Validated CFD Model for Multimode Gasoline Compression Ignition Engine

<p>A validated CFD model&nbsp;for the multimode combustion engine developed under the DOE funded project DE-EE0008478 (Co-optimized Mixed-Mode Engine and Fuel Demonstrator for Improved Fuel Economy while Meeting Emissions Requirements). It incorporates&nbsp;advanced physics-based fuel surrogate models for thermophysical properties and reaction kinetics. The combustion modes include&nbsp;spark ignition (SI), low temperature combustion (LTC), and compression ignition (CI). The real fuel model was validated for RON60, RON70, RON80, RON90, and two biofuel blends. The validation cases can be found in <a href="https://doi.org/10.2172/1887341">https://doi.org/10.2172/1887341</a>.&nbsp;</p>

Data from: Study on the optimization of the deposition rate of planetary GaN-MOCVD films based on CFD simulation and the corresponding surface model

Metal-organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) is a key technique for fabricating GaN thin film structures for light-emitting and semiconductor laser diodes. Film uniformity is an important index to measure equipment performance and chip processes. This paper introduces a method to improve the quality of thin films by optimizing the rotation speed of different substrates of a model consisting of a planetary with seven 6-inch wafers for the planetary GaN-MOCVD. A numerical solution to the transient state at low pressure is obtained using computational fluid dynamics. To evaluate the role of the different zone speeds on the growth uniformity, single factor analysis is introduced. The results show that the growth rate and uniformity are strongly related to the rotational speed. Next, a response surface model was constructed by using the variables and the corresponding simulation results. The optimized combination of the matching of different speeds is also proposed as a useful reference for applications in industry, obtained by a response surface model and genetic algorithm with a balance between the growth rate and the growth uniformity. This method can save time, and the optimization can obtain the most uniform and highest thin film quality.

WisdomWombat: A polyglot dataflow CFD code using Python and Dragon

<p>We present a prototype solution for a polyglot computational fluid dynamics code using the Python Multiprocessing API and Dragon. The code uses an actor-based dataflow architecture with a directed graph to explicitly express program execution including parallelization and asynchronous communication. Computation-heavy parts are covered with individual Fortran executables, the shared state description is written in C with Fortran and Cython wrappers. Our code demonstrates data flow programming in Python for a classical tightly coupled HPC problem, combining cloud-native programming paradigms with HPC communication techniques like RDMA through the Dragon runtime. We demonstrate how a scalable software architecture for classical HPC, AI/ML and HPC workflow applications could look like in the future.</p>

The influence of flow electrode channel design on flow capacitive deionization performance: Experimental and CFD modelling insights

<p>Flow capacitive deionization (FCDI) is an emerging desalination technology at which flow electrodes (shearthinning<br>flowable carbon slurries) are used to remove ions from saline water. The geometry of flow electrode<br>channels, which provide the path and ensure the distribution and mixing of the flow electrodes, is one of the most<br>important aspects to be optimized. This work presents experimental and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)<br>modelling analysis of the influence of the geometry of flow electrode channels on FCDI performance. Flow<br>electrode gaskets (with open, serpentine (short) horizontal and serpentine (long) vertical channels) were 3D<br>printed using a polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PET-G) filament. The FCDI cell with a vertical serpentine flow<br>electrode channel exhibited the poorest performance due to channel blockage by carbon particles, while the best<br>results were achieved with a horizontal serpentine flow electrode channel. CFD simulations aided in understanding<br>this behaviour by showing that the channel geometry strongly affects the local shear rate, and thus the<br>local viscosity of flow electrodes. Thus, it is recommended to design channels that induce flow disturbance<br>aiming for increasing the shear rate and hence reducing flow electrode viscosity, therefore promoting their<br>flowability and reducing clogging chances.</p>

CFD Simulation Dataset for Airborne Pathogen Transmission in Turbulent Channels

<p>This dataset contains results from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations conducted using <strong>Ansys</strong> to model airborne pathogen transmission in turbulent airflow channels. The simulations focus on the dispersion of pathogen-laden droplets and aerosols, mimicking scenarios such as coughing-induced flows. The data includes the reception statistics of airborne particles, which are used to derive the infection probability. The dataset supports the studygiven below and can be used for statistical characterization and further analysis of airborne pathogen transmission between two people.</p> <p>F. Gulec, F.
