Redistribution of the shapefile of the digital soil map of the Flemish Region (status 2017-06-20)

This is a redistribution of the shapefile of the 'Digitale bodemkaart van het Vlaams Gewest: bodemtypes, substraten, fasen en varianten van het moedermateriaal en de profielontwikkeling' (digital soil map of the Flemish Region: soil types, substrates, phases, variants of the parent material, and profile development), originally published by 'Databank Ondergrond Vlaanderen’ (Subsurface Database of Flemish Region, DOV) under a CC-BY compatible license. Its shapefile has been redistributed as the
soilmap
data source, used in reproducible, analytical workflows on Flemish Natura 2000 habitats and regionally important biotopes. These workflows rely on a stable, clean (datafile-only) and uniform representation of each data source version, represented by a Zenodo DOI.

The Belgian soil map was drawn up by intensive soil mapping from the 1950s to 1970s (Dudal et al., 2005). The map is based on the Belgian soil classification system. It is a national system that was set up exclusively for Belgian soils. The digital soil map of the Flemish Region is documented by Van Ranst & Sys (2000). Each spatial polygon, accurately digitized from the soil map sheets (published at map scale 1:20000) at scale 1:5000, includes information on soil types, substrates, phases, variants of the parent material and profile development. If available, the general characteristics and photos of a representative soil profile and environment can be obtained for each soil type. Finally, for each location it is possible to call in a scan of the analog soil map sheet, the corresponding explanation booklet and the basic maps on a 1: 5000 scale. The digital soil map was updated in 2017 with information from several military domains, a uniform soil type was generated for the polder area, and several mistakes were corrected.

The data source is owned by ‘Vlaams Planbureau voor Omgeving’ (Flemish Planning Bureau for Environment, Department of Environment of the Flemish government).

Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest Benchmarks: GIS Shapefile

This coverage was obtained in digital form from Chris Barton of the USGS. Bedrock geology in the Hubbard Brook Valley was mapped by C.C. Barton, R.H. Comerlo, and S.W. Bailey, August 1994 to August 1995. The Map is entitled "BEDROCK GEOLOGIC MAP OF HUBBARD BROOK EXPERIMENTAL FOREST AND MAPS OF FRACTURES AND GEOLOGY IN ROADCUTS ALONG INTERSTATE 93, GRAFTON COUNTY, NEW HAMPSHIRE" and was approved for publication on August 28, 1995. The benchmark adjacent to the Hubbard Brook Headquarters building was set by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation in 1993. The station is a standard NHDOT disk stamped "Hubbard Brook 1993", set into the top of a 4 FT long by 5 IN granite monument flush with the ground and level with the parking lot. Located 17.5 FT (5.3 M) southeast from the southeast corner post for a fence and the orange carsonite marker, 49.5 FT (15.1 M) northeast from the north corner of the office building, 60 FT (18.3 M) east from the west face of the concrete curb, 51.0 FT (15.5 M) south from the northeast corner post for a fence. Benchmark location: NAD83 Latitude = 43 56 38.0361 Longitude = 71 42 03.9897 Northing = 160408.164 Meters Easting = 297235.062 Meters NAD27 Latitude = 43 56 37.7891 Longitude = 71 42 05.7012 Northing = 526,241.45 Feet (State Plane Zone 4676) Easting = 490,803.21 Feet Elevation = 833.87 Feet NGVD29 (El order 31). White Mountain National Forest Boundary: GIS Shapefile

This dataset contains the White Mountain National Forest Boundary. The boundary was extracted from the National Forest boundaries coverage for the lower 48 states, including Puerto Rico developed by the USDA Forest Service - Geospatial Service and Technology Center. The coverage was projected from decimal degrees to UTM zone 19. This dataset includes administrative unit boundaries, derived primarily from the GSTC SOC data system, comprised of Cartographic Feature Files (CFFs), using ESRI Spatial Data Engine (SDE) and an Oracle database. The data that was available in SOC was extracted on November 10, 1999. Some of the data that had been entered into SOC was outdated, and some national forest boundaries had never been entered for a variety of reasons. The USDA Forest Service, Geospatial Service and Technology Center has edited this data in places where it was questionable or missing, to match the National Forest Inventoried Roadless Area data submitted for the President's Roadless Area Initiative. Data distributed as shapefile in Coordinate system EPSG:26919 - NAD83 / UTM zone 19N.

Appalachian stream length dynamics: shapefiles

Wet stream length and connectivity maps for 3 forested catchments (<75 ha) in each of 4 physiographic provinces of the Appalachian Highlands: the New England, Appalachian Plateau, Valley and Ridge, and Blue Ridge. Maps were developed for 12 headwater catchments under 7 different wetness conditions as represented by stream discharge and characterizing conditions between exceedance probabilities of <5% and >90% of the mean daily discharge. The dataset represents a map (shapefile) of the "wet" stream network on 7 different occasions for the 12 catchments. A “wet stream” location applies to visible surface water greater than 1 m in length at a GPS location. These data are described in detail and analyzed in: Jensen, C. K., McGuire, K. J., & Prince, P. S. (2017). Headwater stream length dynamics across four physiographic provinces of the Appalachian Highlands. Hydrological Processes, 31(19), 3350-3363.

Shapefiles for glacier, stream channel, and watershed boundaries in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica (2023)

This data package includes shapefiles for selected glacier, stream watershed, and stream channel boundaries in the McMurdo Dry Valleys region of Antarctica. A combination of satellite imagery and digital elevation models were used to delineate watershed and stream channel outlines, while glaciers were outlined by hand. Watershed boundaries provide an estimate of the overall topographic contributing area for each stream in Fryxell Basin, whereas stream channel boundaries provide a topographic area estimate for stream channel, beyond the wetted margin, for each stream.
