Figure 3 in Fishers' perceptions of river resources: case study of French Guiana native populations using contextual cognitive mapping

Figure 3. – Overview of the cognitive maps of fishers' statements. "Fish resource and environment" received 8 edges (incoming arrows), of which 7 were threats, in 4 broad categories: gold mining, demographic, preservation, and fishing practices. The width of each edge is pro- portional to the number of cognitive maps where this statement appears. Zero label (for example in the [0, -1] between "Number of villagers" and "Fish resource") means that there is no influence between the two concepts, while an empty one ([,-3] between "Fish migration" and "Fish resource") means that nobody talked about it.

Figure 1 in Fishers' perceptions of river resources: case study of French Guiana native populations using contextual cognitive mapping

Figure 1. – Left: French Guiana, on the northern Atlantic coast of South America, is located between Brazil to the east and south, and Suriname to the west. Right: Locations of the villages (excluding Maripasoula City) where fishers were interviewed.

Figure 5 in Fishers' perceptions of river resources: case study of French Guiana native populations using contextual cognitive mapping

Figure 5. – Cognitive maps of threats of gold mining to the fish resource and environment. Several individuals provided a detailed causal chain, while others focused on broad impacts.

Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage systems analysis through cognitive mapping - elicitation process

Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) projects are complex systems due to their multistakeholder and multisectoral nature. Therefore, We consider it crucial to propose a holistic approach to evaluate CCUS systems by using participatory processes to capture the complexity between technical, environmental and social structures interaction. We can achieve this by building cognitive maps, which represent people's knowledge and perceptions of CCUS projects.

In CCUS systems, we deal with complex problems involving many parties and conditions without a unique or suitable solution for projects implementation. Albeit many components interact in the projects, we can select the most representative to represent the system. This research seeks to collect various cognitive maps from different stakeholders, which will be integrated later to analyse how physical-technical components interact with socio-political ones.
