Quantitative results of the analysis of human bioengineered tissues corresponding to the work "Development of novel squid gladius biomaterials for cornea tissue engineering"

<p>This dataset corresponds to the quantitative data generated in the work entitled "Development of novel squid gladius biomaterials for cornea tissue engineering".</p> <p>Cornea tissue engineering is strictly dependent on the development of biomaterials fulfilling the strict biocompatibility, biomechanical and optical requirements of this organ. In this work, we have generated novel biomaterials from the squid gladius (SG) and their application in cornea tissue engineering was evaluated. Results revealed that the native SG (N-SG) was biocompatible in laboratory animals, although a local inflammatory reaction was driven by the material. Cellularized biomaterials (C-SG) demonstrated that the SG provides an adequate substrate for cell attachment and growth, and corneal epithelial cells cultured on this biomaterial were able to express crystallin alpha, a marker for this type of cells. Biomechanical analyses showed that N-SG biomaterials have higher Young modulus and lower traction deformation than control native corneas (CTR), and C-SG showed similar Young modulus than CTR. Analysis of the optical properties of these samples revealed that the diffuse transmittance of N-SG and C-SG were higher than CTR, with the diffuse reflectance showing the opposite behavior. These results confirm the putative usefulness of this abundant marine-derived biomaterial that can be obtained as a byproduct of the fishing industry.</p>

Dataset from: 'Tropical deforestation accelerates local warming and loss of safe outdoor working hours'

<p>Abstract:</p> <p>&#39;Climate change has increased heat exposure in many parts of the tropics, negatively impacting outdoor worker productivity and health. Although it is known that tropical deforestation causes local warming, the extent to which this warming affects people across the tropics is unknown. Here, we combine worker health guidelines with satellite, reanalysis, and population data to investigate how increases in local temperatures associated with recent deforestation (2003-2018) affects outdoor working conditions across low-latitude countries, and how future global climate change will magnify heat exposure for people in deforested areas. We find that the local warming associated with just 15 years of deforestation has caused losses in safe thermal working conditions for 2.8 million outdoor workers. We also show recent large-scale forest loss caused particularly large impacts on populations in locations such as the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Par&aacute;. Future global warming and additional forest loss will magnify these impacts.&#39;</p>

IN_CERT- The work process video

<p>IN_CERT is an initiative lead by the <a href="https://alella-cat.translate.goog/canmanye?_x_tr_sl=auto&amp;_x_tr_tl=en&amp;_x_tr_hl=en">Can Many&eacute; Art Center</a>&nbsp;that arose in a context of pandemic and health crisis unprecedented in our contemporaneity, which aims to make visible the links between science, art and health, the transformative capacity of art and also its social and humanitarian dimensions for general public. The Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital (HUGTIP) and&nbsp;the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP),&nbsp;through the <a href="https://www.smatb.eu/">SMA-TB project</a>, have&nbsp;participated in IN_CERT.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.smatb.eu/">SMA-TB</a> and <a href="https://www.mistral-hiv.eu/">MISTRAL</a> project coordinators were&nbsp;2 of the 3 members of the stable group of scientists involved in the initiative. IN_CERT generated several outputs: debates, a book, this video and conferences.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>This video shows the work process over the course of a year, with regular meetings, made up of a stable group of artists, scientists and people linked to the art world.&nbsp;</p>

How does a Moka Pot work? 2D X-Ray video gives insights!

<p>This sequence of X-Ray images shows how one of the most common Italian moka pots actually work! The sequence starts with a completely prepared moka pot (water in the bottom part, coffee in the middle and hot plate&nbsp;on). Frauen* im Fokus. Transcriptions and full texts of letters and works of women's rights activists

