Data from used in the manuscript: Manifestations of sulfuric acid speleogenesis in the Mulapampa travertine, Central Andes of Peru: evidence from the Gruta con Lago

<p><strong>Manuscript Abstract:&nbsp;</strong>Sulfuric acid speleogenesis (SAS) is a form of hypogene speleogenesis characterized by the formation of caves in carbonate rocks due to the presence of sulfuric acid. This study focuses on the Gruta con Lago, one of three caves identified in the Mulapampa travertine, located in the Central Andes of Peru. These caves are accessed through collapse sinkholes, and much of their morphology results from roof breakdown. The bottom of the studied cave is situated&nbsp;at the current water table. Despite the absence of typical solutional features associated with&nbsp;SAS caves, mineralogical and geochemical evidence of speleogenesis involving H2SO4 has been found in Gruta con Lago. Significant accumulations of gypsum deposits on the cave floor and replacement gypsum crusts on walls &ndash; both considered by-products of SAS &ndash; are&nbsp;present. Cave gypsum samples exhibit negative sulfur isotopic composition (ranging from -19.4 to -8.2&permil;) and oxygen (ranging from -9.0 to -1.3&permil;), which are indicative of sulfide (H2S) oxidation. This article discusses potential scenarios of SAS events in the evolution of hypogene karst in the Mulapampa travertine. It also considers the significance of the&nbsp;proximity of the active volcanoes of the Ampato-Sabancaya Volcanic Complex (ASVC) and seismogenic crustal faults in the formation of a thick travertine cover and the potential for SAS processes.</p> <p><strong>In this dataset, we make available supplementary information including 3 figures and 3 tables:</strong></p> <p><strong><span>Fig. S1.</span></strong><span> Gruta Campana. Data for Measurement report: Air pollution emission factors of inland river ships under compliance with the 10 parts per million limit for sulfur content in fuel

<p>Since July 1, 2019, China&rsquo;s domestic diesel fuel has been limited to 10 ppm of sulfur. Hence, to explore the applicability of the &ldquo;sniffer&rdquo; method and the distribution and level of inland river ships (IRSs) emission factors (EFs) under this limitation, we installed &ldquo;sniffer&rdquo; monitoring equipment, from August 2020 to June 2022, at the Gezhou Dam of the Yangtze River in China and monitored emissions from 8,238 IRSs in total passing through the lock. We partnered with the maritime department to select 100 ships passing through the lock to extract fuel oilsamples for direct fuel sulfur content detection, which determined the true fuel sulfur content of the passing ships. fuel sulfur content.</p> <p>The &ldquo;sniffer&rdquo; monitoring equipment included SO2, CO2, NO, and NO2 gas sensors, PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter sensors, as well as wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors.</p>

Napa River Watershed, U.S.A. soil leachate and surface water sulfate sulfur isotopes and concentrations

Sulfur (S) is widely used in agriculture, yet little is known about its fates and consequences within upland, mixed land-use land-cover watersheds. This dataset includes samples collected throughout the Napa River Watershed, California, U.S.A., where high S applications to vineyard agriculture are common. Sample collection focused on tracing the agricultural S “fingerprint” —or the combined S stable isotope composition and concentration of sulfate—through the Watershed. We collected samples during California wet seasons (December – April) over three years (2017-2020). Samples included vineyard agriculture and non-agricultural (primarily forest, grassland, and shrubland) soil water, culvert outflows, tributaries to the Napa River, and Napa River surface water. The data table includes water sample sulfate concentrations and sulfate-S stable isotope measurements as well as the stable isotope composition of S fungicide samples.

Reactivating PTEN to impair glioma stem cells by inhibiting cytosolic iron-sulfur assembly pathway

<p>Glioblastoma (GBM), the most lethal primary brain tumor, harbors glioma stem cells (GSCs) that not only initiate and maintain malignant phenotypes but also enhance therapeutic resistance. Although frequently mutated in GBMs, the function and regulation of PTEN in PTEN-intact GSCs are unknown. Here we found that PTEN directly interacts with MMS19 and competitively disrupts MMS19-based cytosolic iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster assembly (CIA) machinery in the differentiated glioma cells (DGCs). Interrogation of GSCs, when compared with their matched DGCs, revealed that PTEN is specifically succinated at cysteine (C) 211 in GSCs. Isotope tracing coupled with mass spectrometry analysis confirmed that fumarate, generated by adenylosuccinate lyase (ADSL) in <em>de novo</em> purine synthesis pathway which is highly activated in GSCs, promotes PTEN C211 succination. This modification abrogates the interaction between PTEN and MMS19, thereby reactivating CIA machinery pathway in GSCs. Functionally, inhibiting PTEN C211 succination through re-expressing PTEN C211S mutant, depleting ADSL, or consuming fumarate by N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an FDA-approved prescription drug, impairs GSC maintenance. Importantly, re-expressing PTEN C211S or treating with NAC sensitizes GSC-derived brain tumors to temozolomide and irradiation, the standard-of-care treatments for GBM patients, by retarding CIA machinery-mediated DNA damage repair. These findings reveal an immediately practicable strategy to target GSCs for treating GBMs by combined therapy with repurposing NAC.</p>

Supporting data for "Understanding the impact of precipitation kinetics on the electrochemical performance of lithium–sulfur batteries by operando X-ray diffraction"

<p>This is the dataset of electrochemical and operando X-ray diffraction&nbsp;measurements for our publication &quot;Understanding the impact of precipitation kinetics on the electrochemical performance of lithium&ndash;sulfur batteries by operando X-ray diffraction&quot;. This archive contains the raw data and scripts written in R used in the analysis and presentation of the results in this manuscript.</p> <p>Abstract of the manuscript:</p> <p>The complex reaction mechanism of the lithium&ndash;sulfur battery system consists of repetitive dissolution and precipitation of the sulfur-containing species in the positive electrode. In particular, the precipitation of lithium sulfide (Li2S) during discharge has been considered a crucial factor for obtaining a high degree of active material utilization. Here, the influence of electrolyte amount, electrode thickness, applied current and electrolyte salt on the formation of Li2S is systematically investigated in a series of operando X-ray diffraction experiments. Through a combination of simultaneous diffraction and resistance measurements, the evolution of Li2S is directly correlated to the variation in internal resistance and transport properties inside the positive electrode. The correlation indicates that at different stages, the Li2S precipitation both facilitates and impedes the discharge process. This information on the kinetics of Li2S formation offers mechanistic explanations for the strong impact of different electrochemical cell parameters on the cell performance and thus, directions for holistic optimizations to achieve high sulfur utilization.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
