Diberyllocene: xyz-coordinates of optimized structures
<p>The complex diberyllocene, CpBeBeCp (Cp = cyclopentadienyl anion), has been the subject of numerous chemical investigations over the past five decades, yet has eluded experimental characterization. Here we report preparation and isolation of the compound by the reduction of beryllocene (BeCp<span>2) </span>with a dimeric magnesium(I) complex and determination of its structure in the solid state by x-ray crystallography. Diberyllocene acts as a reductant in reactions that form beryllium bonds to aluminum or zinc. Quantum chemical calculations indicate parallels between the electronic structure of diberyllocene and the simple homodiatomic species diberyllium (Be<span>2).</span></p>

XYZ coordinates of middle lumbar vertebrae - 3D GM analysis for: A nearly complete lower back of Australopithecus sediba
<p>Adaptations of the lower back to bipedalism are frequently discussed but infrequently demonstrated in early fossil hominins. Newly discovered lumbar vertebrae contribute to a near-complete lower back of Malapa Hominin 2 (MH2), offering additional insights into posture and locomotion in <i>Australopithecus sediba</i>. We show that MH2 demonstrates a lower back consistent with lumbar lordosis and other adaptations to bipedalism, including an increase in the width of intervertebral articular facets from the upper to lower lumbar column ("pyramidal configuration"). These results contrast with some recent work on lordosis in fossil hominins, where MH2 was argued to demonstrate no appreciable lordosis ("hypolordosis") similar to Neandertals. Our three-dimensional geometric morphometric (3D GM) analyses show that MH2's nearly complete middle lumbar vertebra is human-like in overall shape but its vertebral body is somewhat intermediate in shape between modern humans and great apes. Additionally, it bears long, cranially and ventrally oriented costal (transverse) processes, implying powerful trunk musculature. We interpret this combination of features to indicate that <i>A. sediba</i> used its lower back in both bipedal and ape-like arboreal positional behaviors, as previously suggested based on multiple lines of evidence from other parts of the skeleton and reconstructed paleobiology of <i>A. sediba</i>.</p>
DFT Calculated xyz in Support of "Computational Modelling and Mechanistic Insight into Light-driven CO Dissociation of square-planar Rh(I) Complexes"
<p>The C-H activation of alkanes mediated by electron-rich metal complexes, such as Rh(I) complexes, has drawn considerable attention in recent decades. In order to interact with the C-H bond, most Rh complexes, such as <em>trans-</em>Rh(PMe3)2(CO)(Cl) need to be activated through irradiation, which leads to the photocleavage of the Rh-CO bond and the formation of the active species Rh(PMe3)2(Cl). To elucidate the details of the photochemistry of <em>trans-</em>Rh(PMe3)2(CO)(Cl), we here present a computationally derived picture as obtained at the density functional level of theory (DFT) in combination with multireference wavefunction-based methods. We have identified that the photocleavage of CO proceeds via the metal-centered excited state, which is populated through intersystem crossing (ISC) from the dipole-allowed excited state S1. Moreover, the present study unraveled the reasons for the low C-H activation efficiency when using Rh featuring the bidentate ligand 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane (dmpe), namely due to its unfavorable photochemical properties, i.e., the small driving force for light-induced CO loss and the fast deactivation of 3MC state back to the singlet ground state. In this study, we provide theoretical insight into mechanistic details underlying the light-induced CO dissociation process, for Rh complexes featuring PMe3 and dmpe ligands.</p>
