Linear and circular economy figure
<p>Two figures representing a linear and circular economy approach with a plastic bottle as an example but is applicable to any recycable waste product and especially single-use plastic packaging.</p> <p>In the linear economy model the product is manufactured using principally new resources, largely petroleum based. Most of the product’s value is lost during its life cycle because of leakage along the entire value chain (red arrows), including pellet loss, littering, combined sewage overflow, loss during transport and improper storage of waste, and poorly designed products that are easily lost to the environment and difficult to recover (microbeads, small wrappers, torn corners of packaging). This leads to a contamination of the environment, affecting wildlife and human well-being. A small proportion is recycled (green arrow) for remanufacture, with the remainder utilized for energy recovery.</p> <p>In the circular economy model a high percentage of recycled content is used as feedstock for new products, and the remainder from sustainable sources (potentially biopolymers). Poor practices (red arrows) throughout the life cycle are mitigated, for example, by proper legislative policy, public awareness that leads to proper consumer waste handling, and incentivized recovery systems (e.g., returnable bottles). Recovery is further improved by regulating end-of-life design in products and packaging. This leads to reduced leakage of plastic to the environment from all sectors of society, and significant improvements are social justice concerns for communities that manage waste. Antibacterial Hydrogel Adhesives based on Bifunctional Telechelic Dendritic-Linear-Dendritic Block Copolymers
<p><span>Antibiotic resistant pathogens have been declared by WHO as one of the major public health threats facing humanity.<span> </span>For that reason, there is an urgent need for materials with inherent antibacterial activity able to replace the use of antibiotics, and in this context, hydrogels have emerged as a promising strategy. Herein, we introduce the next generation of cationic hydrogels with antibacterial activity and high versatility that can be cured on demand in less than twenty seconds by using Thiolene Click Chemistry (TEC) in aqueous conditions. The approach capitalizes on a two-component system: i) telechelic polyester based Dendritic-Linear-Dendritic (DLDs) block copolymers of different generations heterofunctionalized with allyl and ammonium groups, as well as ii) polyethylene glycol (PEG) crosslinkers functionalized with thiol groups. These hydrogels resulted in highly tunable materials where the antibacterial performance can be adjusted by modifying the crosslinking density. Off-stoichiometric hydrogels showed narrow antibacterial activity directed towards Gram-negative bacteria. The presence of pending allyls opens up many possibilities for functionalization with biologically interesting molecules. <span> </span>As a proof-of-concept, hydrophilic cysteamine hydrochloride as well as N-hexyl-4-mercaptobutanamide, as an example of a thiol with a hydrophobic alkyl chain, generated three-component networks. In the case of cysteamine derivatives, a broader antibacterial activity was noted than the two-component networks, inhibiting also the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. Additionally, these systems presented high versatility, with storage modulus values ranging from 270 to 7024 Pa and different stability profiles ranging from 1 to 56 days in swelling experiments. Good biocompatibility towards skin cells as well as strong adhesion to multiple surfaces, place these hydrogels as interesting alternatives to conventional antibiotics.</span></p>

<p>We present a dataset for Symbol-level language modelling of linear B scripts using a Bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network. <br> The RNN is trained to predict the missing symbol in a given Mycenaean sequence.</p> <p>It includes Series "D" sequences 2565 sequences without missing symbols extracted from: <br> J. Chadwick, L. Godart, J. T. Killen, J. P. Olivier, A. Sacconi, and I. A. Sakellarakis. Cluster randomized controlled trial evaluating the impact on children's linear growth of an unconditional cash transfer program implemented in rural areas of North Togo

Generalized linear model with elastic net regularization and convolutional neural network for evaluating Aphanomyces root rot severity in lentil
<p>Red-Green-Blue (RGB) imaging was used to evaluate Aphanomyces root rot in 547 lentil accessions and lines. The root images were pre-processed by removing image background. This dataset (6,460 root images) was used to build two machine learning models — generalized linear model with elastic net regularization and convolutional neural network— to classify root images into three classes. Details about the methodology and results are described in Marzougui et al. (2020, Plant Phenomics).</p> <p>The excel file includes Aphanomyces root rot disease visual scores (<em>Root_Rating</em>), unique identifier for each lentil accession/line (<em>Lentil_ID</em>), unique identifier for each experiment (<em>Experiment</em>), and unique identifier for each image (<em>Lab_ID</em>).</p>
