Industrial and Smallholder Oil Palm Plantation Expansion in Indonesia from 2001 to 2019
<p>The dataset contains wall-to-wall maps of the annual expansion of industrial and smallholder oil palm plantations from 2001 to 2019 generated from interpretation of annual LANDSAT composites, SPOT-6 and UAV imagery.</p> <p>We define an oil palm plantation as an area of land planted with oil palm trees (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.). </p> <p>Industrial plantations are intensively managed large-scale, typically covering several thousand hectares of land, plantations owned by companies. They exhibit distinctive linear boundaries while harvesting trails are laid out in grids on level land or follow contours on hilly terrain. Smallholder plantations are typically smaller — < 25 hectares according to government definition — although wealthy individuals sometimes own several hundred hectares — and their spatial patterns are less consistent. Smallholder landscapes sometimes form a mixed mosaic with one or more other crops and types of landcover , or a large homogeneous landscape , or resemble industrial plantings though generally smaller and with less consistent structure.</p> <p>The datasets are in shapefile format with the following columns:</p> <p><strong>Year:</strong> The year an area was converted to oil palm. This is the year an area of either Forest or Non-Forest transitioned to either industrial or smallholder oil palm.</p> <p><strong>Class:</strong> The type of plantation that exists as of year 2019. Class has category: ‘IOPP’ for Industrial Oil Palm Plantation or 'Smallholder'.</p> <p><strong>Gridcode:</strong> A code for the year the annual <em>Tree Loss</em> dataset (version 1.7) - developed at University of Maryland (Hansen et al. 2013) - recorded a loss, and whether this is loss of trees in the forest or loss of non-forested trees. This column can be ignored.</p> <ul> <li><strong>1xx :</strong> Year forest loss detected, where xx represents the last 2 digits of the year (from 2001 to 2019) when the loss happened. For example, 105 indicates forest loss in 2005.</li> <li><strong>300 :</strong> Non-forest since 2000.</li> <li><strong>3xx :</strong> Year tree (non-forest) loss detected, where xx represents the last 2 digits of the year (from 2001 to 2019) when the loss happened. For example, 305 indicates tree loss in 2005 in non-forest areas with trees.</li> </ul> <p><strong>F2000 to F2019:</strong> The annual land cover types (Forest or Non forest) that existed before oil palm plantations replaced them.</p> <p><strong>TDelay :</strong> The time delay (in number of years) beween the year an area lost its forest cover and the year it was developed as a plantation. If Tdelay = 0, the area was developed as a plantation in the same calendar year that it lost forest cover, or the area was already not forest in 2000.</p> <p><strong>CompDriven</strong> : The year an area was developed as a plantation and lost its forest cover. We reasoned that industrial plantations developed in the same year as forest clearance are likely to be responsible for that clearance, hence the term Company-driven deforestation. Rapid increase in China's industrial ammonia emissions: evidence from unit-based mapping
<p>Ammonia (NH<sub>3</sub>) is an important precursor of secondary inorganic aerosols and greatly impacts nitrogen deposition and acid rain. Previous studies have mainly focused on the agricultural NH<sub>3</sub> emissions, while recent research has noted that industrial sources could be significant in China. However, detailed estimates of NH<sub>3</sub> emitted from industrial sectors in China are lacking. Here we established an unprecedented high-spatial-resolution dataset of China's industrial NH<sub>3</sub> emissions using up-to-date measurements of NH<sub>3</sub> and point source-level information covering eight major industries and 27 subdivided process categories. We found that China emitted 798 (90% confidence interval: 668–933) gigagrams of industrial NH<sub>3</sub> to the atmosphere in 2019, equivalent to 44±20% of the industrial emissions worldwide; this flux is three-fold larger than that in 1998 and has fluctuated since 2014. Furthermore, although fertilizer production is responsible for approximately half of the emissions in China, the emissions from cement production and coal-fired power plants increased dramatically from near zero to 164 and 41 gigagrams, respectively, in the past two decades, primarily due to the NH<sub>3</sub> escape caused by the large-scale application of the denitration process. Our results reveal that, unlike other major air pollutants, China's industrial NH<sub>3</sub> emission control is still in a critical period, and stricter NH<sub>3</sub> emission standards and innovation in pollution control technologies are highly desirable.</p>

Assessment of entrepreneurial competences of Industrial Engineering Students: Post-COVID19 results
<p>The file contained are results of the research on the Entrepreneurial Competences of Industrial Engineering students at the University of Novi Sad. The research is conducted in the course of Reliability of Technical Systems and Maintenance. The students are enrolled in the 3rd graduate year at the module Industrial Engineering. The study is conducted during the winter semester of 2021-2022. The study explores entrepreneurial competences by using the EntreComp Reference Framework as a research instrument. The dataset contains students' responses, Fold change, Wilcoxon rank test and PLS-DA statistical test analysis. In addition, all three analysis included contain graphs and plots included, VIP plot and analysis and associated results. The writting of the study is performed during April of 2022.</p>

Change in gender roles as a factor in gender participation and empowerment in the oil mining industry: A case of Lokichar, Turkana county, Kenya
<p><span>This paper analyses a study done by the authors of this paper on changes on gender role as a factor in <em>gender participation and empowerment in the oil mining industry; a case of Lokichar in Turkana County</em>. The paper centres on three null hypothesis tested.</span> <span>The studies target group was the active </span>labour<span> force aged between 15 to 64 years. Those who retired from work were also targeted. The data was collected from a sample of three hundred (300) respondents selected through systematic random and purposive sampling methods. Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and in-depth interviews were conducted to supplement the questionnaires given to the sampled respondents. Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses. Major findings indicate that there is a relationship between</span> equal hiring and equal opportunity for men <span>and women to work in mining activities; </span>there is relationship between involvement in oil mining activities and change in livelihood and there is no relationship between involvement in oil mining activities and equal opportunity for men and women to work in mining activities<span>. Key recommendation include gender mainstreaming in legal frameworks, policies, Bills and programs.</span></p>
