Provenance and Tectonic Implications of Upper Neoproterozoic-Lower Paleozoic Sedimentary Rocks in the Yidun Terrane, Eastern Tibetan Plateau
<p>The Yidun Terrane, sandwiched between the Qiangtang and Songpan-Ganze terranes, hosts important information in the tectonic evolution of the eastern Tibetan Plateau. However, its tectonic link with adjacent terranes and East Gondwana remains equivocal. Here, we present detrital zircon U-Pb-Hf isotope data from the upper Neoproterozoic-lower Paleozoic clastic rocks in the Yidun Terrane. The results show that detrital zircons from the Neoproterozoic rocks are mainly of ca. 821 – 890 Ma, 1714 – 1977 Ma, and 2317 – 2520 Ma, with ε<sub>Hf</sub>(t) values of each group comparable to coeval magmatic rocks in the nearby South China Block. This suggests that the Yidun Terrane and South China were possibly connected at that time, with the latter being the main detrital provenance. In contrast, the five Paleozoic samples have markedly different detrital zircon age spectra at ca. 2600 – 2300 Ma, 1100 – 900 Ma, 900 – 740 Ma, and 690 – 480 Ma, which were interpreted to have derived from Pan-African and Grenville-age provinces in the East Gondwana, as well as the South China Block and Songpan-Ganze Terrane. Such major provenance change suggests that after prolonged isolation in the Proto-Tethys, the Yidun Terrane began to collide with the East Gondwana in the early Paleozoic. Integrated with published works, we consider that the Yidun Terrane has close tectonic link with the Yangtze Block, and that it was located on the northeastern margin of the India Plate during the early Paleozoic.</p>

<p><span>Cooperative breeding (CB) has recently become hot research topic in the field of evolution of animal behavior. However, while CB-related factors have been identified at the species and individual level separately, few studies have used both large- and fine-scale effects to demonstrate CB-related tradeoffs. Here, we propose a "resource gain-fitness loss" model that addresses this question and applied it to the Tibetan azure-winged magpie during their colonization of a high-altitude (i.e., harsh) habitat. We found that CB occurrence decreased with time after colonization and during the breeding season. The decrease coincided with increasing nest security as the threat of predation decreased. Along the same timeline, the relatedness of helpers to the opposite-sexed breeder shifted from kin to non-kin. Cooperative breeders allocated parentage among their social mate, helpers, and outgroup extra-pair mates, with extra-pair mates obtaining larger reproductive shares over time during colonization, indicating that CB facilitated genetic polygamy in the Tibetan population. Male breeders provisioned less with increased female reproductive skew, whereas female breeders' provisioning rates did not change with male reproductive skew. It appeared that CB occurrence at the population and individual levels were both driven by the same selective force, nest predation, which decreased when other strategies of ensuring nest security were manifested, such as cooperative neighborhoods due to extra-pair copulations. Moreover, our findings suggested the reproductive skew strategy is not a fixed characteristic of the population, but a condition-dependent characteristic of individuals.</span></p>

Spatial variability of stable isotopes in river water over the Tibetan Plateau
<p>Stable isotopes dataset for the manuscript "Spatial variability of stable isotopes in river water over the Tibetan Plateau". </p> <p>This dataset includes 437 new available isotopic data of river water firstly sampled from May 2013 to July 2016 covering eight great river basins over the TP, including the Upper Ganges, Upper Brahmaputra, Upper Mekong, Upper Salween, Upper Indus, Upper Yangtze, Upper Yellow, and the Endorheic Rivers. River water isotopic date from twelve previous studies are also complied, including 1178 samples with both δ<sup>18</sup>O and δD values, 231 with only δ<sup>18</sup>O values and 6 with only δD values. All data used in this study are accompanied by geographical information.</p>
