Data from: Dental status of New Caledonian children: is there a need for a new oral health promotion programme?
Background: Before implementing a new oral health promotion program in the French overseas territory of Nouvelle Calédonie, the health authorities needed recent data about dental status of the New Caledonian child population. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the dental status of 6, 9 and 12-yr-old New Caledonian children and to investigate the environmental and behavioural risk factors related to oral health. Methods: A randomly selected sample of 2734 children (744 6-yr-olds, 789 9-yr-olds, and 1201 12-yr-olds) was examined clinically by seven calibrated investigators and participants responded to a questionnaire. The main variables were objective criteria about dental status and subjective criteria about experience of dental care, dental fear, self-perception of oral health, cultural or ethnic identity and environmental and behavioural risk factors. Results: Overall, most of the children had infectious oral diseases: more than 50% had gingivitis, and 60% of 6- and 9 yr-olds had at least one deciduous or permanent tooth with untreated caries. The mean 12-yr-old number of decayed missing and filled teeth (DMFT) was 2.09±2.82. The number of carious lesions was related to the unfavourable lifestyle, deprived social status and no preventive dental care. Kanak, Polynesians and Caledonians (respectively 27%, 18% and 45% of the study sample) were more affected by caries than metropolitan French and Asian children. Children with many untreated carious lesions had negative perceptions of their oral health; they complained of chewing difficulty and had higher scores for dental anxiety. Conclusion: This study highlights the need for new strategies aimed at improving oral health and at reducing inequalities in New Caledonia. An oral health promotion program would need to be developed in connection with other health programmes using the common risk factor approach within the context of the local environment.
AI4PROFHEALTH - Profession-health status co-occurrence graph statistics
<p>This dataset contains the Pointwise Mutual Information (PMI) values for co-occurrence pairs between different mention categories extracted from two distinct clinical datasets: <strong>MESINESP2</strong> and the <strong>Clinical Case Reports Collection</strong>. PMI is a statistical measure used to assess the strength of association between pairs of entities by comparing their observed co-occurrence to the expected frequency under the assumption of independence.</p> <p>The datasets include PMI values for each co-occurrence pair, derived from the association of professions and clinical concepts, with the aim of identifying potential occupational health risks. By sharing these datasets, we aim to support further research into the relationships between professions and clinical entities, enabling the development of more accurate and targeted occupational health risk models.</p> <p>There is a separate file for each corpus, and each dataset is provided in <strong>CSV format</strong> for easy access and analysis. Effect of dietary Chlorella vulgaris and carbohydrate-active enzymes on the general health, immune status, antioxidant capacity, and liver lipids and metabolites of weaned piglets
<p>It was evaluated the impact of dietary inclusion of <em>Chlorella vulgaris </em>(CH) and carbohydrases on the general health, immune and oxidative status, and hepatic lipids and metabolites of piglets. Forty-four male weaned piglets were allocated into four diets: control (<em>n</em>=11), CH (control diet with 5% CH, <em>n</em>=10), CH+R (control diet with 5% CH plus 0.005% Rovabio<sup>®</sup>Excel AP, <em>n</em>=10), and CH+M (control diet with 5% CH plus 0.01% of a pre-selected four-CAZyme mixture, <em>n</em>=11) for 15 days. Total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and VLDL-cholesterol were increased by CH. In piglets fed CH<em>-</em>based diets, the interplay observed between IgG increase and IgM decrease contributed for piglets’ survival during weaning. <em>n</em>-6 PUFA were lower in piglets fed CH with or without feed enzymes and the inverse occurred for <em>n</em>-3 PUFA, thus benefiting <em>n</em>-6/<em>n</em>-3 ratio in the liver. The discriminant analysis applied to hepatic variables revealed a good separation between control and CH-based diets but failed to discriminate feed enzymes addition. Minor variations were promoted by Rovabio or the pre-selected enzymatic mixture, thus suggesting some improvement on microalga nutrients digestibility. Taken together, our findings indicate a health promoting effect of CH as feed ingredient in piglets’ nutrition during the weaning period, without negatively impacting on animals’ performance.</p> <p> </p>
Data from: Mental health status of Sri Lanka Navy personnel three years after end of combat operations: a follow up study
The main aim of this study was to assess the mental health status of the Navy Special Forces and regular forces three and a half years after the end of combat operations in mid 2009, and compare it with the findings in 2009. This cross sectional study was carried out in the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), three and a half years after the end of combat operations. Representative samples of SLN Special Forces and regular forces deployed in combat areas were selected using simple random sampling. Only personnel who had served continuously in combat areas during the one year period prior to the end of combat operations were included in the study. The sample consisted of 220 Special Forces and 275 regular forces personnel. Compared to regular forces a significantly higher number of Special Forces personnel had experienced potentially traumatic events. Compared to the period immediately after end of combat operations, in the Special Forces, prevalence of psychological distress and fatigue showed a marginal increase while hazardous drinking and multiple physical symptoms showed a marginal decrease. In the regular forces, the prevalence of psychological distress, fatigue and multiple somatic symptoms declined and prevalence of hazardous drinking increased from 16.5% to 25.7%. During the same period prevalence of smoking doubled in both Special Forces and regular forces. Prevalence of PTSD reduced from 1.9% in Special Forces to 0.9% and in the regular forces from 2.07% to 1.1%. Three and a half years after the end of combat operations mental health problems have declined among SLN regular forces while there was no significant change among Special Forces. Hazardous drinking among regular forces and smoking among both Special Forces and regular forces have increased.

Data for: Optimizing health and nutrition status of migrant construction workers consuming multiple micronutrient fortified rice in Singapore
<p class="MsoNormal">140 Male migrant workers aged 20–51 years of either Bangladeshi or Indian ethnicity from a single dormitory in Singapore volunteered to participate in the study. In total, 133 blood samples were taken at the start of the study and were used to assess vitamin B12, hemoglobin, ferritin, folate, and zinc status; a sub-sample underwent for homocysteine testing. Anthropometric measurements and vital signs, including height, weight, and blood pressure were recorded before and after the intervention.</p>
