Data from: Numerical analyses of seed morphology and its taxonomic significance in the tribe Nigelleae (Ranunculaceae)
In this study, the seed morphology of the taxa Nigella, Garidella, and Komaroffia were examined to provide systematic knowledge about the tribe Nigelleae. The seeds of 21 taxa in 20 species from Mediterranean and West Asian countries were studied using both zoom stereo and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and Unweighted average linkage analysis (UPGMA) were performed to assess the contribution of seed characters to defining the taxonomy of the tribe. Representative pictures from zoom stereo microscopy and SEM studies and measurement of seeds were prepared. Seed shape and color are controversy with proposed generic level of the tribe. Macromorphological characters have importance at sectional level rather than generic level. Five main types of seed ornemantations– rugulose+striate, granulate, smooth, rugulose and mucronulate‐ were detected. Patterns in seed micromorphology, however, mainly supported taxonomic relationships at sectional treatment in Nigella and two of the three sections are well differentiated based on only seed characters. Seed morphology alone provide good support to Garidella as a distinct species, but it shows less taxonomic value for Komaroffia. Distinct seed shape, size, and surface sculpturing separated studied taxa into five main groups.
Data from: Experimental and numerical investigations on spray characteristics of fatty acid methyl esters
The comparative experimental and numerical study is conducted to establish the significance of the use of single component over the multi-component representative of the biodiesel, diesel and their blend for predicting the spray tip penetration. The single component representatives of biodiesel, methyl oleate and methyl laurate and for the diesel are n-heptane, n-dodecane and n-tetradecane are studied. The methyl laurate is found to represent biodiesel of coconut, whereas methyl oleate is found to represent biodiesel having high percentage of long-chain fatty acid esters. The spray tip penetration of methyl oleate is found to be in good agreement with the measured spray tip penetration of karanja biodiesel. The spray tip penetration prediction of n-heptane fuel is closely following diesel spray tip penetration along with that of n-tetradecane and n-dodecane. The study suggests that the knowledge of the single component representative of biodiesel, diesel and their blend is sufficient to predict the spray tip penetration of the corresponding biodiesel, diesel and their blend under non-evaporating environment.
Data from: Combining micro-volume isotope analysis and numerical simulation to reproduce fish migration history
1. Tracking the movement of migratory fish is of great importance for efficient conservation, although this has been technically difficult to achieve in small fish to which artificial tags cannot be attached. 2. We show that migration history can be reproduced by combining high-resolution otolith stable oxygen isotope ratio (δ18O) analysis and numerical simulation. 3. High-precision micro-milling and micro-volume carbonate analysing systems had the remarkable capability of extracting the otolith δ18O profiles with 10–30 days resolution. Furthermore, reasonable movements were reproduced by searching the routes consistent with the otolith δ18O profile, using an individual-based model with random swimming behaviour. 4. This method will be a valuable alternative to tagging and electronic loggers for revealing migration routes in early life stages, thereby providing crucial information to understand population structures and the environmental cause of recruitment variabilities, and to validate and improve fish movement models.

Master's Thesis: 2D Numerical Simulations of Shallow Crustal Magma Bodies
<p>This collection of videos showcases a series of simulations conducted during my master’s thesis. The videos illustrate the evolution of temperature, water, and silica parameter fields, highlighting the internal dynamics within the systems. Key processes captured include whole-system convection, system overturn, plume formation, drip formation, and layering at the base of the systems. Additionally, two of the videos present Harker plots of the major oxides: one from the closed-system reference scenario, which contained a single magma composition, and the other from the open-system simulation, which included two magma compositions.</p>

Experimental and numerical investigations into the influence of temperature on the permeability of hydrate-bearing sediments
<p>Induced by heat injection and climate change, temperature change in hydrate reservoir significantly affects the permeability. A combination of experimental tests and fluid-mechanical-thermal coupling simulations is applied to investigate the temperature influence. The numerical and experimental data is listed here. Results show that the permeability decreases with increasing temperature with a quadratic function relation. Moreover, higher hydrate saturation will promote this reduction. In principle, the increase of temperature leads to linear narrowing of pore throats, further causes the quadratic function relation between permeability and temperature. Higher hydrate saturation will increase the thermal expansion and reduce the initial size of pore throats, which results in a more significant temperature sensitivity. The reduction of permeability may affect the advancement of decomposition front and the release of methane into atmosphere. Accordingly, a theoretical model is developed to describe the permeability-temperature relation, which offers a support for production estimation and environmental assessment.</p>

Consistent ground surface temperature records for the CMA stations over China for 1956–2022 via numerical simulation
<p>The ground surface represents the land-atmosphere interface and plays a crucial role in exchanging energy, matter, and biochemical fluxes. The ground surface temperature (Ts) is hence widely investigated as an indicator to understand the thermal state of soil in a warming world. However, regular and continuous Ts measurements are rare worldwide, and the early Ts records were derived from snow surface measurements and are not comparable with the measurements of the modern automatic systems. In this dataset, we reconstructed the Ts records of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) for 1956–2022 by numerical simulation.</p>

Impact of Training Instance Selection on Automated Algorithm Selection Models for Numerical Black-box Optimization -- Reproducibility Files
<p>This repository contains the files to reproduce the results from the paper "Impact of Training Instance Selection on Automated Algorithm Selection Models for Numerical Black-box Optimization".</p> <p>Data Collection</p> <p>In this folder, all files used to generate the raw performance data for the set of algorithms are included, as well as the code used to generate the ELA features. For the performance, the packages 'ioh', 'nevergrad', 'modde' and 'modcma' are essential, while 'pflacco' is used for ELA. For all scripts in this folder, the number of parallel threads and the folders for reading function settings (included as 3 csv files in this folder) and storing data should be set before execution. </p> <p>Note that the full performance data exceeds 50GB, so it is not included in this repository. Instead, the results of processing it (using the aocc_extraction script) are included in the 'auc_MABBOB' folder (spread across multiple csv-files, with a version using a different budget factor included as well).</p> <p>The ELA data is included as 'ELA' and 'ELA_BBOB' for the affine combinations and component functions respectively. </p> <p>Data Processing, Analysis and Visualization</p> <p>The remaining reproducibility files can be found in the Reproducibility folder. Within this folder are several notebooks which handle various steps in the pipeline, starting with preprocessing the data collected in the previous steps. This results in some csv-files, which are also included for convenience. Afterwards, the remaining notebooks deal with correlation analysis, instance selection methods, and all included plots from the paper. To match the environment used during our execution of these scripts. a yml-file (to be used with conda or mamba) is available as well. </p>
