar fashion. Data include measurements of sediment grain size distribution, total sediment concentration, water temperature, flow velocity, salinity, and depth. This Version 3 updates Version 2 to include data from more samples and reprocessed laser diffraction grain size distributions with optimized sediment optical properties. The data is provided in comma separated values (CSV) format.

Sediment grain size dataset of intertidal shellfish sandbanks within Ría de Arousa, Spain

The GEOMA Research group from the University of Vigo implements a solution to improve the knowledge of the sediment dynamics, the stability of the ecosystem substratum, and its response to the predicted Climate Change outcome (INTERM). The INTERM solution is based on sedimentological monitoring of sandbanks at specific locations of clam exploitation in the Ría de Arousa (Pontevedra, Spain).

Since 2022, we collected sediments in seven locations with current (Camaxe, Xastelas, O Sarrido, Fefiñans, O Bohido, and Lavanqueira) or stopped (Lombos de Ulla) shellfish activity. The sediment grain size distribution was determined by dry and wet sieving using meshes of 2, 1, 0.5, 0.25, 0.125, and 0.063 mm. We separate the sediment grain size fraction larger and smaller than 0.063mm by wet sieving. The grain size distribution of the grains larger than 0.063 was determined by dry sieving whereas for the grains smaller than 0.063 by the pipette method (see Folk, R. L. (1980). Petrology of sedimentary rocks. The grain size endmembers of Tengchongbeihai wetland sediments over the past 46 ka

Here, we present a grain size end-member analysis for Tengchongbeihai wetland sediments from southwestern China to investigate the paleo-hydroclimate changes since the late MIS3. The overall low fine silt (EM2) content before ~16.5 cal ka BP resulted from weak catchment erosion indicating weak ISM during cold glacial while the increasing trend thereafter indicates the ISM strengthened during the last deglaciation and Holocene. Such an orbital ISM evolution resembles to the insolation gradient between 25°N and 25°S during the boreal summer periods, which implies the transequatorial insolation difference could be an alternative explanation for the orbital scale low latitude hydroclimate changes. The striking peaks of coarse component (EM3) around ~12, 16, 24, 29, 32 and 39 cal ka BP were related to significant water level descending indicating the millennial ISM collapse corresponding to the YD and Heinrich events. However, the absence of sawtooth feature as the NGRIP δ18O and the well correspondence to the Indian Ocean sea surface temperatures (SSTs) of the ISM collapses evidence the complementary role of low latitude climate for the North Atlantic climate on the millennial scale hydroclimate variabilities.
