Concrete habitat: Impervious surface in nest vicinity is associated with avian fitness decline in two urban adapters
<p>The conversion of natural habitats to impervious surfaces in cities affects biotic and abiotic attributes of urban ecosystems. Detailed information on the gradual influence of impervious surfaces on reproductive success, however, is lacking. Using five years of nestbox-breeding great tit and blue tit breeding data collected across various habitat types within and outside a Central-Eastern European capital city, we quantified the impact of impervious surfaces on avian reproductive success. Impervious surfaces strongly and negatively covaried with the number of fledged young in both species: a 50% increase in impervious surface resulted in 2.93 (95% CI: -4.27; -1.58) fewer blue tit offspring fledging the nest, and 3.51 (95% CI: -4.79; -2.23) fewer great tit offspring fledging the nest, thus halving the reproductive output of two widespread urban species. These results provide benchmark values of avian productivity for ecologists and urban policy makers, and for the management of urban areas.</p>

<p>Supplementary data for the paper: “Enhancing concrete durability in chloride-rich environments through manual application of healing agents”.<br><br>Open data concerning experimental work. The paperinvestigates the use of three potential healing agents: water-repellent agent (WRA), sodium silicate (SS), and polyurethane (PU). The agents are tested separately under two conditions: exposure to a 3.3% NaCl concentration at 20°C and exposure to cyclic freeze-thaw conditions. The agents are manually injected into the cracks and evaluated for their healing efficiency using the capillary absorption test and microscopy analysis. Additionally, their resistance to freeze-thaw cycles by monitoring mass loss and chloride bulk diffusion is measured using sprayed silver nitrate, titration, and EDX mapping. </p>
Selected properties and microstructure of concrete with tire rubber granulate as recycled material in construction industry
<p><span>The paper explores the use of recycled materials in the construction industry to promote sustainable development. There is a growing demand for recycling and innovative materials in engineering. The study specifically investigates the potential of tire rubber recyclate as a recycled raw material, comparing two different mixtures in an experimental program. These mixtures highlight the importance of utilizing local resources, aligning with the principles of the circular economy. The experimental program focuses on evaluation of mechanical properties in addition to specialized tests. Findings indicate that higher proportions of rubber granulate not only impact mechanical properties but also significantly affect durability when exposed to environmental factors. </span></p>
Dataset for Temperature Development in Ultra-High-Performance Concrete-Filled Double-Skin Tubes Exposed to Fire
<p>This dataset presents extensive experimental data available in the literature for concrete-filled tubes (CFT) and ductile concrete-filled double-skin tubes (CFDST) exposed to fire. Different concrete grades, including normal strength (NS), high strength (HS), and ultra-high-strength (UHS) concrete, were tested, and the temperature developments within various cross-sections are provided in the supplementary data. The density, specific heat, and conductivity that are temperature-dependent, are documented by different researchers and current specifications. The preferred models are provided for carbon-steel, stainless-steel, and different grades of concrete. Numerical studies such as those conducted by the authors in a companion paper would find value in this data for validation and verification purposes</p>
Database of concrete heat of hydration parameters for concrete mixes used in piling (Grant reference EP/R511547/1)
<p>The heat of hydration parameters correspond to the model proposed by Liu et al. (2022). Parameters for five different concrete mixes are provided. They were obtained through finite element back analysis of the response of piles in the field assuming 1D axisymmetric conditions. Details of each of the concrete mixes and the thermal properties employed for soil and concrete in the FE analyses are provided. </p>

<p>This data set was collected during the construction phase of the openLAB in Bautzen, Germany during the period from 22.01.2024 - 30.04.2024. It includes acceleration measurements and temperature measurements that record the dynamic behavior of the bridge over a period of 49 days (from 22.01.2024 to 11.03.2024; the remaining data cannot be uploaded due to the Zenodo upload restriction, but can be released on request). The detailed documentation of the data set can be found in the file "Bartels, Dunkel, Marx_2024_Documentation.pdf". The documentation describes the structure, the applied monitoring system and the collected data in detail.</p>

The paper presents the benefits of introducing a bacteria-based healing agent in concrete to enable self-healing, assessed under frost salt scaling conditions. Durability tests such as scaling, water permeability and chloride ingress were performed. In addition, a microstructural analysis based on mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), fluorescence microscopy, thin section analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy was performed. </p> <p> </p>
