Theta and alpha power across fast and slow timescales in cognitive control
<p>This dataset contains the raw EEG data collected in a study investigating the neural signatures of extensive training. Specifically, 30 subjects performed a simple stimulus-action association task in which they learned to respond with one out of two key presses to a stimulus presented on screen. In each block, four different stimuli were presented, meaning that half of the stimuli was associated with a right response (press 'j') and the other half was associated with a left response (press 'f'). To investigate distinct timescale, stimuli repeated both within experimental blocks (each stimulus 8 times), and one set of stimuli repeated across experimental blocks (8/16 blocks contained the same four stimuli).</p> <p>This dataset contains the raw EEG data collected using a BioSemi 64 channel setup. Also, six external electrodes were used to measure eye activity (left and right mastoid; lateral canthi of both eyes; above and below left eye). The electrodes were placed using the 10-20 system, and this system contained a posterior CMS-DLR electrode combination.</p> <p><strong>The SUBID.npy files contain the behavioral data</strong> of the experiment phase (512 trials; i.e. exercise phase data is not included).<strong>The SUBID.bdf files contain EEG data</strong> of the experiment phase (512 trials; no data was collected during the exercise phase). Finally, the files titled "<strong>theta_alpha_beta_behavioural</strong>" are used in the analysis and plotting scripts (see GitHub).</p>
HETDEX Public Source Catalog 1: 220 K Sources including over 50K Lyman Alpha Emitters From an Untargeted Wide-area Spectroscopic Survey
<p>We present the first publicly released catalog of sources obtained from the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX). HETDEX is an integral field spectroscopic survey designed to measure the Hubble expansion parameter and angular diameter distance at 1.88 < z < 3.52 by using the spatial distribution of more than a million Lyα-emitting galaxies over a total target area of 540 deg2. The catalog comes from contiguous fiber spectra coverage of 25 deg2 of sky from January 2017 through June 2020, where object detection is performed through two complementary detection methods: one designed to search for line emission and the other a search for continuum emission. The HETDEX public release catalog is dominated by emission-line galaxies and includes 51,863 Lyα-emitting galaxy (LAE) identifications and 123,891 [O II]-emitting galaxies at z < 0.5. Also included in the catalog are 37,916 stars, 5,274 low-redshift (z < 0.5) galaxies without emission lines, and 4,976 active galactic nuclei. The catalog provides sky coordinates, redshifts, line identifications, classification information, line fluxes, [O II] and Lyα line luminosities where applicable, and spectra for all identified sources processed by the HETDEX detection pipeline. Extensive testing demonstrates that HETDEX redshifts agree to within ∆z < 0.02, 96.1% of the time to those in external spectroscopic catalogs. We measure the photometric counterpart fraction in deep ancillary Hyper Suprime-Cam imaging and find that only 55.5% of the LAE sample has an r-band continuum counterpart down to a limiting magnitude of r ∼ 26.2 mag (AB) indicating that an LAE search of similar sensitivity with photometric pre-selection would miss nearly half of the HETDEX LAE catalog sample.<br> <br> Two catalogs make up HETDEX Source Catalog 1:<br> <br> 1. DMS measurements dataset for manuscript "Classification of Volatile Organic Compounds by Differential Mobility Spectrometry Based on Continuity of Alpha Curves"
<p>Differential mobility spectrometry dispersion plots collected for the manuscrit "Classification of Volatile Organic Compounds by Differential Mobility Spectrometry Based on Continuity of Alpha Curves". The measurement files are located in the folders that represent certain week and day of measurement. The folders containing measurements are named with the following pattern: [chemical abbreviation]_[dilution rate]. For example "2PEtOH_1o10k" means that the folder contains measurement of 2-phenylethanol diluted with propylene glycol in volumetric proportion 1/10 000. Another example is "nBuOH_1o100" - n-Butanol diluted with propylene glycol in volumetric proportion 1/100. Please find the abbreviations in the article referred.</p> <p>For the first five weeks only 1/100 dilutions were measured. The last two weeks (weeks 6 and 7) 1/10 000 dilutions were measured. However, Carvone 1/100 was measured again on week 6 due to suspicion of faulty measurements during the previous weeks. The faulty measurements were not confirmed, and thus there 25 more samples of Carvone with dilution rate 1/100.</p>
Alaska Peatland Experiment: 2010 Alpha Root Biomass data taken during peak biomass (late July)
This dataset includes root biomass data taken at peak biomass during the 2010 growing season. Data was collected at the Alaskan Peatland Experiment Alpha site. Root biomass was collected for the root respiration experiment conducted at the control plot of the Alpha site. The root respiration experiment was used to partition root respiration from ecosystem respiration at the control plot.

