Model parameter time series of the Business Roadmap for sustainable development of the Mar Menor and surrounding Campo de Cartagena
<p>The Business Roadmap and Policy Recommendations (BRM) represents 14 solutions for sustainable development of the Mar Menor and surrounding Campo de Cartagena that were developed during an extensive co-design process (workshops, expert interviews, online questionnaires) with representatives from all relevant sectors involved. A full description of the BRM, its co-development, and the modelled impacts on Key Performance Indicators of sustainability can be found in<a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7142764"> Martínez-López et al (2022)</a>.</p> <p>The model parameter time-series in this dataset indicate if and when a solution is turned on or off between 1964 and 2070 based on preferences indicated by stakeholders. These time-series represent input parameters for the System Dynamics model of the socio-ecosystem of the Mar Menor-campo de Cartagena developed in the COASTAL project and that is used to quantify impacts on key performance indicators of sustainability. This System Dynamics based model, developed by Martínez-López et al (2022) can be consulted <a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7142764">here</a>.</p> <p>The Business Road Map and Policy Recommendations (BRM) consists of the following 4 milestones and related 14 solutions:</p> <p>(I) <strong>Rural ecotourism</strong>:</p> <p>1. The promotion of rural ecotourism activities.</p> <p>(II) <strong>Coastal ecotourism</strong>:</p> <p>2. The promotion of coastal ecotourism activities.</p> <p>(III) <strong>Sustainable agriculture</strong>:</p> <p>3. Implementation of nutrients, soil, and water retention measures</p> <p>4. Reduction in fertilizer use</p> <p>5. Denitrification of brine wastes from groundwater treated for irrigation</p> <p>6. Decrease in agricultural water demand per hectare (i.e. 10% of decrease by default in the model)</p> <p>(IV) <strong>Integrated sustainable management</strong>:</p> <p>7. Control of the extension of irrigated areas</p> <p>8. Promotion of environmental education</p> <p>9. Cloud computing is one of the most popular and sophisticated technologies adopted by organizations worldwide. Some world-leading organizations enhance their efficiency and effectiveness by using cloud computing technology. Working from home (WFH) has been a popular trend among organizations during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The COVID-19 saw a breakthrough in work cultures and environments where working from home was a remarkable success in remote working environments, despite being a rare phenomenon in Sri Lanka. Yet, it is argued that the deployment of work from home has not been effective among Sri Lankan business organizations due to a lack of IT infrastructure, facilities, and knowledge. The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of cloud computing, embracing the service models (Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service) as theoretical lenses and testing the COVID-19 as the moderator. The study has been conducted based on a deductive approach and adopted a stratified random sampling method. The sample consisted of 384 IT employees among those who had experienced working from home. The study utilized multiple regression and found that cloud computing service models significantly impact work from home with the moderating effect of COVID-19.

Survey - Business Model Innovations in the Digital Publishing Industry: A Question of reluctance to innovate?
<p>News Publishers today struggle with their business model: their efforts to convert their traditional business into digital products have generally proven to be futile. In order to explore a possible reluctance to innovate in the digital news publishing industry, in our study we are focusing on the Digital News Initiative (DNI) which is a partnership between Google and news publishers across Europe to support high-quality journalism through technology and foster innovation. Founded in 2015, the DNI has already funded over 460 projects across Europe with €94m. In our study we will deep dive into these projects by categorizing the type of innovation in a simple document analysis. Afterwards we will conduct a explorative survey with publishers. This will help us finding out whether they also dealt with a reluctance to innovate within their organization, what the main obstacles have been during their innovation process and how they have overcome them. The explorative results are not only valid for publishers but can also be transferred to other industries whose products and services are affected by digitalization.</p> <p>Anonymus survey with 31 full answers from publishers in the DACH Region conducted with LimeSurvey in March 2018.</p>

Data from: Examining the business case and models for sustainable multifunctional edible landscaping enterprises in the Phoenix Metro Area
This study assesses whether multifunctional edible landscaping business models provide a sufficient business case at enterprise and city scales to justify widespread implementation. First, semi-structured interviews were conducted with four landscaping entrepreneurs, and the information obtained from the interviews was utilized to carry out a business model comparison with the Business Model Canvas framework. The comparison showed that the landscaping enterprises using multifunctional edible landscaping methods possessed a greater range of value propositions and revenue streams, enhancing their competitive advantage. Second, a GIS landscape analysis of seven Phoenix metro area cities was carried out to identify landscapes that were suited for becoming multifunctional edible landscapes. The GIS analysis identified single family residential, residential recreational open space, municipal parks, and municipal schools as being suitable landscapes, and that the area of these landscapes in the seven cities exceeded 180,000 acres. Third, scenarios were created using interview and GIS data to estimate potential value creation and return on investment of implementing multifunctional edible landscaping in the cities of interest. The scenarios found that the potential value creation of edible landscaping ranged between $3.9 and $66 billion, and that positive return on investment (ROI) could be achieved in 11 out of 12 scenarios within one to five years. Finally, the paper concludes by discussing potential long-term implications of implementing multifunctional edible urban landscaping, as well as possible future directions for multifunctional landscaping business model development and research.

<p><strong>Data underlying research paper “Developing an open data intermediation business model: insights from the case of Esri” </strong></p> <p>by Ashraf Shaharudin, Bastiaan van Loenen, and Marijn Janssen from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Netherlands.</p> <p>This folder contains data underlying the research paper “Developing an open data intermediation business model: insights from the case of Esri”. It consists of:</p> <p>1. De-identified interview transcripts</p> <p>2. Informed consent form template</p> <p><strong>Note about the de-identified interview transcripts:</strong></p> <p>The de-identified interview transcripts should be read in the context of the research on open data ecosystem and the role of Esri as open data intermediaries.</p> <p>The 27 interviews, involving 29 interviewees, were conducted between April 2023 and April 2024 based on the semi-structured approach. We shared the tentative interview questions with the interviewees in advance (for the majority, at least three working days prior). Since they are semi-structured interviews, the ultimate interview questions may differ from the tentative questions.</p> <p>We removed personally identifiable information from the transcripts. Some interviewees may risk being identifiable if their organization is known. Hence, we removed the organization and country information from all transcripts. </p> <p>With verbal communication, some sentences may be less incomprehensible in writing. Thus, we did minimal edits when transcribing to improve the comprehensibility where necessary, but the main objective was to keep the transcripts as close to verbatim as possible. </p> <p><strong>Note about the informed consent form template:</strong></p> <p>We sent the informed consent form to every interviewee in advance and requested that they return it to us before or during the interview. </p> <p>All interviewees whose interview transcripts are recorded in this document give permission for the anonymized transcript of their interview, with personally identifiable information redacted, to be shared in 4TU.ResearchData repository so it can be used for future research and learning.</p> <p><strong>Acknowledgement:</strong></p> <p>This research is part of the 'Towards a Sustainable Open Data ECOsystem' (ODECO) project. <p>Despite the "Business Model Canvas" (BMC) monikor, this diagram presents sustainability-model elements related to a not-for-profit International Data Space focused on open access book usage data exchange. This diagram was inspired by an initial 2021 draft version created by Murphy et al (<a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6227423" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6227423</a>) and includes information known in 2023 by OA Book Usage Data Trust project team members.
