Daily load patterns of six global exchanges as recorded by vwd/Infront Financial Technology
<p>This data set provides fine-granular statistics on trading traffic generated by six global exchanges over the course of two days in February 2019 for a set of representative feeds and recorded by the systems of vwd Vereinigte Wirtschaftsdienste GmbH (now known as Infront Financial Technology GmbH).</p> <p>Please note that these numbers represent only limited market segments of the actual exchange and the measured feeds might provide different products and instrument types.</p> <p>The exchanges are identified as AU = Sydney, FFM = Frankfurt am Main (GER), HK = Hong Kong (CN), Q = NASDAQ (USA), TK = Tokyo (JPN), UK = London (UK).</p> <p>The data set consists of six (6) files in comma-separated values (CSV) format with one tab as separator.</p> <p>Each file contains a list of timestamped (GMT+1) statistics that represent the update rate per second averaged to the granularity of one minute as received from the respective exchange at each point in time. Microhabitat use, daily activity pattern and diet of Liolaemus etheridgei in the Andean Polylepis forests of Arequipa, Peru
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>This study describes the microhabitat use, daily activity pattern and diet of</span><span> </span><em><span>Liolaemus etheridgei</span></em><span> </span><span>Laurent 1998 in</span><span> the</span><span> El Simbral and Tuctumpaya</span><span> </span><em><span>Polylepis</span></em><span> </span><span>forests in Arequipa, Peru. El Simbral is a fragmented forest, whereas Tuctumpaya is unfragmented.</span><span> O</span><span>ur results reveal that</span><span> </span><em><span>L. etheridgei</span></em><span> </span><span>shows no positive selection for any of the microhabitats we identified in</span><span> </span><em><span>Polylepis</span></em><span> </span><span>forests; on the contrary, it selects negatively against</span><span> </span><em><span>Polylepis</span></em><span> </span><span>trees and non-thorny bushes. The daily activity patterns indicate a bimodal pattern with peaks at 9:00-10:59 and 13:00-13:59 h. The diet of</span><span> </span><em><span>L. etheridgei</span></em><span> </span><span>consists mainly of plant material, and the most important animal prey category is Lygaeidae: Hemiptera, which is selected</span><span> for</span><span> positively. In particular, microhabitat selection varied </span><span>for</span><span> non-thorny bushes, which were selected negatively in the Tuctumpaya population but neither positively nor negatively in the El Simbral population. According to the proportions of plant material found, the</span><span> </span><em><span>L. etheridgei</span></em><span> </span><span>from El Simbral w</span><span>ere</span><span> found to be omnivorous, whereas the Tuctumpaya population </span><span>was</span><span>herbivorous. However, </span><span>the percentage of </span><span>plant material</span><span> consumed in the El Simbral</span><span> </span><span>population was</span><span> close to the critical value for herbivory-omnivory. We conclude that the three ecological aspects</span><span> of </span><em><span>L. etheridgei</span></em><span> studied </span><span>here </span><span>are virtually identica</span><span>l</span><span> </span><span>in</span><span> El Simbral and Tuctumpaya; therefore, </span><span>this species is not </span><span>affected significantly by the </span><span>current</span><span> fragmentation</span><span> of forest</span><span>.</span></p>
Data from: Seasonal variation in daily patterns of social contacts in the European badger Meles meles
Social interactions among hosts influence the persistence and spread of infectious pathogens. Daily and seasonal variation in the frequency and type of social interactions will play an important role in disease epidemiology and, alongside other factors, may have an influence on wider disease dynamics by causing seasonal forcing of infection, especially if the seasonal variation experienced by a population is considerable. We explored temporal variation in within-group contacts in a high-density population of European badgers Meles meles naturally infected with Mycobacterium bovis (the causative agent of bovine tuberculosis). Summer contacts were more likely and of longer duration during the daytime, while the frequency and duration of winter contacts did not differ between day and night. In spring and autumn, within-group contacts peaked at dawn and dusk, corresponding with when they were of shortest duration with reduced potential for aerosol transmission of pathogens. Summer and winter could be critical for transmission of M. bovis in badgers, due to the high frequency and duration of contacts during resting periods, and we discuss the links between this result and empirical disease data. This study reveals clear seasonality in daily patterns of contact frequency and duration in species living in stable social groups, suggesting that changes in social contacts could drive seasonal forcing of infection in wildlife populations even when the number of individuals interacting remains similar.
Seasonal and daily movement patterns of an alpine passerine suggest high flexibility in relation to environmental conditions
<p>Mountains naturally offer variable habitat conditions, but their biodiversity is currently facing the extra challenge of adapting to rapid environmental shifts that are much more pronounced than in the lowlands. Among adaptive responses, intra- and inter-seasonal movements represent potentially important coping strategies for wildlife that remain largely unexplored. We investigated the seasonal and daily movements of the ring ouzel <em>Turdus torquatus</em>, a European mountain bird species that is declining in many parts of its distribution. We tracked individuals breeding in the Swiss Alps using light-level geolocators and multi-sensor loggers. Of the birds traced to their non-breeding grounds, two thirds reached the Atlas Mountains while one third stayed in Spain, a region potentially more significant for overwintering than previously thought. The birds remained mostly above 1000 m throughout the annual cycle, highlighting a strict association of ring ouzels with mountain habitats. We also evidenced flexible daily elevational movements, especially upon spring arrival on the breeding grounds in relation to date and snowfall occurrence, suggesting adaptive potential in response to environmental variation. This study shows how modern technology can deliver deeper and valuable insights into movements, behavioural patterns, and life-history strategies for relatively little-studied animal species. By doing so, it paves the way for refined assessments of species' vulnerability to ongoing global change while providing basic conservation guidance.</p>
