Anderson Police Department Victim Demographics 2022-2023
<p>This dataset contains demographic information on victims of violent and property crimes reported to the Anderson Police Department in Anderson, CA. The data includes information on the sex and race of victims. It covers violent crimes such as assault and robbery, as well as property crimes such as burglary and theft.</p> <p>Charges are listed by the CJIS IBR Offense Codes, not by statute. The department did not have a report for the Victim age or race in 2023 due to changing report systems in May of 2023. The reports for 2022 contain only Victim Sex and Victim Race.</p> <p>The dataset was provided by the Anderson Police Department in response to our Public Records Act request and covers the time period from Jan 1, 2022 through Dec 31, 2023. The data is presented in Word format. Each row summarizes individual offenses. The demographic labels are grouped by column.</p>
Nutritional status among landslide victims in rural Uganda
<p><span>We assessed food insecurity, diet diversity, and the right to adequate food among households in communities in Eastern Uganda that were affected by major landslides in 2010 and 2018. A prospective cohort study was applied to select 422 households during May–August (the food-plenty season) of 2019. In January–March (the food-poor season) of 2020, 388 households were re-assessed. Socio-demographic, food security, diet diversity, and right to adequate food data were collected using structured questionnaires.</span><span> Four focus group discussions and key informant interviews with 10 purposively sampled duty-bearers explored</span><span> issues of food insecurity, diet, and the right to adequate food. The affected households had significantly higher mean (SE) food insecurity scores than controls, both during the food plenty season: 15.3 (0.5) vs. 10.8 (0.5), and during food-poor season: 15.9 (0.4) vs. 12.5 (0.0). The affected households had significantly lower mean (SE) diet diversity scores than controls during the food plenty season: 5.4 (0.2) vs. 7.5 (0.2) and during the food poor season: 5.2 (0.2) vs. 7.3 (0.1). Multivariate analyses showed that the disaster, education, and main source of livelihood, significantly predicted household food security and diet diversity during the food-plenty season whereas during the food-poor season, the disaster and education were predictors. </span><span>During both food seasons, the majority of affected and control households consumed unsafe food. Cash-handout was the most preferred for ensuring the right to adequate food.</span><span> Comprehension and awareness of human rights principles and state obligations were low. </span>The severity of food-insecurity and diet diversity differed significantly between the affected and control households during both food seasons. Moreover, the right to adequate food for landslide victims was not sufficiently realized. There is a need to cater to seasonal variations, disaster effects, and the right to adequate food in order to reduce landslide victims' vulnerability to food insecurity and poor diet diversity.</p>

Data from: The journey from traffic offender to severe road trauma victim: destiny or preventive opportunity?
Background: Road trauma is a leading cause of death and injury in young people. Traffic offences are common, but their importance as a risk indicator for subsequent road trauma is unknown. This cohort study assessed whether severe road trauma could be predicted by a history of prior traffic offences. Methodology and Principal Findings: Clinical data of all adult road trauma patients admitted to the Western Australia (WA) State Trauma Centre between 1998 and 2013 were linked to traffic offences records at the WA Department of Transport. The primary outcomes were alcohol exposure prior to road trauma, severe trauma (defined by Injury Severity Score >15), and intensive care admission (ICU) or death, analyzed by logistic regression. Traffic offences directly leading to the road trauma admissions were excluded. Of the 10,330 patients included (median age 34 years-old, 78% male), 1955 (18.9%) had alcohol-exposure before road trauma, 2415 (23.4%) had severe trauma, 1360 (13.2%) required ICU admission, and 267 (2.6%) died. Prior traffic offences were recorded in 6269 (60.7%) patients. The number of prior traffic offences was significantly associated with alcohol-related road trauma (odds ratio [OR] per offence 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02–1.05), severe trauma (OR 1.13, 95%CI 1.14–1.15), and ICU admission or death (OR 1.10, 95%CI 1.08–1.11). Drink-drinking, seat-belt, and use of handheld electronic device offences were specific offences strongly associated with road trauma leading to ICU admission or death—all in a 'dose-related' fashion. For those who recovered from road trauma after an ICU admission, there was a significant reduction in subsequent traffic offences (mean difference 1.8, 95%CI 1.5 to 2.0) and demerit points (mean difference 7.0, 95%CI 6.5 to 7.6) compared to before the trauma event. Significance: Previous traffic offences were a significant risk factor for alcohol-related road trauma and severe road trauma leading to ICU admission or death.
Data from: Distinguishing the victim from the threat: SNP‐based methods reveal the extent of introgressive hybridization between wildcats and domestic cats in Scotland and inform future in situ and ex situ management options for species restoration
The degree of introgressive hybridisation between the Scottish wildcat and domestic cat has long been suspected to be advanced. Here we use a 35-SNP-marker test, designed to assess hybridisation between wildcat and domestic cat populations in Scotland, to assess a database of 265 wild-living and captive cat samples, and test the assumptions of the test using 3097 SNP markers generated independently in a subset of the data using ddRAD. We discovered that despite increased genetic resolution provided by these methods, wild-living cats in Scotland show a complete genetic continuum or hybrid swarm structure when judged against reference data. The historical population of wildcats, although hybridised, clearly groups at one end of this continuum, as does the captive population of wildcats. The interpretation of pelage scores against nuclear genetic data continues to be problematic. This is probably because of a breakdown in linkage disequilibrium between wildcat pelage genes as the two populations have become increasingly mixed, meaning that pelage score or SNP score alone are poor diagnostic predictors of hybrid status. Until better tools become available, both should be used jointly, where possible, when making management decisions about individual cats. We recommend that the conservation community in Scotland must now define clearly what measures are to be used to diagnose a wildcat in the wild in Scotland, if future conservation action is to be effective.