<p>In winter 2023/24 the Berlin State Library and Potsdam University (chair for Comparative Literature) organized the citizen science workshop&nbsp;<a href="https://lab.sbb.berlin/events/frauen-im-fokus/">"Frauen* im Fokus"</a> (women* in focus).</p> <p>Within the project 48 participants transcribed 85 letters and documents by 19th- and early 20th-century women's rights activists held in the collections of the State Library. The transcriptions provided by the participants were aligned with the digital images of the items using the <a href="https://ocr-bw.bib.uni-mannheim.de/escriptorium/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eScriptorium</a> platform and software and checked for potential errors. From eScriptorium, the transcriptions were exported as ALTO and PAGE files. From the PAGE files, TEI/XML files were created with added metadata about the correspondence (where applicable).</p> <p>In addition to these MS sources, 55 printed works of the same activists were OCRed and are included in the dataset as PAGE and ALTO-files; these files were not manually checked for quality.</p> <p>We would like to thank our trainees Lilly Bucksteeg and Lilly Welz for their valuable contribution to the creation of the data set.</p> <p>The data set consists of five zip-files containing:</p> <ul> <li>the print sources in PAGE format</li> <li>the print sources in ALTO format</li> <li>the manuscript sources in PAGE format</li> <li>the manuscript sources in ALTO format</li> <li>the manuscript sources in TEI format</li> </ul> <p>------------------</p> <p>Im Wintersemester 2023/24 f&uuml;hrten die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin und die Universit&auml;t Potsdam (Professur f&uuml;r Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft) das&nbsp;<a href="https://lab.sbb.berlin/events/frauen-im-fokus/">Projekt "Frauen* im Fokus"</a> durch.</p> <p>Im Rahmen des Projekts transkribierten 48 Personen 85 Briefe und andere Nachlassdokumente von Frauenrechtlerinnen des 19. und fr&uuml;hen 20. Jahrhunderts. Das Organisationsteam nahm auf der Plattform <a href="https://ocr-bw.bib.uni-mannheim.de/escriptorium/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eScriptorium</a> eine teilweise automatisierte Layoutanalyse und Zeilensegmentierung der Digitalisate vor und f&uuml;gte nach erfolgter inhaltlicher Qualit&auml;tskontrolle die von den Teilnehmenden erstellten Transkriptionen dort ein, um sie dann als PAGE- und ALTO-Dateien zu exportieren; zus&auml;tzlich wurden aus den PAGE-Dateien TEI-Dateien der einzelnen Dokumente generiert, die (wo passend) mit Brief-Metadaten zu Absendern, Empf&auml;ngern und Orten angereichert wurden.</p> <p>Im Rahmen des Projekts wurden zudem 55 Druckwerke der Frauenrechtlerinnen aus dem Bestand der Staatsbibliothek als Volltexte erschlossen. Die Segmentierung und Volltexterkennung der Druckwerke erfolgte automatisch in eScriptorium ohne zus&auml;tzliche manuelle Qualit&auml;tskontrolle. Context-based Entity Recommendation on Real-Life Knowledge Work in Context (RLKWiC dataset)

<h2><a href="../records/11059573">RLKWiC</a> Add-on: Benchmarking Dataset for Entity Recommendation</h2> <p>This benchmark, built on top of the Real-Life Knowledge Work in Context (<a href="../records/11059573">RLKWiC</a>) dataset, is designed to evaluate context-based entity recommendation by simulating a scenario where participants receive entities extracted from their activities across their defined contexts.&nbsp;</p> <p>In total, 1850 entity recommendations were generated across 56 contexts. After deduplication, these entities were presented to participants for explicit relevance assessment on a 3-point scale:</p> <ul> <li>0 [Irrelevant]: Signifying a lack of relevance between the recommended entity and the context.</li> <li>1 [Relevant] Denoting a connection between the entity and the context, although it may not fully represent it.</li> <li>2 [Representative]: The entity closely aligns with the context, indicating a high level of relevance where the context can be inferred to be about this entity.</li> </ul> <p>Participants could also suggest additional relevant entities. CATCH-EyoU Work Package 2 Dataset 2.2a - Aggregation of Literature

<p>The data is an aggregated dataset collected from all contributing partners, and includes a bibliography, concerning Europe, youth engagement and active citizenship across the disciplines represented in the Consortium (Political Science, Sociology, History, Media and Communications, Psychology and Education).</p> <p>The dataset contains reference to 770 individual texts.</p> <p>It is highly unlikely that a similar aggregated bibliography exists elsewhere.</p> <p>As this is new data, the reasons no suitable existing data are available is due to the breadth and scope of the aggregated dataset, which for the first time brings together literature from various disciplinary perspectives of young people and active citizenship across Europe, thus bridging a gap between previous studies that have mainly been limited to explorations of citizenship literatures within specific disciplines (and not across).</p> <p>The data sources are provided via csv document bibliography.</p> <p>The data set cleans and aggregates raw bibliographic data collected by consortium members during Months 1-3 of the research study.</p> <p>The aggregated literature dataset constitutes bibliographic data which can be reused by researchers who want to compare our data with similar data collected in different countries.</p>