<p>A set of electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) data files for a model Zircaloy-4 with 7 wt.% Nb addition alloy following hot-rolling. </p> <p>The 2D data set contains EBSD maps recording the microstructure and texture evolution, from a beta-processed (and annealed) starting condition, following rolling at a temperature of 725C to 50% and 75% reduction. Lyman-alpha Transmission Curves
<p>We provide a large set of Lyman-alpha transmission curves around star-forming halos above <span class="math-tex">\(5\cdot 10^9 \textrm{M}_\odot\)</span>in the IllustrisTNG100 simulation at redshifts 0.0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0. The transmission curves are provided as optical depth <span class="math-tex">\(\tau\)</span> as a function of injected wavelength offset <span class="math-tex">\(\Delta\lambda = \lambda - \lambda_\mathrm{Lya}\)</span>evaluated at the source's systemic redshift with integration starting at <span class="math-tex">\(r=1.5\cdot r_\mathrm{vir}\)</span> We provide the transmission curves along 6 lines of sight roughly aligned with the basis vectors of the Cartesian coordinate system. Further information is made available in a referencing publication that will be linked here.</p> <p>The catalog itself is provided as hdf5 file with the following structure: On the base level, the data set "los_vectors" contains the direction vectors of the 6 lines of sight and the data set "dlambda_bins" provides the wavelength offsets which we evaluate the optical depths at. Most importantly, the transmission curves are provided in the group "tau" in which we provide separate data sets for each simulated redshift. These data sets are three dimensional with the first dimension indexing the line of sight, the second dimension the wavelength bin and the third dimension the targeted halo. For further study, we also provide the IllustrisTNG100 halo identifiers in the group "haloIDs", which again are provided as separate data set for each redshift. </p> <p>Note that an extended data set is available upon request, with 1000 lines of sight per emitter drawn from an equally spaced Fibonacci sphere, which could not be provided here due to the file size.</p>

The data catalog for Metallicity and alpha-abundance for 48 million stars in low-extinction regions in the Milky Way
<p>Stellar chemistry contains information on the environment in which the star was born. Therefore, measuring the chemical abundances of stars in the Milky Way, such as the overall metallicity [M/H] and the alpha-abundance [alpha/M], is essential in Galactic astronomy.</p> <p>We estimate ([M/H], [alpha/M]) for giants and dwarfs in low dust extinction region from the Gaia DR3 XP spectra by using tree-based machine-learning models trained on APOGEE DR17 (Abdurro’uf et al. 2022) and the metal-poor star sample of Li et al. (2022).</p> <p>Here, we upload the catalogues of ([M/H], [alpha/M]) for 182 million stars. The data are divided into 10 fits files. The i-th file (i=1,2,...,10) contains stars with E(B-V) value between 0.1*(i-1) and 0.1*i. Because our machine-learning models are trained on stars with low dust extinction (E(B-V)<0.1), we recommend using 48 million stars with low-dust extinction region with 0<E(B-V)<0.1 (table_light_mh_am_0p0ebv0p1.fits). Alpha-synuclein overexpression can drive microbiome dysbiosis in mice
<p>Growing evidence indicates that persons living with Parkinson disease (PD), have a unique composition of indigenous gut microbes. Given the long prodromal or pre-diagnosed period, longitudinal studies of the human and rodent gut microbiome prior to symptomatic onset and for the duration of the disease period are currently lacking. PD is characterized in part by accumulation of the protein α-synuclein (α-syn) into insoluble aggregates, in both the central and enteric nervous systems. As such, a number of experimental rodent and non-human primate models of α-syn overexpression recapitulate some of hallmark pathophysiologies of PD. These animal models provide an opportunity to assess how the gut microbiome changes with age under disease relevant conditions. Here, we used a transgenic mouse strain, the Thy1-hSYN “line 61” mice which over express wild-type human α-syn to test how the gut microbiome composition responds in this model of PD pathology during aging. Using shotgun metagenomics, we find significant, age and genotype dependent bacterial taxa that become altered over age. We reveal that α-syn overexpression can drive alterations to the gut microbiome composition and suggest that it limits the expansion of diversity through age. Given emerging data on potential contributions of the gut microbiome to PD pathologies, our data provide an experimental foundation to understand how the PD-associated microbiome may arise as a trigger or co-pathology to disease.</p>

