Chemical analysis dataset for contaminants of emerging concern and bioanalytical data for samples from a low mountain stream in Central Germany

<p>In 2022, river-water samples were collected at six sampling sites along the Holtemme River in Central Germany using large-volume solid phase extraction. The extracts were analysed by target chemical analysis for contaminants of emerging concern. In addition, the extracts were analysed in a bioanalytical test battery using effect-based tools. The battery included assays for cytotoxicity (neutral red retention assay), oxidative stress (Nrf2-CALUX&reg;), endocrine disruption (ER-, AR-, anti-ER-, anti-AR-, GR- and PR-CALUX&reg;) and the fish embryotoxicity test with zebrafish (<em>Danio rerio</em>). The data obtained are included in the .csv files in this repository.</p>

<p>In the framework of Articles 23 and 33 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 EFSA has received from the European Commission a mandate (<a href="http://registerofquestions.efsa.europa.eu/roqFrontend/mandateLoader?mandate=M-2010-0374">M-2010-0374</a>)&nbsp;to collect all available data on the occurrence of chemical contaminants in food and feed. These data are used in EFSA&rsquo;s scientific opinions and reports on contaminants in food and feed.</p> <p>This data providers package provides the data collection configuration and supporting materials for reporting&nbsp;<strong>Chemical Contaminants in SSD2</strong>. These are to be used for the&nbsp;official data reporting phase.</p> <p>The package includes:</p> <p>CHECK advice on the values to be reported for the mandatory fields specified for this data collection.</p> <p>The Standard Sample Description Version 2&nbsp;XSD schema definition for CONTAMINANTS reporting.</p> <p>The STX transformation file which automatically assigns sampEventId and sampAnId when this information is not provided.</p> <p>The general and CONTAMINANTS SSD2 specific business rules applied for the automatic validation of the submitted datasets.</p> <p>Excel Mapping tool to convert excel files after mapping into XML document.</p> <p>Guidance on how to use the Excel Mapping tool.</p> <p>Guidance on how to run the validation report after submitting data to the DCF.</p>

IscoKin database of rate constants for reaction of organic contaminants with the major oxidants relevant to In Situ Chemical Oxidation

<p>Database of second-order rate constants for aqueous phase reaction of organic contaminants with the major oxidants involved in groundwater remediation by In Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)&mdash;including&nbsp;permanganate, hydroxyl radical (from activated peroxide), and sulfate radical (from activated persulfate)&mdash;plus other comparable oxidants of environmental interest (carbonate radical, chlorine dioxide, and ozone).</p> <p>The data were compiled between 2003 and 2005 by Rachel Waldemer, Jaimie Powell, and other students under the direction of Professor Paul G. Tratnyek at the Oregon Graduate Institute in Beaverton, Oregon, USA. In 2006, a script written by Kaylie Langley was used to make the data available online via an interface that allowed searching by chemical name, CAS-RN, etc. The result was named the &ldquo;IscoKin&rdquo; database and was available at http://cgr.ebs.ogi.edu/iscokin/search.php until the server was retired in 2019.</p> <p>In place of IscoKin, we have made all of the data available as a spreadsheet in .xlsx format. The file includes two sheets, the first contains one &ldquo;recommended&rdquo; rate constant for each combination of organic compound and oxidant (i.e., one row per compound). The second sheet contains all of the individual rate constants that were compiled (i.e., one row per experimental result).</p> <p>The &quot;best&quot; value is most often an average of the individual values listed in the &quot;All_values_with_references&quot; sheet; but occasionally this value represents a single value, usually the &quot;best&quot; value given in Buxton et al. (1988) &ldquo;Critical review of rate constants for reactions of hydrated electrons. hydrogen atoms and hydroxyl radicals (&bull;OH/&bull;O-) in aqueous solution&rdquo; J. Phys. Chem. Ref. Data. 17, 513-886.</p> <p>While the database was checked thoroughly, it still is unlikely to be completely accurate or complete. For critical applications, we recommend tracking down the primary sources (listed in the spreadsheet) and use them for data, conditions, and other caveats. Results from national testing programs on the occurrence of chemical contaminants in food and feed - Switzerland

<p>In the framework of Articles 23 and 33 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 EFSA has received from the European Commission a mandate (M-2010-0374) to collect all available data on the occurrence of chemical contaminants in food and feed. Data from: Effect of chemical additives on electrokinetic remediation of Cr-contaminated soil coupled with a permeable reactive barrier

Chromium(Cr) contamination in soil, especially Cr(VI) has a serious threat to the environment and human health. The electrokinetic remediation (EKR) is a promising technology to remediate the Cr(VI). Therefore, EKR coupled with a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) was used to treat the Cr(VI) contaminated soil in this study. The CTMAB-Z, a modified zeolite (prepared by cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide) alone and a mixture of CTMAB-Z and Fe(0) were used as PRB-1 and PRB-2 reactive media, respectively. The effect of chemical enhancers/additives i.e. dl-tartaric acid and tween 80 on EKR of Cr(VI) was also analysed in the contrasting experiments. While, the effects of repair time, voltage gradient and dl-tartaric acid concentration on Cr(VI) remediation were investigated by utilizing multifactor orthogonal experiment which was based on contrasting experiments. The contrasting experiment results showed that the highest Cr(VI) removal rate(66.27%) and leaching efficiency(71.29%) were observed in the experimental group which had dl-tartaric acid and PRB-2. Furthermore, the multifactor orthogonal experiment results had depicted that the highest Cr(VI) removal rate(80.92%) and leaching efficiency(85.25%) were achieved after treating the samples at a voltage gradient of 2.5 v/cm for 8 days in presence of 0.15 M concentration of dl-tartaric acid. This study demonstrated that Cr(VI) remediation through EKR process could be significantly enhanced by the use of PRB and additives.
