Lion of Al-lāt
This 1st century AD statue made of limestone ashlar with 3,5 m height and 15 tonnes weight belonged to the temple of pre-islamic goddess Al-lāt in Palmyra. The lion symbolizes the consort of Al-lāt and the gazelle the love and tenderness. This is a special fountain because you can ask for wishes but only in a specific manner: You have to touch the lion with only one hand - start by saying "Mr. Lion I really want..." - and dont tell anyone about the wish until it was granted. He purchased the Pocé-sur-Cisse estate iron foundry in 1829 and it became one of the largest art foundries in France until Ducel's death. In 1878 the foundry home was purchased by Val d'Osne who carried on selling Ducel's patterns.