Duhumbi crafts: leather work, weaving, bamboo craft

<p>Short description: This collection of videos, audio and photo files displays Duhumbi crafts, as recorded between 2012 and 2017. Three main crafts are the art of weaving, the bamboo (and cane) craft, and the leather craft. The weaving topic shows the carding of wool, preparing the warp, the backstrap loom and the various actions of weaving while weaving a bag panel, a bag strap and boot straps, parts of the backstrap loom, weaving tools, nettle fiber bags and some examples of designs on the traditional bags. The bamboo craft topic shows how a bamboo rope is twisted, and various bamboo products. Diversify works. introductory video of Diverfarming H2020 project

<p>Introductory video about H2020 Diverfarming project. We show here the benefits of diversified cropping systems and why Europe needs crop diversification.</p> <p>With the long-term view of increasing diversification and biodiversity in Europe and fostering sustainable development of bioeconomy, the Diverfarming consortium come together to develop and deploy innovative farming and agribusiness strategies. Diverfarming will increase the long-term resilience, sustainability and economic revenues of agriculture across the EU by assessing the real benefits and minimising the limitations, barriers and drawbacks of diversified cropping systems under low-input agronomic practices that are tailor-made to fit the unique characteristics of six EU pedoclimatic regions (Mediterranean south and north, Atlantic central, Continental, Pannonian and Boreal), and by adapting and optimising the downstream value chains organization. This approach will provide: i) increased overall land productivity; ii) more rational use of farm land and farming inputs (water, energy, machinery, fertilisers, pesticides); ii) improved delivery of ecosystem services by increments in biodiversity and soil quality; iii) proper organization of downstream value chains adapted to the new diversified cropping systems with decreased use of energy; and iv) access to new markets and reduced economy risks by adoption of new products in time and space. The diversified cropping systems will be tested in field case studies for major crops within each pedoclimatic region. In the end, Diverfarming focuses on research and innovation for rural development, with emphasis on developing new framework systems and business models adapted to the rural context of each pedoclimatic area of the EU, to foster sustainable growth through adoption of diversification, sustainable practices and efficient use of resources.</p>

CATCH-EyoU Work Package 2 Dataset 2.1a - Full Consortium Collection of Literature Matrix

<p>The dataset includes&nbsp;<strong>one master&nbsp;spreadsheet containing literatures searched, catalogued and summarised in the fields of Cultural Studies, Education, History, Media and Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology,</strong> which contains <strong>770 selected texts.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The aims of the data collected are to produce an integrated theory that builds on the findings of different disciplines (Cultural Studies, Education, History, Media and Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology) focused on the understanding of factors and processes (from the macro social level to the social and psychological level), within the different life contexts, that promote or hinder youth active citizenship in EU.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>It is possible that similar databases of literature around Europe, Young People and Active Citizenship across the fields of Cultural Studies, Education, History, Media and Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology exist in other forms, perhaps collected for studies on one or more of the included disciplines, but we do not currently have access to a similar repository.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>With that said, it is highly unlikely that an exact dataset corresponding to the specifics of this study exist in any form elsewhere, thus justifying the creation of new data for this study in the absence of suitable existing data. Data collected here will bridge the gap between global aggregated literatures on youth and citizenship separated by discipline on the one hand, and a new dataset offering an integrated literature analysis of different fields of study.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The data sources are available in bibliographic format and attached via csv document.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The dataset relies on the following information taken from the data sources: specific identifying information about the text itself (title/author/year/publisher); and abstract or summarizing information either taken directly from the text or summarized by the researcher.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Finally, the aggregated literature review spreadsheet constitutes raw data which can be reused by researchers who want to compare our data with similar data collected in different countries, or to perform textual analysis (content analysis and/or data mining) on our data.</p>

