Annotated genes harboring major effect markers (R2 ≥ 15%). Highlighted in green are genes annotated from Rhodes et al. 2014,2017, in orange genes annotated as similar to Peroxidase, in yellow new annotations from sorghum genome in Atlas. In the first three columns start and stop position on the sorghum genome and transcript name, followed by the nearest marker name and the distance of the gene from the nearest marker, then a column where are shown the GWAS methods and target traits for which the linked SNP was significant, the last column shows the category of the genes.

We conducted a comprehensive genomics study to map genomic loci determining the production of antioxidants in sorghum grains. Encouraging results were obtained and published in peer-reviewed article with impact factor (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0225979). Annotated genes harboring major effect markers (R2 ≥ 15%) were identified and will be of worldwide interest.

Data from: Cre-mediated, loxP independent sequential recombination of a tripartite transcriptional stop cassette allows for partial read-through transcription

One of the widely used applications of the popular Cre-loxP method for targeted recombination is the permanent activation of marker genes, such as reporter genes or antibiotic resistance genes, by excision of a preceding transcriptional stop signal. The STOP cassette consists of three identical SV40-derived poly(A) signal repeats and is flanked by two loxP sites. We found that in addition to complete loxP-mediated recombination, limiting levels of the Cre recombinase also cause incomplete recombination of the STOP cassette. Partial recombination leads to the loss of only one or two of the three identical poly(A) repeats with recombination breakpoints always precisely matching the end/start of each poly(A) signal repeat without any relevant similarity to the canonical or known cryptic loxP sequences, suggesting that this type of Cre-mediated recombination is loxP-independent. Incomplete deletion of the STOP cassette results in partial read-through transcription, explaining at least some of the variability often observed in marker gene expression from an otherwise identical locus.

Application of artificial neural network to forecast indoor air temperature in a building with artificial ventilation: impact of early stopping.

Indoor air temperature prediction can facilitate energy-saving actions without compromising the indoor thermal comfort of occupants. The aim of this study was to analyse the performance of various artificial neural networks with a view to proposing an optimal approach for predicting the indoor temperature of a tertiary building with artificial ventilation. The MLP, CNN, LSTM models and the CNN-LSTM combination (long short-term memory network) were used and coupled with the optimisation algorithms (Adam, SGD) and the independent hyper-parameters early stopping and dropout. The parameters used are outdoor ambient temperature, outdoor relative humidity, indoor relative humidity, wet bulb temperature, black globe temperature and mean radiant temperature. The data is collected in an artificially ventilated building in Yaoundé, Cameroon. A numerical code was developed in Python to run the simulations. In order to study the impact of the parameters on the prediction, two scenarios were distinguished in this work: (1) all the parameters are input to the network, (2) only the parameters whose absolute value of the correlation coefficient was greater than or equal to 0.5 were used. The impact of early stopping is assessed by distinguishing two case studies: the first without early stopping, the second with early stopping. The results showed that without early stopping, the MLP, CNN, LSTM and CNN-LSTM networks are adequate for predicting the temperature with the second scenario, mainly with both the SGD and Adam algorithms, and CNN-LSTM is the most appropriate model because the MSE and MAE values obtained in this case were closer to 0. With early stopping, the learning time is reduced and the learning curves are improved; the models optimised better with the SGD algorithm in general, but the best neural network model was obtained with the Adam algorithm and the LSTM network for the performances MSE=0.0005, MAE=0.0130 with the second scenario.

Keywords: prediction, indoor temperature, artificial neural network, early stopping, artificially ventilated building.

Stop War

stop war a free downloadable sculpture,. In War there can be heroic persons who "dont need a ride, - but amonition" and there can be Villans, who considder killings, in a Orwelsk language, to be "special Millitary operations" - but its still the civillians and specielly the children who have no part in all this, who are the victims. My sculpture is a tribute, to the most vulnarable who also some times need to be the most braves, - and say no- and stop this war. The girl haved flied in here kanin shoes, and her sleeping clothes, - having no time, and she´s bravelly trying to protect her Teddybear, as her only belongings. That is the tale of this sculpture, and my attempt to visualize the war, in a dignified, and not sensation seeking way. My sculpture is for free, but if you like this , it would be a good gesture to donate to helping organisation who help the victims of war. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

A critique of Thompson and Ramírez-Barahona (2023) or: how I learned to stop worrying and love the fossil record

A recent study published in Biology Letters by Thompson and Ramírez-Barahona (2023) argued that, according to analyses of diversification on two massive molecular phylogenies comprising thousands of species, there is no evidence that angiosperms (i.e., flowering plants) were affected by the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction. Here I critique these conclusions from both methodological and philosophical perspectives. I demonstrate that the methods used in their study possess statistical limitations that strongly reduce the power to detect a true mass extinction event using data similar to those analyzed by Thompson and Ramírez-Barahona (2023). Additionally, I use their study as a springboard to examine the relationship between phylogenetic and fossil evidence in diversification studies.

Only the lower chamfered jambstone survives of the northern doorway into Monsea church ruins (TN020-028001-), County Tipperary. This doorway was located at the western end of the northern wall of Monsea Church. The chamfer on the angle of the doorway jambstone has a decorative terminal at the base of the doorway which is known as a chamfer stop. Playbacks of Asian honey bee stop signals demonstrate referential inhibitory communication

Referential communication provides a sophisticated way in which animals can communicate information about their environment. Previously, research demonstrated that honey bee stop signals encode predator danger in their fundamental frequency and danger context in their duration. Here, we show that these signals also encode danger in their vibrational amplitude. Stop signals elicited by the more dangerous predator, the large hornet (Vespamandarinia) had significantly 1.5-fold higher vibrational amplitudes than those elicited by the small hornet predator (Vespavelutina). We measured the freezing vibrational response thresholds, and show that these natural signals exceed response thresholds. Finally, with artificial playbacks of the vibratory stop signal, we demonstrate that these signals referentially encode the danger that foragers experience at food source. Stop signals elicited by the larger and significantly more dangerous predator (V.mandarinia) were significantly 1.4-fold more inhibitory than stop signals elicited by the smaller and less dangerous predator (V.velutina). This dataset contains all of the data used for the statistical analyses reported in this paper and to generate the figures.