EBSD Dataset of the Alpha and Beta Phase Orientations for Hot-rolled Ti-6Al-4V
<p>This is an EBSD dataset for hot-rolled Ti-6Al-4V alloy. It includes the EBSD maps of the starting material, and materials have been rolled at nine different temperatures (825°C, 865°C, 895°C, 915°C, 935°C, 950°C, 960°C, 975°C, 1020°C) to three reductions (50%, 75%, and 87.5%). Each rolled material was sampled from transverse direction (TD) and rolling direction (RD) and EBSD maps were taken from both directions. Materials rolled at 825°C and 915°C were further rolled to 94% reduction and EBSD maps were taken from TD. The information of each EBSD data is given in the metadata file in each folder.</p> <p>For materials rolled above 915°C, the beta phase was reconstructed with a software based on Burger's orientation relationship.</p> <p>The Matlab script for plotting EBSD maps, pole figures and ODFs can be downloaded <a href="https://zenodo.org/record/8328717">here</a>.</p>
Real-time observation of alpha nucleation in Ti-6Al-4V
<p>This video was captured during an in-situ heating stage SEM experiment using a secondary electron camera at the University of Manchester, UK. The Ti-6Al-4V sample was heated to 1000°C to the full β-phase field and then slowly cooled (0.3°C/s) through the β transus, and the α-phase nucleation was recorded by the contrast change in the secondary electron camera from topography development on the sample surface due to surface relief. Microscope operated by Dr Alec E Davis and Dr Jack Donoghue, sample preparation by Nick Byres. Mesophotic coral ecosystems of French Polynesia are hotspots of alpha and beta generic diversity for scleractinian assemblages
<p>Revealing how diversity varies across the depth gradient is key to understanding the role of mesophotic coral ecosystems in the functioning of coral reefs. We examined how alpha and beta generic diversity of scleractinian coral assemblages vary across a wide depth gradient for coral reefs. We studied generic diversity patterns of scleractinian corals at sixteen sites in eight islands of three archipelagos in French Polynesia, as derived from the analysis of photo-quadrats, across the seafloor from shallow to lower mesophotic depths (6 to 120 m) and on a wide geographic scale. Our sampling considered quantitative coral cover to explore the patterns of alpha and beta components of diversity across depth and horizontal space. We show that in French Polynesia, mesophotic coral ecosystems host higher alpha and beta generic diversity than shallow reefs despite decreasing coral cover with depth. The variation of coral genus richness across the depth gradient is mainly driven by a mid-domain effect with a peak at 40 m depth. At the same time, we found that the turnover of coral genera across islands (i.e., spatial beta diversity) increased steadily along the depth gradient. Our findings report the first quantitative results of coral cover and diversity from mesophotic coral ecosystems in French Polynesia and also present one of the few existing studies to examine the broad breadth of the mesophotic depth gradient. We demonstrate that mesophotic depths can host unexpectedly high generic richness of scleractinian coral assemblages. At the same time, we showed that increasing depth increases the differences in generic diversity composition across islands, whereas shallow reefs are similar in between. While a single island could conserve shallow regional biodiversity, mesophotic depths containing the richest diversity require site-specific measures, suggesting that considering these mesophotic depths in conservation is necessary to maintain regional diversity.</p>
