Structure and dynamics of plasma irregularities over the equatorial ionospheric region: A study using spaced receiver technique employing geostationary satellites' radio signals-Data set
<p>The study investigates the characteristic features of the ionospheric irregularities using spaced receiver technique. In the spaced receiver technique, we have used a trio of receivers separated by 40 and 100 m from each other. These receivers monitor scintillations patterns of the L1 signals transmitted by the geostationary satellites. The cross-correlation of the signals and the power spectral analysis yields the measure of characteristic features of the irregularities. The data folder contains the S4 index, drift velocity of the irregularities, powerspectral slopes and size of the irregularities observed on four days. The folder also contains the gnuscript used for plotting. </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>

Bottom up Ethics - Neuroenhancement in Education and Employment
<p>This is the accompanying dataset for the publication Bottom-up Ethics - Neuroenhancement in Education and Employment (https://doi.org/10.1007/s12152-018-9366-7). The data was collected during the European Commision-funded NERRI project, which sought to facilitate Europe-wide discussion about the ethical acceptability and social desirability of neuroenhancement. We conducted an online survey with over 1000 respondents from 10 European countries and the United States. The survey included two contrastive vignette experiments and 14 attitude questions, which were derived from a series of public engagement activities.</p> <p>The SPSS dataset contains 50 variables, capturing sociodemographic indicators, the experimental manipulations, the 14 attitude statements, and two scales constructed using PCA.</p> <p>Paper abstract:</p> <p>Neuroenhancement involves the use of neurotechnologies to improve cognitive, affective or behavioural functioning, where these are not judged to be clinically impaired. Questions about enhancement have become one of the key topics of neuroethics over the past decade. The current study draws on in-depth public engagement activities in ten European countries giving a bottom-up perspective on the ethics and desirability of enhancement. This informed the design of an online contrastive vignette experiment that was administered to representative samples of 1000 respondents in the ten countries and the United States. The experiment investigated how the gender of the protagonist, his or her level of performance, the efficacy of the enhancer and the mode of enhancement affected support for neuroenhancement in both educational and employment contexts. Of these, higher efficacy and lower performance were found to increase willingness to support enhancement. A series of commonly articulated claims about the individual and societal dimensions of neuroenhancement were derived from the public engagement activities. Underlying these claims, multivariate analysis identified two social values. The Societal/Protective highlights counter normative consequences and opposes the use of enhancers. The Individual/Proactionary highlights opportunities and supports use. For most respondents these values are not mutually exclusive. This suggests that for many neuroenhancement is viewed simultaneously as a source of both promise and concern.</p>

WORK-LIFE BALANCE OF THE EMPLOYED POPULATION DURING THE EMERGENCY SITUATION OF COVID-19 IN LATVIA
<p>All the employees face the challenge of finding the right work-life balance. The ability of employees to deal with the successful combining of work, family responsibilities, and personal life is crucial for both employers and family members of employees. During the COVID-19 emergency situation, many people around the world were forced to work remotely. Initially, there were observed some certain expectations about the possibility of working from home as a positive factor that will promote work-life balance. However, over time, negative tendencies were also revealed, as employees were only one call or message away from the employer, and uncertainty and leisure time with family often created more stress. As many organizations and individuals were not ready for this sudden change, many mistakes were made, which further raised the issue of work-life balance. The aim of the research was to evaluate the flexibility of reconciling work and private life of Latvian employees in various socio-demographic groups during the COVID-19 emergency situation in spring 2020, to investigate how family life influenced employees’ ability to perform work duties, to find out if employees had any additional housework responsibilities and how their workload changed concerning housework amount during the COVID-19 emergency situation. The research is based on the data obtained in the survey of the Latvian employed population, which was conducted within the framework of the Latvian National Research Programme Project “CoLife” in the second half of 2020. As a result, the hypothesis of the research that all groups of employees experienced work-life balance difficulties during the COVID-19 emergency situation has been partially confirmed, i.e. women in the 18-44 age group and respondents with minor children in the household more likely faced difficulties of work-life balance. The scientific research methods that were used in the research are the monographic method, content analysis, survey, data processing with SPSS to determine the mutual independence of the data from the questionnaires. </p>
