CSV files and R script: writing process data of typed picture description by 15 cognitively impaired patients and 15 healthy controls

Writing process data of 15 cognitively impaired patients and 15 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were obtained. Each of them completed two typed picture description tasks that were logged with Inputlog, a keystroke logging tool. Variables included time on task; number of characters, pauses and Pause-bursts per minute; proportion of pause time; duration of Pause-bursts; and pause time between words. For pause time between words, also the effect of pauses preceeding specific word categories was analyzed.

The data were used to explore if the observation of writing behavior can assist in the screening and follow-up of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This data set contains the CSV files that were used for the analyses and the corresponding R script.

Performance of different augmented writing tools on german job ads

This dataset was created as part of an empirical analysis of four German-language augmented writing technologies for detecting gender exclusion. For this purpose, approximately 160,000 job postings from three different platforms were collected and evaluated using the technologies. The dataset primarily contains the number of expressions extracted per job posting, as well as the gender scores and categories calculated by the technologies. Together with variable descriptions and the list of keywords used to sample the leading positions, this dataset serves as additional information for a manuscript under review.

Extract from the PEAPL framework : Modelling "Writing sentences" competency (French as the schooling language)

The Secret Life of Writing: People, Script and Ideas in the Iberian Peninsula

Abstract:

As a rule, only those medieval manuscripts that were of interest for the powerful have been preserved. Extant codices were cherished throughout centuries as tangible signs of cultural pre-eminence and carriers of the sacred word; charters were kept as custodians of patrimony and witness to the history of institutions, proclaiming the reasons why monasteries and cathedrals should be revered. But against this rule, other manuscripts that did not directly serve the purposes of high-status minorities were created and are still around. Codices that, belonging to an ecclesiastical rite that was suppressed, should not survive today, but were kept as guardians of tradition. Charters that, intermingled with royal diplomas, have survived without an apparent reason for they do not relate to privileges granted. These sources show us a different side of medieval society in which non-powerful individuals outside central institutions played a crucial role in understanding the implications of written communication, shaping their social memory and that of their past by fully integrating writing in their lives.

The project “The Secret Life of Writing: People, Script and Ideas in the Iberian Peninsula (c. 900-1200)” (https://peopleandwriting.wordpress.com/) aims at exploring this common people-writing pairing to uncover what writing meant for lay communities, how it modelled their daily life, and how the use of writing individualised people within their group. From the interdisciplinary study of these sources that defy the rule, our project proposes a novel method combining approaches from Manuscript Studies to Anthropology to, based upon the graphical, textual, and historical analysis of the sources, reveal the hidden history of the people who wrote, signed, read, and kept handwritten material. Moreover, by focusing on a hitherto unmapped corpus of manuscripts from the Iberian Peninsula, which will be made openly available to the general public, the project aims to integrate Iberia in the recently opened general debate on Medieval Communication, exploring new avenues of research on Written Culture.

Video of presentation given at the 13th Annual (Virtual) Schoenberg Symposium on Manuscript Studies in the Digital Age below and also at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF1AoGbVudI&ab_channel=SchoenbergInstitute

Research Scholars Workshop: Writing a Research Proposal

This session is ideal for students who need to write a research proposal, whether it is for an application seeking internal or external support for their research, securing a faculty supervisor, or for a course-based research experience like a research-based independent study or a capstone course. In the first half of the session, best practices will be presented along with a template to follow. In the second half of the session, we will allow time to address more specific questions and to put some of the best practices into action, with the help and support of experts in research and communication.

Transcripts of expert interviews with writing center directors in the USA in 2012

This document contains transcripts of interviews with 16 writing center directors in different writing centers in the USA, conducted in 2012. The overall research question for the interviews was how writing center directors deal with challenges in writing center work and how they conduct institutional work for their writing centers.

The interviews belong to the habilitation thesis “Strategien für die Institutionalisierung von Schreibzentren an Hochschulen. Eine qualitative Analyse der Institutionalisierungsarbeit von Leitungspersonen in Schreibzentren“, as proposed to the Fakultätsrat der Kultur-, Sozial- und Bildungswissenschaftlichen Fakultät of the Humboldt University Berlin, April 1st 2016. The study has been accepted as habilitation by the Fakultätsrat at February 15th 2017.

The results of the study will be published as open access publication (e-book) and in print by W.Bertelsmann Verlag (wbv) Bielefeld in October 2017. The study contains a description of demographic details and other details of the interviews and explains the methodology, which clarifies why the interview transcripts eventually change to part-transcriptions due to theoretical saturation.

WRITING BEYOND BORDERS: A FEMINIST READING OF THREE FEMALE BUDDING FACEBOOK POETS.

Abstract
The world is evolving at a phenomenal rate due to the growth of technology. It
is so pertinent that if you are not evolving with the technology, you will become
moribund with time. Literature has equally evolved and adapted to the
different technological growth. This paper purposively selects three female
Facebook poets (Inyang Edoho, Udeme Mbossoh, and Titilayo Adeoye) and
examines two poems from each poet. Using both the feminist theory and the
reader-response theory in the analysis of the selected poems, this paper
discovers that Facebook is a veritable platform to express one's opinion, belief,
and ideas without fear of religion, society, or gender. Poetry is a high art of
literary expression. It distinguishes the poet as a creative writer and gives
him/her the space to not only interact but also gets constructive criticism from
the readers and serve as a muse to other creative writers. This interaction with
critics and a source of inspiration for other creative writers will act as a drive
for the poet to develop and improve on his/her creative art.
