Supporting data for: Emissions background, climate, and season determine the impacts of past and future pandemic lockdowns on atmospheric composition and climate

COVID-19 pandemic responses affected atmospheric composition and climate. These effects are historically contingent, depending on the background emissions, climate, and season in which they occur. We used the GISS ModelE Earth System Model to evaluate how atmospheric and climate impacts depend on the decade and season in which lockdowns occurred. Data underlying the figures and analysis are provided as Python numpy arrays as a courtesy for peer reviewers. These data are annual means of diagnostic variables from ModelE.

Temporal and spatial variability of the stable isotopic composition of atmospheric molecular hydrogen: observations at six EUROHYDROS stations

These are the H2 mixing ratio and deuterium content data used in:
Batenburg, A. M., Walter, S., Pieterse, G., Levin, I., Schmidt, M., Jordan, A., Hammer, S., Yver, C., and Röckmann, T.: Temporal and spatial variability of the stable isotopic composition of atmospheric molecular hydrogen: observations at six EUROHYDROS stations, Atmos. Chem. Phys., 11, 6985-6999, doi:10.5194/acp-11-6985-2011, 2011,http://www.atmos-chem-phys.net/11/6985/2011/acp-11-6985-2011.html

Please cite this ACP article when using these data in a publication, and kindly notify the first author (annekebatenburg'at'gmail.com).

In the CSV files:
- Mixing ratios are reduction gas analyzer results obtained at UHEI-IUP, MPI-BGC and LSCE.
- dD(H2) data are obtained from analysis with the GC-IRMS system at the IMAU-APCG lab of Utrecht University. The estimated standard deviation/error in a single measurement is 4.5 permil, based on measurements of a laboratory working tank.
- Outlier selection was based on visual inspection of the time series.
- The "biased" or "downshifted" flag indicates dD measurements performed in a period where the dD results seemed to have a positive bias of approximately 9.5 permil. These samples were shown in the time series figure with the 9.5 permil subtracted, but excluded from the following quantitative analyses.
- The last column indicates the number of succesfull repeat measurements of dD.

More information can be found in the published, open-access article. Global simulations of multi-frequency HF signal absorption for direct observation of middle atmosphere temperature and composition

The model used in the publication for Global simulations of multi-frequency HF signal absorption for direct observation of middle atmosphere temperature and composition

This paper presents the first numerical study on a new concept for the direct measurement of D-region absorption in the HF band. Numerical simulations based on the Appleton–Hartree and Garrett equations of refractive index are presented. Electron temperature as a result of HF radio pumping of the ionosphere is included in the calculations using proper numerical formulation. Both O- and X-mode radio wave polarizations are taken into consideration. A global map of HF absorption in the northern hemisphere is calculated. Detailed calculations of HF radio wave absorption as it propagates through the lower atmosphere are presented. The effect of several parameters on the amount of absorption is calculated. The best frequencies to be used for the purpose of this study are discussed. A machine learning model is developed and the capability of the model in estimation of D and E-region constituents includes $N_2$, $O$, $O_2$, as well as $T$ and $N_e$ is examined. Such a technique can also lead to global mapping of HF absorption and improve OTHR (over-the-horizon-radar) performance.

Atmospheric Composition Ammonia Volume Mixing Ratio L3 (AIRSAC3MNH3 V3) from AIRS/AMSU on NASA Aqua at GES DISC
The mass concentration ammonia in the atmosphere, consists of products generated for the study of atmospheric ammonia. Atmospheric ammonia is an important component of the global nitrogen cycle. In the troposphere, ammonia reacts rapidly with acids such as sulfuric and nitric to form fine particulate matter. These ammonium containing aerosols affect Earth's radiative balance, both directly by scattering incoming radiation and indirectly as cloud condensation nuclei. Major sources of atmospheric ammonia involve agricultural activities including animal husbandry, especially concentrated animal feeding operations and fertilizer use. Major sinks of atmospheric ammonia involve dry deposition and wet removal by precipitation, as well as conversion to particulate ammonium by reaction with acids. Measurements of ambient NH3 are sparse, but satellites provide a means to monitor atmospheric composition globally. Using the AIRS/AMSU satellite this algorithm provides monthly measurements of derived atmospheric NH3 for September 2002 through August 2016.
