OpenUP survey on researchers' current perceptions and practices in peer review, impact measurement and dissemination of research results

<p>OpenUP project (http://openup-h2020.eu/) conducted a survey to capture current perceptions and practices in peer review, dissemination of research results and impact measurement among European researchers.  The survey was coducted between 20 January and 23 February 2017.  It consisted of four sections. The first section asked a series of questions on the respondents’ scientific discipline, career stage, gender and other characteristics. The following sections asked a series of questions on peer review practices, dissemination of research results and impact measurement/use of altmetrics. The questionnaire was collaboratively prepared by the OpenUP consortium. </p> <p>The survey was implemented via surveygizmo tool (https://www.surveygizmo.com/). Invitations to participate were sent to a random sample of researchers from arXiv, Pubmed and RePEc. The OpenUP team mined researchers’ contact details from these platforms.  The OpenUP project team made efforts to further boost the repondent sample for certain underrepresented areas through the DARIAH website, THESIS network, EURODOC, AIMS portal, the Parthenos community and other channels. The survey targeted researchers from the EU-28, Switzerland and Norway. The goal was to get around 1,000 responses. In total, there were 976 completed response and completion rate was 72.4%. </p> <p>The attached documents include the questionnaire and the dataset. In the dataset (cvs file) the top row contains numbered questions that correspond to the numberring in the questionnaire (word file). The data was exported as an excel file, anonymised by creating respondent IDs and IP data were deleted. The file was then converted to CSV.</p> <p> </p>

Final Results from the RDM Survey - LEARN project (June 2017)

<p> </p> <p>Data obtained from the open survey developed by the LEARN project (http://www.learn-rdm.eu/) as a self-assessment tool to assist institutions discover how ready they are for managing research data. This dataset replaces the previous ones published at http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.61903 and http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.290635. The survey is based on the issues posed to institutions by the LERU Roadmap for Research Data published at the end of 2013, and available at: http://www.learn-rdm.eu/material/leru_roadmap_for_research_data<br> The survey has thirteen questions addressing the main elements to be taken into account in developing an institutional strategy for research data management. Each question has three possible answers representing green, yellow or red light. <p>This dataset has been prepared as part of the Interreg Alpine Space project Eco-AlpsWater (ASP569) -&nbsp;<em>Innovative Ecological Assessment and Water Management Strategy for the Protection of Ecosystem Services in Alpine Lakes and Rivers</em>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.alpine-space.eu/projects/eco-alpswater/en/home">https://www.alpine-space.eu/projects/eco-alpswater/en/home</a></p> <p>Individual archives include 16S rRNA (cyanobacteria) and 18S rRNA (microalgae) FASTA sequences and associated blastn results obtained from the high throughput sequencing of plankton and biofilm bulk/eDNA samples collected in 2019 in 37 lakes and 22 rivers across the Alpine region. These are supporting files for the paper by Salmaso et al., 2022.&nbsp;DNA sequence and taxonomic gap analyses to quantify the coverage of aquatic cyanobacteria and eukaryotic microalgae in reference databases: Results of a survey in the Alpine region. Project Information Model resulting from the on-site survey

<p>The On-site Analysis and Verification Service (ODAVS) is a service developed within the Encore project. It allows users to check any constructability issues regarding renovation projects of residential buildings by means of surveys facilitated by a mixed reality tool.&nbsp;</p> <p>This dataset includes two IFC files of the renovation studies developed by Univpm and JEA (both partners of Encore project) at JEA experimental building in Caceres, and assessed on-site on 2021 December 14th and 15th. The dataset also includes an XML file containing the list of 33 URLS pointing to audio files previously published on a different Zenodo dataset [1]. Note that the access to the Zenodo dataset [1] is restricted. The interested users must ask the dataset authors for permission to access the dataset itself. Lamminaho Wooden Estate: 3D laser scanner survey and post production results.

<p>The dataset collects detailed information about the architecture and the environment of the historic place of Lamminaho, in Vaala region, Finland. The topic is included in the list of the case studies chosen by post doctoral fellow Sara Porzilli, who is working under Marie S. Curie Fellowship at the University of Oulu, Finland (School of Architecture, Department of &quot;History of Architecture and Restoration Studies&quot;).&nbsp;Supervisor: Prof. Arch. Anna-Maija Ylimaula. The study was promoted also&nbsp;by the &quot;National Board of Antiquities (NBA) - Museovirasto &quot;based in Helsinki (Responsible: Arch. Helena Hirviniemi) operating under the Directorate of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and &quot;Senate Properties&quot; (Responsible: Dr. Juha Keranen), partner and manager working under the Finnish government for the protection and protection of the Finnish heritage present on the territory of Italy and abroad. The research was dedicated to defining the methods for carrying out survey activities on historical wooden architecture, identifying the fundamental aspects of laser scanners methodologies&nbsp;and photogrammetric activities. The work has produced a detailed&nbsp;info-graphic atlas concerning all the buildings located in Lamminaho. The work&nbsp;had a theoretical approach, devoted on research and archival documentation. The results of the research are going to support all the practical activities of restoration and repair necessary in the&nbsp;process of musealization of the area.</p>

