Latin American and Caribbean journals indexed in Google Scholar Metrics
<p>Dataset from a study aiming to analyze the coverage of Latin American and Caribbean journals in Google Scholar Metrics (GSM). Data from 8,205 journals from 24 countries of the region were downloaded from Latindex database. A Python script was used for automated title search and data extraction (titles, h5-index, h5-median, URLs) in GSM. For the journals not found, a manual search was carried out, with attempts by variations of the title. It was found 3,070 journals indexed in GSM, which corresponds to 37.42% of the Latindex list. The search was performed on the 2021 edition of GSM, which considers articles published between 2016 and 2020 and citations registered until July 2021. The number of all types of documents published (productivity) in the h5-index period (2016-2020) in Scopus, Journal Citation Reports, and SciELO of 1,314 journals was also identified. </p> <p>The present dataset is the result of this study, which is under peer-review in a scientific journal. </p> <p>The dataset comprises titles, h5-index; h5-median, URLs of 3,070 publications from Latin America and the Caribbean identified in Google Scholar Metrics, and the respective editorial information of the publications was extracted from Latindex</p> <p>The original language of the content was kept, mainly Spanish in the case of editorial data from Latindex. The columns descriptors are also shown in English.</p> <p>The productivity data refer to the number of all types of documents published by the journals in the period 2016-2020. Data were extracted from the InCities Journal Citation Reports, Scopus, and SciELO Citation Index (Web of Science database).</p> <p>In this version 2, only the productivity data were changed, covering a larger number of journals (1,314) and including all types of documents. Which journal characteristics are crucial for scientists when selecting journals for their publications? Results tables of an online survey
<p>As part of the BMBF-funded project "B!SON - Bibliometric and Semantic Open Access Recommender Network", an online survey was conducted among scientists using SoSci Survey (Leiner, 2019). The aim of the survey was to determine the importance of various characteristics of scientific journals in the decision for a publication venue by scientists. The characteristics were determined by analysis of other recommender systems, literature research and discussion with scientists. The data published here are based on 884 completed questionnaires (only questionnaires in which at least 90% of the questions had been answered were included in the analysis).</p> <p>In the questionnaire, a distinction was made between those characteristics that scientists would like to use to limit the selection of eligible journals from the outset (table "B!SON_Survey_Filter_Criteria_EN") and those that scientists need for their final decision from a list of recommended journals ("B!SON_Survey_Journal_Selection_EN"). For each journal property, the respondents could choose between the categories of a 5-point Likert scale: "not at all important - not very important - somewhat important - very important - extremely important". If the scientists were not able to evaluate a characteristic, they could also select "I can't say". </p> <p>In the two tables of results, the approval percentage and the rank based on it are listed for all journal properties queried in the respective part of the survey. The approval percentage is calculated from the percentage of people who rated the respective property as "very important" or "extremely important". Approval rate and rank are presented across all respondents (overall column), as well as within the 4 science disciplines by DFG (Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences) and the category "Other Sciences".</p> <p>Both tables can be sorted by approval rate and rank per scientific discipline or across disciplines.</p> <p>Note on the use of the HTML files: These can be downloaded via the download button and then opened and viewed with any web browser.</p> <p>A German version of the results tables is available under <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5412197">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5412197</a>.</p>

GBIF is one of the main reusers of the data, providing specific access to the material citations and making them FAIR. Finally, scientists reuse data from within GBIF for their research, for example new revisions, which then become incorporated in the liberation process, thus closing the research life cycle.

Biomedical journals covered and uncovered in PubMed
<p>PubMed contains many biomedical journals, but is this the full range of biomedical journals?</p> <p>We compared PubMed with MAG and found that there are many journals that are not included in PubMed. In addition, we found that even for the biomedical journals covered by PubMed, there are many articles under the covered journals not found in PubMed. Datasets for "Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Authors and Reviewers of American Geophysical Union Journals"
<p>These files include summary data on demographics of people submitting journal articles and reviewing manuscripts submitted to American Geophysical Union (AGU) journals. The date range is January 2018 through February 2021, divided by two years before the pandemic and during the pandemic ("year grouping"): March 2018- February 2019; March 2019- February 2020, and March 2020- February 2021 ("year of the COVID-19 pandemic"). Author-related files only include demographics of the submitting, or "corresponding" author. These datasets supplement the under-review manuscript and pre-print submission to ESSOAr (Earth and Space Science Open Archive) "Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Authors and Reviewers of American Geophysical Union Journals."</p> <p> </p>

