Global Mean Surface Temperatures for 100 Phanerozoic Time Intervals

This set of Global Mean Surface Temperature (GMST) arrays for 100 Phanerozoic time intervals (stage level) are based on HadleyCM3L simulations (Valdes et al, 2021) that have been modified to better agree with geochemical proxy data (∂18O) and more equable pole-to-equator temperature gradients deduced from lithological indicators of climate (evaporites, calcrete, coals, bauxites, and tillites, etc.) (Scotese et al., 2021). The resolution is 1x1 degrees (latitude/longitude) in three formats: grid-reference, coordinate-list, and netcdf. The accompanying pdf, “Global Mean Temperatures during the Phanerozoic”, by C. R. Scotese, describes the content and methodology used to produce these files. GPRChinaTemp1km: 1 km monthly mean air temperature for China from January 1951 to December 2020

GPRChinaTemp1km is a new high-resolution (1-km) monthly gridded air temperature dataset for China from January 1951 to December 2020. The dataset includes monthly mean air temperature covering the main land area of China during 1951-2020, which was interpolated by the Gaussian process regression (GPR) method based on the meteorological station data. The monthly gridded temperature dataset was evaluated by the observed values of the meteorological stations from the China Meteorological Data Service Centre. The dataset is in GeoTIFF format in the WGS84 (EPSG:4326) coordinate system. The unit of the data is degree Celsius (°C).

75-kyr paired mean summer temperature (MST) and moisture balance (BIT-index) data for eastern equatorial Africa based on GDGT distributions in the DeepCHALLA sediment sequence

The DeepCHALLA (DCH) GDGT-based climate proxy data series consist of paired measurements on 373 discrete 2-cm-thick sediment samples, represented by their DCH event-free depth in meter (mefd). Section depth center refers to the distance (in cm) of the sample’s center from the top of the individual core section as represented by its DCH core code. Sediment age is based on the age model as presented in Fig. 2 in Baxter et al. (2023). Mean Summer Temperature (MST) was calculated from the distribution of sedimentary brGDGTs according to Pearson et al. (2011) and rescaled using an ensemble reconstruction for eastern Africa covering the last 25 ka (Extended Data Fig. 4 in Baxter et al., 2023). The branched versus isoprenoid tetraether (BIT) index of sedimentary brGDGTs from Lake Chala, reflecting lake water-balance variation, was calculated according to Hopmans et al. (2004).

California Current Ecosystem site, station Lindbergh Field Airport, San Diego, CA, study of air temperature (mean maximum ) in units of celsius on a monthly timescale
The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). The web portal is a collaboration between the Jornada LTER and the LTER Network Office. The following dataset from California Current Ecosystem (CCE) contains air temperature (mean maximum ) measurements in celsius units and were aggregated to a monthly timescale.
