Polar Visible Imaging System (VIS) Earth Camera Images, Calibrated (E0), 4 min Data

Instrument Functional Description: The VIS Instrument is a Set of three Low Light Level Cameras. Two of these Cameras share primary and some secondary Optics and are designed to provide Images of the Nighttime Auroral Oval at Visible Wavelengths. A Third Camera is used to monitor the Directions of the Fields-of-View of the Auroral Cameras with respect to the sunlit Earth and return Global Images of the Auroral Oval at Ultraviolet Wavelengths. The VIS Instrumentation produces an Auroral Image of 256 × 256 Pixels approximately every 24 s dependent on the Integration Time and Filter selected. The Fields-of-View of the two Nighttime Auroral Cameras are 5.6 × 6.3° and 2.8 × 3.3° for the Low and Medium Resolution Cameras, respectively. The Medium Resolution Camera was never activated. One or more Earth Camera Images of 256 × 256 Pixels are produced every 5 min, depending on the commanded Mode. The Field-of-View of the Earth Camera is approximately 20 × 20°. TRMM Microwave Imager Calibrated Radiances L1B 1.5 hours V7 (TRMM_1B11) at GES DISC

This dataset contains TRMM Micrwave Imager (TMI) L1B calibrated radiances in terms of Brightness Temperatures. The TMI calibration algorithm (1B11) converts the radiometer counts to antenna temperatures by applying a linear relationship of the form Ta = c1 + c2 x count. The coefficients are provided by the instrument contractor. Antenna temperatures are corrected for cross-polarization and spill over to produce brightness temperatures (Tb), but no antenna beam pattern correction or sample to pixel averaging are performed. Temperatures are provided at 104 scan positions for the low frequency channels and 208 scan positions at 85 GHz. There are four samples per pixel (3 -dB beamwidth) at 10 GHz, two samples at 19, 22, and 37 GHz, and one sample per pixel for the 85 GHz. Data Flow Description Changes in horizontal resolution resulting from the TRMM boost that occurred on 24 August 2001: Pre-Boost (before 7 August 2001): Temporal Resolution: 91.5 min/orbit ~ 16 orbits/day; Swath Width: 760 km; Horizontal Resolution: 4.4 km Post-Boost (after 24 August 2001): Temporal Resolution: 92.5 min/orbit ~ 16 orbits/day; Swath Width: 878 km; Horizontal Resolution: 5.1 km

STARDUST NAVCAM RAW PREFLIGHT CALIBRATION IMAGES V2.0

This dataset contains the raw, preflight, thermal-vacuum calibration images collected by the Navigation Camera (NAVCAM) on 8-10 April 1998 for the Stardust mission. This is version 2.0 of the dataset, in which the original image data were converted from the standard PDS IMG format to the FITS format; no corrections were applied. The NExT mission to comet 9P/Tempel 1 used some of these preflight data to check the exposure time offsets due to shutter reversal and to determine dark current rates. This dataset supersedes version 1.0 which was safed by PDS because the data were not considered to be scientifically useful for the Stardust mission, due to problems encountered during the flight (stuck filter wheel, contamination on the instrument window, etc.) that changed the instrument characteristics.

EPOXI EARTH OBS - HRIV CALIBRATED IMAGES V2.0

This data set contains calibrated, narrow band filter images (350-950 nm) of Earth acquired by the Deep Impact High Resolution Visible CCD (HRIV) during the EPOCh and Cruise 2 phases of the EPOXI mission. Five sets of observations were acquired on 18-19 March, 28-29 May and 04-05 June 2008 and on 27-28 March and 04-05 October 2009 to characterize Earth as an analog for extrasolar planets. Each observing period lasted approximately 24 hours. HRIV images were acquired once per hour with the filters centered on 350, 750 and 950 nm, whereas the 450-, 550-, 650-, and 850-nm data were taken every 15 minutes. During the observing period in May 2008, the Moon transited across Earth as seen from the spacecraft. On 27 September 2009 during the first attempt of an Earth south polar observation, only seven HRIV frames were acquired before fault protection turned that instrument off; the full sequence was successfully rerun on 04-05 October 2009. Version 2.0 includes the application of a horizontal destriping process and revised electronic crosstalk calibration files.

C130 EARTH ASAS CALIBRATED REDUCED DATA RECORD IMAGE V1.0

Most of the ASAS data acquired for GRSFE were taken during flights over Lunar Lake, Nevada, at a nominal altitude of 5000 m above ground level. Flights over Lunar Lake were repeated to acquire data for a range of solar zenith angles and to obtain data for several view azimuth angles (i.e., for several flight headings relative to the solar principal plane). On most flights, the sensor field of view was initially pointed forward 45 degrees as the aircraft approached the site. The sensor then imaged the site through a sequence of seven fore-to-aft view directions ranging from 45 degrees forward to 45 degrees aft in 15 degree increments as the aircraft flew over the site. The primary target of interest was the Lunar Lake playa, but the digital images also include data for the lava flow and cobble areas within and around the playa. Data were acquired in a similar manner on one flight over the Ubehebe Crater. One flight over Lunar Lake was also flown approximately along the solar principal plane with the ASAS view zenith angle fixed at the solar zenith angle. The purpose of this flight was to observe the opposition effect.

ER2 EARTH AVIRIS CALIBRATED REDUCED DATA RECORD IMAGE V1.0

The Airborne Visible and Infared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) data are divided into 10x10 square kilometer scenes for purposes of standard product generation. More than 40 scenes were generated during GRSFE, more than 20 of which are included on the CD-ROMs, covering a variety of surfaces. Lunar Crater was covered several times in one day (under clear atmospheric conditions) in order to evaluate atmospheric scattering and absorption removal algorithms and to explore extraction of roughness information using variable incidence angle AVIRIS data. The AVIRIS multi-temporal data were acquired at the same time that ground-based, multi-spectral measurements of atmospheric optical depth, and sky radiance at varying scattering angles were acquired, along with surface bidirectional reflectance data. Accurate wavelength calibration of AVIRIS was performed by JPL using laboratory measurements acquired before and after the AVIRIS flights. An additional check on the wavelength calibration can be made by comparing the positions of known atmospheric absorption features to their locations in actual AVIRIS data.