Geo-referenced Harmonized Financial Data on Soil Defense Public Works in Italy

<p>The dataset collects financial data about public works in Italy, specifically, it focuses on soil defense investments. The data is sourced from three distinct platforms: the OpenCoesione website, the OpenBDAP database, the Ministry of Economy and Finance's open data platform, and the ReNDiS database, provided by ISPRA, that exclusively gathers information about interventions in soil defense. The data obtained is interconnected using unique project codes (CUP) to prevent duplication.</p> <p>Georeferencing involves integrating geographic references into the three datasets. It enhances the accuracy of spatial analyses of spatial defense investments and provides valuable context for understanding the geographical distribution of available financial data. By incorporating geographic references such as regions, provinces, and municipalities analysts can gain insights into the spatial patterns and relationships within the datasets. This step is crucial for effective decision-making and policy formulation in the field of soil defense investments.</p> <p>Geographical references for each project were integrated using codes and names of regions, provinces, and municipalities from the ISPRA database. This database retrieves information directly from ISTAT websites, ensuring constant updates to names and codes, thus enhancing the accuracy of spatial analyses.</p> <p>Furthermore, geographical codes facilitated the association of centroids coordinates and polygon shapes for each financial observation, enhancing spatial visualization and analysis of soil defense investments, empowering decision-makers with a deeper understanding of the geographic distribution and impact of these initiatives. This comprehensive approach allows for a deeper exploration of the geographical factors influencing soil defense investments, including identifying hotspots of activity, assessing spatial trends, and understanding the localized impact of interventions on environmental sustainability and community resilience.</p> <p>The zip folder comprises four subfolders and two files. Among the files, one is a text file containing metadata, while the other is a CSV file consolidating merged data at the national level from three repositories. The subfolders contain data categorized by region and data categorized by region sourced from the three distinct repositories.</p> <p>&nbsp;Datasets present 28 variables:&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Columns 1-2: descriptive variables;</li> <li>Column 3: total amount financed for each intervention;</li> <li>Columns 4-9: geo-reference variables;</li> <li>Columnn 10:25: key dates of the public works process;</li> <li>Column 26: source of the data;</li> <li>Columns 27-28: geo-referencing (centroids and areal shape).</li> </ul> <p>An additional dataset has been added comprising all Italian municipalities, including thos that lack information on soil defense investments. In such a way, there are geographical information regarding all the peninsula.&nbsp;</p>

JOINT WEBINAR: SUSTAFUELS, Three European Solutions Working on Algal & Renewable Fuels

<p>On May 21, 2024, an informative webinar titled &ldquo;SUSTAFUELS, Three European Solutions Working on Algal &amp; Renewable Fuels&rdquo; was held from 12:00 to 13:00 CET. This online event was a collaborative effort among three key projects&mdash;ALFAFUELS, COCPIT, and FUELGAE&mdash;aimed at advancing renewable fuel technologies. Attendees were introduced to the main concepts, ambitions, and methodologies behind these innovative European initiatives. The event was structured in six parts, including presentations on non-biological algal renewable fuels, detailed discussions on each project, and a Q&amp;A session.</p> <p>The webinar was moderated by Pablo Morales Moya from Sustainable Innovations (SIE), and featured a presentation from Javier S&aacute;nchez L&oacute;pez of CINEA, who discussed the agency&rsquo;s role in supporting climate, infrastructure, and environmental initiatives. Following the introductory segments, the spotlight shifted to the project coordinators. Charis Xiros from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden presented the ALFAFUELS project, Sary Awad from IMT Atlantique showcased the COCPIT project, and Silvia Morales de la Rosa from CSIC presented the FUELGAE project. Each coordinator provided insights into their project&rsquo;s objectives, impacts, and collaborative efforts.</p> <p>Participants had the opportunity to learn about groundbreaking renewable fuel solutions and their potential for carbon capture. The event underscored the importance of European collaboration in tackling environmental challenges through innovative research and development. CD5 index of works published in the period 1945-2018

<p>The xz-compressed data file (2.7 GiB uncompressed) contains 44,008,797 records&nbsp; comprising two fields separated by a "|" character:</p> <ol> <li>Publication DOI</li> <li>Five-year consolidation / disruption (CD₅) index (when available)</li> </ol> <p>The data set was derived from the <a href="https://www.crossref.org/blog/2024-public-data-file-now-available-featuring-new-experimental-formats/">Crossref 2024 public data file</a> using&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/dspinellis/alexandria3k">Alexandria3k</a> and <a href="https://github.com/dspinellis/fast-cdindex">fast-cdindex</a>.
