Poisson models for publications, leadership and recognition awards in the American Academy of Neurology

We sought to study sex with respect to publications, leadership and recognition awards in the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in light of recent research highlighting inequities in these domains.

Methods: We examined medical school graduation, neurology residency (using American Medical Association and the American Council for Graduate Medical Education), membership in the AAN, first and last authorship in Neurology, membership on AAN committees, and AAN recognition awards, by sex, in 1997, 2007, 2017.

Results: Female medical students were less likely to enter neurology residency in 1997 only. In 2007 and 2017, there was no proportionate difference between men and women as last author, a surrogate for senior member of the author panel. In 2017, women were proportionately more likely to be first authors than men, a surrogate for principal investigator of the study. Committee membership was less for women in 1997 and 2007 (P <0.001) but was not proportionately different in 2017 (P=0.534). Women were proportionately more likely to receive recognition awards in all years studied (1997 p=0.008, 2007 p<0.001. 2017 p <0.001) although absolute numbers of women were less.

Conclusions: Female membership, leadership (through committee membership), publications as last author were less in 1997 in the AAN. These same metrics demonstrated substantial proportionate changes, with no differences in last author in 2007 and 2017, greater likelihood for women to be first author in 2017, no differences in committee membership in 2017 and greater likelihood of receiving awards determined by merit in all three years.

Antecedents and Outcomes of Servant Leadership: Implications for the Salesforce

Business scandals during the last 20 years have shown the importance of leadership. The uniqueness of a salesperson’s job makes leadership especially important in professional selling. This study examined antecedents and outcomes of servant leadership. A model analyzing the relationship among moral identity, servant leadership, organizational justice, ethical work climate, and turnover was tested with a sample of 233 business-to-business salespeople and 76 sales managers via a multilevel structural equation model. The findings indicate that moral identity symbolization, but not moral identity internalization is a direct antecedent of servant leadership. Servant leadership is an indirect predictor (through organizational justice) of ethical work climate. Ethical work climate predicts turnover directly. The study makes an important contribution to the existing literature by analyzing how moral identity influences servant leadership. In addition, this study indicates the influence of servant leadership directly on organizational justice and indirectly on ethical work climate and turnover.

Paradoxical Leadership and Employee Proactive Work Behavior: Exploring the Mediating Role of Perceived Psychological Contract Fulfillment.

Abstract

Background

This study delves into the intricate interplay among paradoxical leadership (PL), employees' proactive work behaviour (EPWB), and perceived psychological contract fulfilment (PPCF). PL, characterized by its simultaneous emphasis on apparently contradictory behaviours, has garnered attention due to its potential to foster innovation, adaptability, and creativity. The study's main objective is to thoroughly explore the complexities of PL, its influence on EPWB, and whether the PPCF serves as a mediator.

Methods

A survey was distributed to 338 hotel and travel agency employees to gather data. The data was analysed using structural equation modelling through a SmartPLS program.

Results

The results reveal a positive correlation between PL and EPWB. Additionally, PPCF partially mediates this relationship, indicating its vital role in exploring the positive impact of PL on boosting proactive behaviours.

Conclusions

This research brings forth meaningful contributions to both theoretical and practical dimensions. Theoretically, it enhances our comprehension of how PL manifests in the distinctive landscape of the hospitality and tourism domain, substantiating its potential to drive proactive behaviours among employees. The mediation of PPCF enriches our grasp of the underlying mechanisms, accentuating the significance of maintaining harmonized and consistent leadership practices. From a practical vantage point, these findings offer valuable insights for hospitality and tourism establishments aspiring to optimize their leadership strategies for cultivating proactive work behaviour among their workforces.

Keywords:

Paradoxical leadership; proactive behavior; hotel industry; tourism industry; psychological contract.

Women's status in Higher leadership positions in Ethiopia since 1991

Gender equality in decision-making positions is crucial to achieving the goals of good governance, peace, democracy, and inclusive/sustainable development. The major aim of this research article is to investigate the representation trend of women in higher decision-making positions over the last thirty years, since 1991. The federal three organs of government (law formulating, law enforcing, and law interpreting bodies) were the focus of this research. This research is a mixed type of research that inculcates both qualitative and quantitative data types. Secondary data sources from relevant government institutions were mostly used. The data analyzed through content analysis of documents and presented via descriptive data presenting techniques. The result of this research disclosed the underrepresentation of women's in Ethiopian federal higher leadership positions across the last three decades, despite today's some advancement of women's involvement in decision-making positions. Furthermore, Women never held certain higher-level leadership positions, such as the Prime Minister position, which seems to be forbidden for women. Women made up 23%, 19%, 19%, and 24% of the legislature, the House of Federation (HoF), ministerial posts, and judicial bodies, respectively. Women are visibly underrepresented in the Ethiopian executive body as compared to others. Thus, substantial policy and practical initiatives are needed to remove institutional, social, and economic barriers to boost women's advanced visibility in senior leadership roles.
