Poisson models for publications, leadership and recognition awards in the American Academy of Neurology

We sought to study sex with respect to publications, leadership and recognition awards in the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in light of recent research highlighting inequities in these domains.

Methods: We examined medical school graduation, neurology residency (using American Medical Association and the American Council for Graduate Medical Education), membership in the AAN, first and last authorship in Neurology, membership on AAN committees, and AAN recognition awards, by sex, in 1997, 2007, 2017.

Results: Female medical students were less likely to enter neurology residency in 1997 only. In 2007 and 2017, there was no proportionate difference between men and women as last author, a surrogate for senior member of the author panel. In 2017, women were proportionately more likely to be first authors than men, a surrogate for principal investigator of the study. Committee membership was less for women in 1997 and 2007 (P <0.001) but was not proportionately different in 2017 (P=0.534). Women were proportionately more likely to receive recognition awards in all years studied (1997 p=0.008, 2007 p<0.001. 2017 p <0.001) although absolute numbers of women were less.

Conclusions: Female membership, leadership (through committee membership), publications as last author were less in 1997 in the AAN. These same metrics demonstrated substantial proportionate changes, with no differences in last author in 2007 and 2017, greater likelihood for women to be first author in 2017, no differences in committee membership in 2017 and greater likelihood of receiving awards determined by merit in all three years.

Supplement to zenodo doi 10.5281/zenodo.8122347 Data Archive for the NASA DAILI CubeSatMission:NASA Award Number: 80NSSC18K0973

In the zenodo archive 10.5281/zenodo.8122347 the idl save sets include an array, raw_image, that had no actual data. The save-sets here fill that array with the actual data. These images are the actual images obtained with each DAILI exposure. In the original DAILI archive the portions of each exposure needed for retrieval of the science parameters were correctly included. Hence, the arrays here are just for completeness although they do document the dark counts between the regions where light is admitted.

Efficacy of bracing in early infantile scoliosis: a 5-year prospective cohort shows that idiopathic respond better than secondary-2021 SOSORT award winner

Dataset from the paper: Efficacy of bracing in early infantile scoliosis: a 5-year prospective cohort shows that idiopathic respond better than secondary-2021 SOSORT award winner. Eur Spine J. 2021 Dec;30(12):3498-3508. doi: 10.1007/s00586-021-06889-y. Epub 2021 Jun 6. PMID: 34091763.

Abstract

Purpose: In conservative early onset scoliosis treatment, interest in bracing is growing because repeated general anaesthesia (required by casting) has been questioned for possible brain damages. We aimed to check the results in the medium term of bracing, comparing idiopathic (IIS) to secondary (SIS) infantile scoliosis.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study in a consecutive prospective cohort. Inclusion criteria were: discovery of scoliosis and bracing below age 3; exclusion criteria: previous spine surgery, less than three consultations. We considered the following results: full (< 20° Cobb) and partial (< 30°) success; hold-up (progression < 5° but curve > 29°); partial (progression > 5°) and full (fusion) failure; statistics: ANOVA for repeated measures; linear mixed effect model with Cobb angle (dependent), time and diagnosis (independent) variables.

Results: We included 34 infants (16 IIS and 18 SIS) of age 1·10 ± 0·10 (years·months), 44 ± 17° curves, 27 ± 10° rib vertebral angle difference, average observation 5·05 ± 3·03 years. We found progressive improvement of IIS and stability of SIS patients. Six IIS (37.5%) and one SIS (6%) reached brace weaning before puberty with 13 ± 5° (improvement 61 ± 15%, p < 0.001), after 4·11 ± 3·07 years of treatment. Three patients were fused, one IIS (6%) and two SIS (11%). Two IIS patients also reached end-of-growth with 18° (start 40° at 1·03 years) and 20° (start 32° at 2·12 years), respectively.

Conclusion: Bracing shows promising results in the medium term for high-degree IIS, with very few hold-ups (19%) and failures (12%). Conversely, failures prevail for SIS (full 11%), even if the partial failure (39%) is still a time-buying strategy.

Goya Award Statue

This is the statue that is given as award in the Goya's Awards ceremony to the best Spanish Films. The statue is a bust of Goya, one of the most important painters in Spanish History. This year the ceremony has been celebrated in my city and 12 scaled statues were placed in different places of Valencia, so I had the chance to scan one of them. I used Scaniverse Photogrammetry mode, in less than a minute I had a fantastic result with great texture alignment. Lastly, I fixed some parts of the mesh and texture in Blender. MTV Video Music Award (Moonman)

The MTV Video Music Award (commonly abbreviated as a VMA) is an award presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in the music video medium. Originally conceived as an alternative to the Grammy Awards (in the video category) By 2001, the VMA had become a coveted award. The statue given to winners is an astronaut on the moon, one of the earliest representations of MTV, and colloquially called a "moonman". The statue was conceived by Manhattan Design — also designers of the original MTV logo. The statue is now made by New York firm, Society Awards. Since the 2006 ceremony, viewers have been able to vote for their favorite videos in all general categories by visiting MTV's website. The first VMA ceremony was held in 1984 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. The ceremonies are normally held in either New York City or Los Angeles. However, the ceremonies have also been hosted in Miami and Las Vegas. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
