Optical properties of monolayer and multilayer 1T' WTe2 calculated by density functional theory

We investigate the optical properties of monolayer, bilayer, trilayer, and quadrilayer WTe2 in the 1T' crystal phase by ab-initio calculations based on spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT). We used the Vasp package to calculate the real and imaginary part of the dielectric function, the real and imaginary part of the refractive index, as well as the optical absorbance from 0 eV to 5 eV and for different crystal directions.

Gradients4-TN397-Optics-LISST-ACS-ECO_2022-04-07

Cruise Name: Gradients 4 , TN397

Vessel: R/V Thompson

Funding: Simons Collaboration on Ocean Processes and Ecology (SCOPE)

Dataset description:

This dataset was collected on the R/V Thompson during the Gradients IV cruise which departed from San Diego, CA and ended in Honolulu, HI. A transect was performed on the 140 degree longitude line from roughly 19 degrees N to 2.5 degrees S before heading to Honolulu. Three biooptical instruments were plumbed to the underway uncontaminated seawater (intake depth 8m). Data for each instrument were averaged to the minute and matched to a timestamp on the minute. LISST: Filtered values (<0.2 um) removed from all data. The summed volume concentration of particles (in uL/L), the standard LISST output, is presented for 3 size ranges: 1.25-2 µm, 2-20 µm, and 20-100 µm. Particle volume concentration can be converted to particle concentration by assuming spherical particles. Larger size classes are excluded due to low detection limits and scattering at density gradients. Note that data have not been processed to remove outliers. AC-S: Filtered values (<0.2 um) removed from all data (see White et al., 2017, GRL); data corrected for residual temperature and scattering; AC-S chl a concentrations obtained from a Gaussian fit over absorbance spectra in the red portion of the spectrum, assuming in vivo chl-a specific absorption of 0.0203 m2/mg at 674 nm. ECO: filtered values (<0.2 um) removed from chl and volume scattering data; chl fluorescence converted to mg/m3 using factory calibrations, and corrected to HPLC chlorophyll values. CDOM not included due to faulty channel.

Optical motion capturing of change of direction motions reconstructed with inverse kinematics and dynamics and optimal control simulation

This is the data belonging to the publication "Change the direction: 3D optimal control simulation by directly tracking marker and ground reaction force data".

This study investigated the feasibility and accuracy of reconstructing, especially change of direction motions with a 3D full-body musculoskeletal model by tracking marker and ground reaction force (GRF) data in optimal control simulations. We recorded in total 30 trials with optical motion capture. Using this data, we compared inverse methods (inverse kinematics and dynamics) to coordinate tracking simulations and marker tracking simulations.

Please see the README and the publication for further details.

Experimental data: Low-velocity out-of-plane impact tests on double-wythe unreinforced brick masonry walls instrumented with optical measurements

This dataset includes the results of laboratory impact tests conducted on natural-scale double-wythe unreinforced brick masonry walls. The walls were spanning vertically between two reinforced concrete slabs and were subjected to low-velocity drop-weight pendulum tests in which they were repeatedly hit until the opening of a breach in the center of the wall. The tests were instrumented with both hard-wired and optical measurements, the latter consisting of high-speed cameras and digital image correlation techniques. Investigated in these tests were the out-of-plane response of the walls and their capacity to resist the impacts. The axial load applied on the top of the walls was varied for two wall configurations and monitored throughout the tests to study the effect of arching on the failure mechanism produced and number of repeated hits needed to open the breach. Of interest was also the evidence of cracking, more specifically the way it initiated on the undamaged walls and next propagated upon consecutive hits.

The data generated from the tests is made here available and documented to support further investigations on masonry structures subjected to extreme actions. The dataset includes four ZIP files, ordered from 01 to 05, along with an auxiliary PDF document describing the content and organization of the data.

Test implementation and test results that are built upon this data are presented and discussed in the following research article:

Godio M, Flansbjer M, Williams Portal N (2023) Low-velocity out-of-plane impact tests on double-wythe unreinforced brick masonry walls instrumented with optical measurements, International Journal of Impact Engineering

To cite this data in your work please refer to the article.

The Authors

Gait behavioral and neuromuscular characterization in response to increasing working memory load while walking under optic flow perturbations in young adults

The precise role of cognitive control on optic flow processing during locomotion has rarely been investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether coping with unreliable visual inputs during walking requires attentional resources. Twenty-four healthy young adults walked on an instrumented treadmill in a virtual environment under two optic flow conditions: normal (NOF) and perturbed (POF, continuous mediolateral pseudo-random oscillations). Each condition was performed under single-task and dual-task conditions of increasing difficulty (1-, 2-, 3-back). In all conditions, subjective mental workload was estimated (raw NASA-TLX). For kinematic variables, mean, standard deviation, statistical persistence and step-to-step error correction were computed from gait time series in mediolateral and anteroposterior directions. For EMG variables of soleus and gluteus medius, the full width at half maximum and the variance ratio were calculated. Performance on N-back tasks was assessed using mean reaction time and d-prime. Cognitive performance was not affected by simultaneous walking in any optic flow condition. Gait variability was altered under POF compared to NOF, so that young adults sought to counteract those perturbations by adopting an effortful gait control strategy, independently of concurrent working memory (WM) load. Increasing WM load led changes first at the neuromuscular level, then at the behavioral level, with a prioritization of gait control in the mediolateral direction. Interestingly, dual-tasking lowered the effects of POF but in the anteroposterior direction only. These findings and their theoretical implications provide valuable insight into the complex interaction effects of cognitive and visual constraints on gait control during treadmill walking.