<p>The last release, v0.9, wasn't caught by Zenodo for some unknown reason. Nothing has been changed since. The following release message has been copied from v0.9:</p> <p>As the mark-up of al-Ḥaqāʾiq has been complete for some time now and we are waiting for our scans to be processed at Halle for some three years now, we have decided to release a practically complete version. There have been a couple of maintenance edits over the last years to unify the set-up of editions across the entire project. Thus, the folder with TEI files was renamed tei/. Entity linked as also considerably improved, particularly for periodical titles.</p>
Reliability of citations of medRxiv preprints in articles published on COVID-19 in the world leading medical journals
<p>Articles published on COVID in 2020 in the BMJ, The Lancet, the JAMA and the NEJM were manually screened to identify all articles citing at least one preprint from medRxiv. We searched PubMed, Google and Google Scholar to assess if the preprint had been published in a peer-reviewed journal, and when. Published articles were screened to assess if the title, data or conclusions were identical to the preprint version.</p>

<p>This is the supplemental data, figures, and tables for <em>The Voices of Medical Education Science: Describing the Landscape</em>. This also includes the author thesaurus and institution thesaurus with supporting read me files. </p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong> </p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Medical education has been described as a dynamic and growing field, driven in part by its unique body of scholarship. The voices of authors who publish medical education literature have a powerful impact on the discourses of the community. While there have been numerous studies looking at aspects of this literature, there has been no comprehensive view of recent publications.</p> <p>Method</p> <p>The authors conducted a bibliometric analysis of all articles published in 24 medical education journals published between 2000-2020 to identify article characteristics, with an emphasis on author gender, geographic location, and institutional affiliation. This study replicates and greatly expands on two previous investigations by examining all articles published in these core medical education journals. </p> <p>Results </p> <p>The journals published 37,263 articles with the most articles published in 2020 (n=3,957, 10.7%) and least in 2000 (n=711, 1.9%) representing a 456.5% increase. The articles were authored by 139,325 authors of which 62,708 were unique. Men were more prevalent across all authorship positions (n=62,828; 55.7%) than women (n=49,975; 44.3%). Authors listed 154 country affiliations with the United States (n=42,236, 40.4%), United Kingdom (n=12,967, 12.4%), and Canada (n=10,481, 10.0%) most represented. Ninety-three countries (60.4%) were low- or middle-income countries accounting for 9,684 (9.3%) author positions. Few articles were written by multinational teams (n=3,765; 16.2%). Authors listed affiliations with 4,372 unique institutions. Across all author positions, 48,189 authors (46.1%) were affiliated with institutions ranked globally as Top 200 institutions by the Times Higher Education ranking. </p> <p>Discussion </p> <p>There is a relative imbalance of author voices in medical education. If the field values a diversity of perspectives, there is considerable opportunity for improvement.</p>
Data to "Evidence for the evolution of eusociality in stem ants and a systematic revision of †Gerontoformica (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)" published in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society
<p>These are the µCT Datasets used in the study "Evidence for the evolution of eusociality in stem ants and a systematic revision of †<em>Gerontoformica</em> (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)" published in the Zoological Journal of the linnean society.<br> In the study, an amber piece containing 4 specimens of the stem ant genus †<em>Gerontoformica </em>was investigated, one of them being a pupa belonging to †<em>G. gracilis</em> (CASENT0741231), one adult belonging to †<em>G. gracilis</em> (CASENT0741232) and two adults of the newly described species †<em>G. sternorhabda</em> (CASENT0741233 and CASENT0741234). The adult specimen of †<em>G. gracilis</em> (CASENT0741232) had exception internal preservation, so higher magnification scans for anatomical details were performed. The dataset includes full body scans of all of these individuals, adjusted datasets in which the adult specimens were segmented out of the amber matrix (used for the volume renderings in the article) and the two head focused scans of †<em>G. gracilis</em> (CASENT0741232). The scanning parameters can be taken from the uploaded Scans Metadata Excel file, which is also part of the supplementary material of the related article. The two adult scans of †<em>G. sternorhabda</em> (CASENT0741233 and CASENT0741234) are in DICOM file format, all other data are in TIFF image format.</p>
