Hygrothermal performance of ventilated attics in Nordic climate, field study 2021-2022
<p>The dataset contains measured data from a field stufy. The study was performed during years 2021 and 2022 in the test buildings of Tampere University. The measured data contains: 1. Temperature and relative humidity values inside six ventilated attics at 10-minutes intervals 2. Values of carbon dioxide content during air change rate measurements, which were done using carbon dioxide as a tracer gas. </p>

A FIELD STUDY ON THERMAL INSULATION PERFORMANCE OF GREEN ROOF FOR BUILDINGS IN HOT DRY CLIMATE OF ZARIA, NIGERIA
<p>Although the practice of employing the use of green roof for thermal insulation is gaining a wideranging acceptance across the globe, its use in Nigeria and the sub Saharan Africa has remained unpopular. Study has shown that, although a vast literature on different approaches in the application of green roof system exists, there is substantial misrepresentation of inferences regarding its applications in Nigeria. The purpose of the study therefore, is to assess the thermal performance of green roof in facilitating thermal insulation for building interiors of hot dry climate in Nigeria. The study is carried out through an empirical field observation in the premises of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria. Two miniature live models were built and covered with galvanised iron roofing sheets on timber trusses; one of which was covered with green roof, while the other was left bare. This is with the view to determine the rate of thermal insulation a green roof system can offer over the bare roof in the building interiors of the study area. Using the experimental approach in green roof investigation, a data logging system was installed in the two thermal zones and readings of the temperature profile was taken. The results showed that; a reduction of 2.08°C in indoor air temperature was obtained on the diurnal ranges, while 19.78% of temperature fluctuation was achieved. Generally, the result showed that higher temperature ranges were recorded in the bare roofed case than the green roof. The maximum, mean and minimum record for the bare roof was 45.20°C, 32.03°C and 21.10°C respectively; while the recorded values for the green roof were 41.90°C, 29.95°C, and 21.00°C respectively. This implies that, the presence of vegetation on the green roofed case has offered a degree of thermal insulation required to achieve better passive cooling in order to attain thermal comfort in the interiors of the study area.</p>

University of Kansas Field Station: Forest demography, 1980 – 2015. On ten study plots established on three management units all live trees with a dbh > 7.5 cm (3 in) were identified to species, measured, and tagged. Trees were initially measured in 1980/1981 and re-measured in three successive time periods: 1993/95; 2002/03; and 2014/15. Trees will be measured again in 2025/26.
In 1980 researchers at the University of Kansas initiated a long-term experiment monitoring the composition of oak-hickory forest communities at the University’s field station near Lawrence, Kansas. The purpose of the study was to determine how forest species composition varied temporally across distinct habitats that varied in topography, elevation, sun exposure, management history and successional stage. Ten permanent sites were sampled approximately each decade with data collection periods of 1980/81, 1993/95, 2002/03, and 2014/15. Trees with a minimum diameter at breast height (dbh) of ≥ 7.5 cm were tagged, identified to species and measured. Trees will be measured again in 2025/26.
Comparative Study of Data-driven Solar Coronal Field Models Using a Flux Emergence Simulation as a Ground-truth Data Set
<p>For a better understanding of magnetic field in the solar corona and dynamic activities such as flares and coronal mass ejections, it is crucial to measure the time-evolving coronal field and accurately estimate the magnetic energy. Recently, a new modeling technique called the data-driven coronal field model, in which the time evolution of magnetic field is driven by a sequence of photospheric magnetic and velocity field maps, has been developed and revealed the dynamics of flare-productive active regions. Here we report on the first qualitative and quantitative assessment of different data-driven models using a magnetic flux emergence simulation as a ground-truth (GT) data set. We compare the GT field with those reconstructed from the GT photospheric field by four data-driven algorithms. It is found that, at least, the flux rope structure is reproduced in all coronal field models. Quantitatively, however, the results show a certain degree of model dependence. In most cases, the magnetic energies and relative magnetic helicity are comparable to or at most twice of the GT values. The reproduced flux ropes have a sigmoidal shape (consistent with GT) of various sizes, a vertically-standing magnetic torus, or a packed structure with curled field lines. The observed discrepancies can be attributed to the highly non-force-free input photospheric field, from which the coronal field is reconstructed, and to the modeling constraints such as the treatment of background atmosphere, the bottom boundary setting, and the spatial resolution.</p>