SERENA Task 1.4 – Definition of scenarios - Survey results

<p>The internal EJP SOIL project SERENA contributed to the evaluation of soil multifunctionality aiming at providing assessment tools for land planning and soil policies at different scales. By co-working with relevant stakeholders, the project provided co-developed indicators and associated cookbooks to assess and map them, to report both on soil degradation, soil-based ecosystem services and their bundles, under actual conditions and for climate and land-use changes, at the regional, national, and European scales.</p>

Global knowledge and use of soil biodiversity: Results of an expert survey

<p>A global survey on soil biodiversity (see file Global Biodiversity Survey.pdf provided as an attachment) was conducted over a three-week period in March 2022 by the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, as part of the activities of the International Network on Soil Biodiversity (NETSOB). The survey intended to obtain information on the current status of knowledge and use of soil organisms worldwide, i.e., to identify who is doing what, where, and how, as well as the main gaps, pitfalls, and opportunities across existing national initiatives and research.</p> <p>The survey included 122 questions that characterized the work undertaken by experts regarding microbes, fauna, and their activity in soils, community &amp; functional assessments, inventories, mapping and monitoring activities, ecosystem services, applications, and threats to soil biodiversity, education, and communication activities, as well as public policies related to soil biodiversity. The online survey was created using the software Survey Monkey v. 11 and was sent out to over 70 thousand e-mail addresses with a link to complete the survey.&nbsp;</p> <p>Over 2,600 responses were received, representing &gt;1,350 institutions from 135 countries, mainly from experts active in research and academia. The number of respondents was not equal for all questions, as the survey guided the respondents to different parts, depending on their replies.</p> <p>The 122 questions and the replies of the respondents are presented as separate tabs in the attached Excel file (Results survey for Zenodo.xlsx). The respondents and their identities, as well as their e-mails and any personal websites were removed in the current file to maintain anonymity. Institutional websites were maintained as long as they did not identify the respondent(s) directly.&nbsp;</p> <p>A detailed written description of the survey results was prepared as a manuscript for a special issue of the journal Soil Organisms, volume 97 (Brown et al., 2025). The survey was prepared by a team of scientists from the Brazilian Corporation for Agricultural Research (Embrapa) and collaborating institutions, with assistance from the board of the International Network on Soil Biodiversity (NETSOB), and with funding provided by the FAO. The work was further supported by the Funda&ccedil;&atilde;o de Apoio a Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Agropecu&aacute;rio Edmundo Gastal (FAPEG), Brazil, a grant of CNPq (Processo No. 312824/2022-0) to GGB, and of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grant program (# 05901&ndash;2019) to ZL, who was also supported by Western University.</p>

NI4OS-Europe landscaping survey results

<p>The dataset includes 575 complete responses collected in the NI4OS-Europe landscaping survey between 21 October and 10 December 2019. The survey was run in the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.<br> The activity was coordinated in collaboration with the four regional EOSC projects (EOSC- Pillar, EOSC-Nordic, EOSC Synergy, ExPaNDS) and its results were used by the EOSC Landscape Working Group.</p> <p>The starting point for developing the survey was the questionnaire designed by the EOSC-Pillar project team, but Policy Mapping Survey by Regional Cooperation Council, EUA&rsquo;s Open Access Survey and the FAIRsFAIR Policy and Practice Survey 2019 were also used. Some of the questions that were included had to be rephrased to adapt to regional stakeholders&rsquo; needs.&nbsp; NI4OS-Europe work package leaders suggested additional questions, some of which were included in the survey. The file NI4OS-Europe_survey_questions.ods contains all the questions from the survey mapped according to topics. For each question it is indicated whether it was adopted from an existing survey or was suggested by a NI4OS work package.</p> <p>Five questionnaires were defined &ndash; one for each stakeholder group identified by the NI4OS-Europe partners based on their role in the research ecosystem: FUND (research funders and policymakers), CREATE (universities, research institutes, etc.), SUPPORT (libraries, repositories, research infrastructures, etc.), CONSUME (organizations using research results in their work, e.g. SMEs) and FACILITATE (individuals and organizations involved in promoting the principles of open science). There were 82 questions in all questionnaires.</p> <p>LimeSurvey was used to collect responses. As some questions appeared across multiple surveys, the five questionnaires were merged into one survey with forking paths: after answering the preliminary questions, a respondent was redirected to the appropriate questionnaire.</p> <p>The survey collected 575 complete responses from 482 distinct entities in 15 countries. Baltimore Ecosystem Study: Stewardship Mapping And Assessment Project (STEW-MAP) survey results 2011 and 2019

