Dataset of bank soil parameters and stochastic modelling of bank erosion processes in the Middle Yangtze River

<p><span>A probabilistic process-based model of bank erosion has proposed,&nbsp;</span><span>embedding the probability distributions of</span><span> different bank soil parameters. <span><span>&nbsp;The dataset includes the spatial distribution characteristics of critical shear stress, friction angle, and cohesion. The prediction results analyzed the effects of soil erosion resistance capacity and the variability of shear strength parameters in the simulation of bank erosion processes, obtaining the probability of mass failure and the distributions of bank erosion width. Additionally, the study investigated the effect of varying water content on bank erosion modeling and further analyzed how considering more influencing factors in the model affects prediction uncertainty and accuracy. Moreover, the relationship between the variability of these factors and river morphology was discussed. The dataset provides the aforementioned prediction results, and relevant plots were generated using MATLAB or Python, with the associated plotting code also uploaded.</span></span></span></p>

Evaluations on numerical simulations of ozone dry deposition over the Yangtze River Delta

<p>Regional simulation of ozone dry deposition is an important tool for understanding ozone pollution threats and quantifying the ozone impact on terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, we evaluate ozone dry deposition in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region using two different dry deposition schemes. The WRF-Chem model, Wesely dry deposition scheme, and revised Surfatm dry deposition scheme were used to simulate the ozone dry deposition process in the YRD region, and results are compared with the observation over a winter wheat field. The results show that the simulated ozone concentrations (<em>c</em><sub>O3</sub>) of the two dry deposition schemes were good and lower than the measurements. The simulated ozone dry deposition velocity (<em>V</em><sub>d</sub>) in the Surfatm dry deposition scheme was more close to the measurements. The mean value of <em>c</em><sub>O3 </sub>and <em>V</em><sub>d</sub> in the YRD region ranged from 30 to 50 nL&middot;L<sup>&minus;1</sup> and from 0.2 to 0.5 cm&middot;s<sup>&minus;1 </sup>in the daytime, respectively. To improve the simulation results of the ozone dry deposition process, the simulation errors due to different land use types, the meteorological factors on dry deposition resistance functions, and the influence of chemical reactions must all be considered.</p>

Data from: Benthic community history in the Changjiang (Yangtze River) mega delta: Damming, urbanization, and environmental control

Coastal environment of the Changjiang delta has been influenced by recent anthropogenic activities such as dam constructions, and increased sewage and fertilizer inputs. Previous work examined compositional shift of marine plankton to assess ecological impacts of these activities on marine ecosystems in the Changjiang discharge area. Here we used benthic marine ostracodes collected in the Changjiang Estuary and its adjacent East China Sea in the 1980s and the 2010s, respectively, to investigate temporal changes of the benthic community and the controlling factors of the benthic fauna. Our results revealed more shoreward distribution of some well-known off-shore ostracode species in the 2010s compared to the 1980s, and relatively more important role of environmental processes (e.g. bottom water temperature, bottom water salinity and the eutrophic conditions of surface water) than spatial processes (e.g. the flow of ocean currents) in structuring ostracode compositions. The temporal changes of ostracode community were likely attributed to the combined effects of reduced seasonal water and sediment discharge, and eutrophic conditions of the Changjiang due to numerous dam constructions along the Changjiang and population expansion in the Changjiang basin. Results of redundancy analysis and variation partitioning suggested that ocean currents facilitated environmental filtering of ostracode species such that they could disperse to preferred environmental conditions. These findings highlighted the potential uses of marine microfossils to better understand ecological impacts on benthic ecosystem in vulnerable Asian mega deltas and provided insights into the integration of metacommunity concepts in disentangling dynamics of marine benthic communities.
