Leaves are distinctly succulent and their margins are variously adorned with shallow or deep indentations. Note the scattered brown spots on the leaf surface. B. It is the only known stoloniferous kalanchoe. C. The peduncle is slender and at first held erectly. Note the shark tooth-like, lateral outgrowths. D. The calyx is substantially fused into a globule-like tube. E. Flowers are distinctly or obscurely finely hairy. The adaxial surface of the corolla lobes of this light pinkish-flowered variant is longitudinally distinctly adorned with darker, purplish veins. F. FIGURE 2. Representatives of Kalanchoe subg. Calophygia Desc. emend. Gideon F.Sm. use a diverse range of vegetative and sexual reproductive strategies. Some of the vegetative strategies are shown here. A. Rhizomatous sprouts developing in the proximity of a specimen of K. beharensis that has not yet reached reproductive maturity. B. Plantlets developing from the proximal end of a turgid, severed leaf of K. rhombopilosa, type of K. sect. Rhombopilosae. The leaves of this species are easily shed. C. Plantlets developing on the inflorescence of K. bracteata. D. A cluster of plantlets sprouting at the proximal end of the petiole of a severed leaf of the non-tomentose variant of K. beharensis, which is generally known as "Kalanchoe beharensis var. subnuda" Jacobsen (1970: 250), nom. inval. This two-preparation specimen is here designated as the lectotype of the name K. ×kewensis Brown (1902 [14 June]: 387). FIGURE 1. Kalanchoe ×kewensis [Arabian material of K. bentii, i.e., K. bentii subsp. bentii, × K. glaucescens]. A. Plants are usually single-stemmed and can (rarely) reach a height of 1.2 m when in flower. B. Leaves are cylindrical-elongated to lanceolate, taper to both ends, and, at maturity, ± halfway up, have prominent, curved, harpoon-like, lateral outgrowths that point towards the leaf tips. C. In some specimens branching may take place from the base. D. Close-up of buds and a flower at anthesis. The sepals are flared away from the tube. The ovate to slightly obovate corolla lobes are uniformly bright vibrant pink, but could sometimes be adorned with narrow, white margins. E. Flowers often develop abnormally, for example with all four corolla lobes concentrated to one side of the apex of the corolla tube, or they deviate by being pentamerous, rather than tetramerous, the latter condition being prevalent virtually throughout in Kalanchoe. Such deviations in floral morphology are often found in hybrid kalanchoes. F. A plantlet that developed just below the desiccated inflorescence. G.