Addressing the challenges of sustainable and equitable city management in the 21st century requires innovative solutions and integration from a range of dedicated actors. In order to form and fortify partnerships of multi-sectoral collaboration, expand effective governance, and build collective resiliency it is important to understand the network of existing stewardship organizations. The term ‘stewardship’ encompasses a spectrum of local agents dedicated to the evolving process of community care and restoration. Groups involved in stewardship across Baltimore are catalysts of change through a variety of conservation, management, monitoring, transformation, education, and advocacy activities for the local environment – many with common goals of joint resource management, distributive justice, and community power sharing. The “environment” here is intentionally broadly defined as land, air, water, energy and more. The Stewardship Mapping and Assessment Project (STEW-MAP) is a method of data collection and visualization that tracks the characteristics of organizations and their financial and informational flows across sectors and geographic boundaries. The survey includes questions about three facets of environmental stewardship groups: 1) organizational characteristics, 2) collaboration networks, and 3) stewardship “turfs” where each organization works. Why, what and how do European healthcare managers use performance data? Results of a survey and workshop among members of the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation (Data set; anonymised)

<p>The dataset presents results of a descriptive cross-sectional study based on a survey, delivered through an online self-reported questionnaire.&nbsp;The questionnaire was distributed to managers of hospitals and other health care organisations in a purposive sample of participants to the Exchange Programmes of the European Hospital and Health Care Federation (HOPE) eliciting information on the actual use of performance data in hospitals and other healthcare organisations in Europe in 2019.<br> Data collected through the online questionnaire was analysed using univariate descriptive statistics. Analyses were conducted using the R statistical program version 3.6.1. Respondents were, for certain parts of the analysis, sub-grouped by their reported managerial position and experience, as well as the type of organisation they work for. Analysis was done on a full sample of respondents, including the primary, 2019 HOPE Exchange Programme participants, and the secondary study population, 2015-2018 Exchange Programme alumni and local hosts.</p>

Data Release: Aurorasaurus Science Products Inventory & Survey Results (2014-2019)

<p>Aurorasaurus is an eight-year-old project: the first and only citizen science initiative that tracks auroras around the world via reports on our website, mobile apps, and social media. Zenodo. <a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1255196">http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1255196</a>.)</p> <p>At the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting 2019, MacDonald and Brandt (2019) gave a talk entitled &quot;Towards developing appropriate and diverse metrics for citizen science &ndash; a case study.&quot; In the presentation, they examined our 2015 user survey, used more recent metrics to assess Aurorasaurus&#39; current status, and began to lay a framework for their next round of evaluation.&nbsp;</p> <p>In order to frame the process, MacDonald and Brandt (2019) utilized the Science Products and Data Practices inventories created by Wiggins et al., (2018). The authors constructed lists of items and practices that should be present in citizen science projects.&nbsp;While the Science Products and Data Practices inventories are excellent for quantitative analysis, MacDonald and Brandt (2019) wanted to include qualitative analysis of past evaluation as well. To that end, they informally and retrospectively mapped Aurorasaurus&#39; 2015 survey questions to the BASIK framework.</p> <p>Aurorasaurus is publishing this dataset as a case study for how the Wiggins et al. framework can be applied and combined with other systems.</p>

Survey results from FISC exams

<p>These data are derived from tests for Field Identification Skills Certificates (FISCs) that have been running for eight years under the aegis of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland. These certificates are intended to give the participants and potentially their future or current employers a guide to their skill at plant identification in the field. These day-long tests include a field test and it is from this field test that the data in this paper are derived.</p> <p>These files contain 238 surveys from the FISCs conducted in Shropshire, UK. The area to be surveyed was made very clear to the participants &ndash; if a smaller area was used within a larger reserve it was fenced or taped off clearly.&nbsp; It was made clear to participants whether or not hedges were to be surveyed.</p> <p>The observations are separated into taxa that are accepted to be present; taxa that are&nbsp;unreasonable or known to be incorrect; &lsquo;mythical&rsquo; species which don&#39;t exist and &lsquo;cautious&rsquo; records, with just a generic name.&nbsp;Each column represents the survey of one surveyor.</p>
