<p>These measurement data are obtained and analyzed as part of a research project on adiabatic gas-liquid flow in a cross-corrugated plate heat exchanger channel. (See list of publications below). <br> The following Creative Commons license applies to the research data (images and measurement values) uploaded to the online repositories:<br> CC-BY 4.0<br> Author: Susanne Buscher</p> <p>The measurement data is published in 2 data sets: </p> <p>Data set I: Original image data (4 parts): <br> - uniform gas injection, part 1: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7985771; <br> - uniform gas injection, part 2: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7986374; <br> - uniform gas injection, part 3: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7986384; <br> - non-uniform gas injection (part 4): https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8067163<br> This data set contains the original photographs of the two-phase flow in the cross-corrugated channel obtained with a high-resolution camera. In addition, the corresponding experimental parameters and flow patterns (for part 1-3 only) are included in the CSV files.<br> For uniform and non-uniform gas injection, respectively, the images were stored in sequentially numbered folders. The numbers of the folders correspond to the numbers of the measurement points listed in the attached CSV files with the associated experimental parameters.<br> The image folders are grouped in ZIP archives. Data from: The preparation and characterization of uniform nanoporous structure on glass
<p>A novel fabrication method of uniform porous structures on the glass surface is proposed. The hydrofluoric acid fog formed by air-jet atomization etches the glass surface to fabricate nanoporous structure (NPS) on glass surface. This NPS shows the enhanced average light transmittance of ~92.9% and the superhydrophilic property with a contact angle less than 1° which presents an excellent anti-fog property. Passivated by fluorosilane, the NPS shows nearly the superhydrophobic property with a contact angle of 141.2°. This fabrication method has shown promising application prospects due to its simplicity, low cost and efficiency, which can be easily applied to large-scale industrial production.</p>

Supplementary material: Modeling and Compensating Temperature-dependent Non-uniformity Noise in IR Microbolometer Cameras
<p><strong>Abstract</strong>: Images rendered by uncooled microbolometer-based infrared (IR) cameras are severely degraded by the spatial non-uniformity (NU) noise. The NU noise imposes a fixed-pattern over the true images, and the intensity of the pattern changes with time due to the temperature instability of such cameras. In this paper, we present a novel model and a compensation algorithm for the spatial NU noise and its temperature-dependent variations. The model separates the NU noise into two components: a constant term, which corresponds to a set of NU parameters determining the spatial structure of the noise, and a dynamic term, which scales linearly with the fluctuations of the temperature surrounding the array of microbolometers. We use a black-body radiator and samples of the temperature surrounding the IR array to offline characterize both the constant and the temperature-dependent NU noise parameters. Next, the temperature-dependent variations are estimated online using both a spatially uniform Hammerstein-Wiener estimator and a pixelwise least mean squares (LMS) estimator. We compensate for the NU noise in IR images from two long-wave IR cameras. Results show an excellent non-uniformity correction performance and a root mean square error of less than 0.25◦C, when array’s temperature varies approximately 15◦C.</p>
Effect of the red uniform on the judgment of position or movement used in Wushu Routine, evaluated by practitioners of the modality
<p>Experiment 1 design was adopted a 2 (Color: red, blue) x 2 (Gender: male, female) ANOVA. 144 Participants were randomly assigned to four groups based on uniform color (red vs. blue) and practitioners' gender (male vs. female) in a 2 x 2 between-subject design according to the method of random number table. There were 36 male athletes and 36 female athletes in the red uniform group, and 36 male athletes and 36 female athletes in the blue uniform group. Experiment 2 used within-subjects design to conducted experiment separately for the blue and red groups. The female practitioners were randomly assigned to two groups according to the method of random number table and made ratings of the athletes once during the ovulation phase and once during the non-ovulation phase. The order in which the tasks were completed was balanced between subjects: Half of the females in the blue group were tested first during ovulation and then during non-ovulation; the other half were tested first during non-ovulation and then during ovulation. The red group did the same arrangement. They were instructed to look at each photograph for 5s and then rate the quality of the each athlete's movements. After scoring was completed, they were told to proceed to the questionnaire, which was designed to probe for awareness of the manipulation. Finally, look at the differences in the ratings of Wushu Routine athletes wearing different colored uniform by these different groups of participants, and whether the subjects in Experiment 1 would have been aware of color effect.</p><p>The results of Experiment 1 showed that both male and female athletes wearing red uniform (compared to blue uniform) received higher ratings, and the red effect was especially strong when male practitioners rated female athletes. The results of Experiment 2, in an all-female sample, showed that in most cases there was no difference in ratings made by women in the ovulation and non-ovulation phases of their menstrual cycle, with the exception of their ratings of male athletes wearing red; in this condition, women gave higher ratings when they were in the ovulation phase of their cycle.</p>

Data from: Ultra-uniform, strong and ductile 3D printed titanium alloy through bifunctional alloy design
<p>Coarse columnar grains and heterogeneously distributed phases commonly form in metallic alloys produced by three-dimensional (3D) printing and are often considered undesirable because they can impart non-uniform and inferior mechanical properties. We demonstrate a design strategy to unlock consistent and enhanced properties directly from 3D printing. Using Ti−5Al−5Mo−5V−3Cr as a model alloy, we show that adding molybdenum (Mo) nanoparticles promotes grain refinement during solidification and suppresses the formation of phase heterogeneities during solid-state thermal cycling. The microstructural change due to the bifunctional additive results in uniform mechanical properties and simultaneous enhancement of both strength and ductility. We demonstrate how this alloy can be modified by a single component to address unfavourable microstructures, providing a pathway to achieve desirable mechanical characteristics directly from 3D printing.</p>
Magnetic field enhancements in the interplanetary solar wind: Diverse processes manifesting a uniform observation type?
<p>Interlaced magnetic flux ropes are a subject of investigation in various space environments, including the solar corona, interplanetary solar wind, and magnetosheath. In this study, we utilize a Hall Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) model to replicate these interactions within selected regions. By employing plasma flow to propel two flux ropes of various parameters towards each other, we examine the effect of their relative helicity on the ensuing process. Our simulations, coupled with vector analysis, found the existence of flux ropes with opposing helicity along their axes (counter-helical) in some of the resultant interactions. These findings underscore the need to identify and study counter-helical flux ropes in space. The study presented here contributes new comprehension of space plasma dynamics and new insights into the solar wind in control of space weather.</p>
