<p>This is a demonstration that the inertial reference frames of the special theory of relativity are wrong when applied to the associated wave of a particle. It follows that the Earth must be surrounded by a media, which is the reference for all velocities on the surface of the Earth. The same media is of course surrounding all masses.</p>

Web decoration is important in mediating foraging site fidelity as well as prey availability and predation risk in an orb-web spider

<p>Animals may consider both biotic and abiotic factors in foraging site choice. Among the biotic factors, food availability and predation risk are two widely reported important factors in determining foraging site fidelity. Their earlier investments, such as those retreat-building species' efforts in retreats construction, however, have been largely ignored. The orb-web spider <em>Cyclosa monticola</em> constructs a long column of masquerading detritus decoration in its web for predator avoidance purpose. This detritus decoration also functions as a retreat. However, the role of the detritus decoration for its foraging site fidelity is unknown. By manipulating three factors, presence of detritus decoration, prey availability, and predation risk to the spider webs in the field, we show that the self-constructed detritus decoration is as important as prey availability and predation risk in mediating web site fidelity. In addition, the web area also has a significant impact to the foraging site fidelity of the spider, those with larger webs were more likely to leave after being manipulated. However, other factors such as spider body size, decoration length, and rain all have no significant impact. Our study may strengthen the current understanding of the movement and foraging of animals, especially those building retreats.</p>

Nature and well-being: The association of nature engagement and well-being during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic

<p><span>1. </span><span>Numerous studies have shown the positive association between nature engagement and well-being. During the early phases of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, nature engagement changed dramatically as mental health and well-being declined across the globe.</span></p> <p><span>2. </span><span>This study examines how psychological connection to nature and engagement with nature in various forms is associated with well-being during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Specifically, we examine which types of nature engagement (i.e., with nearby nature, through nature excursions, and media-based) are more strongly associated with well-being based on measures of loneliness, rumination, pandemic emotional impact, and mental health.</span></p> <p><span>3. </span><span>We employed a cross-sectional online survey of adults (N=3,282) residing in the United States, 25% of whom report seldom spending time in nature.</span></p> <p><span>4. </span><span>Our findings revealed that the psychological construct of connection to nature was associated with less loneliness and greater mental health. Overall, nature engagement was a consistent predictor of well-being, but different types of activities predicted varying outcomes on our four dependent variables. Greater engagement with nearby nature during the pandemic was associated with less rumination, less pandemic emotional impact, and better mental health while nature excursions (e.g., camping, backpacking) and media-based nature engagement were associated with greater loneliness, more emotional impact from the pandemic, and worse mental health. Additionally, nature engagement via media was associated with greater rumination.</span></p> <p><span>5. </span><span>Our findings suggest that promoting opportunities to increase engagement with and access to nearby nature is associated with better human well-being, especially during challenging events, and should be part of a </span>multi-pronged approach for coping with the next public health crisis<span>.</span></p>

Translation and validation of the Body-Mind-Spirit Wellness Behavior and Characteristic Inventory in the Greek language

<p>This investigation was guided by Hettler&#39;s 1979 Six Dimensions of Wellness Model. Dimensions of physical, emotional, intellectual, occupational, social, and spiritual wellness were identified. The Body-Mind-Spirit Wellness Behavior and Characteristic Inventory was used to assess this (BMS-WBCI). The purpose of this study was to further validate the BMS-WBCI by reporting reliability as the scale&#39;s internal consistency when used to measure wellness in a sample of aged Greek people. a descriptive cross-sectional design was&nbsp;used for the sample collection. A random sample (n =520) from the Greek general population participated voluntarily and anonymously in the study&nbsp;including&nbsp;28,8% males and 71,2% females.&nbsp; Their mean age of the sample was 39.86 years&nbsp;(SD = 10.5), ranging from 16 to 75 years .The BMS-WBCI consists of 44 items which are divided into three subscales (Hey, Calderon, &amp; Carroll, 2006). The first subscale is labeled &ldquo;<strong>body</strong>&rdquo; and consists of nine items (items 1 &ndash; 9) relating to risk behaviors including physical fitness, personal safety and dietary intake, covering the physical domain of wellness. The second subscale is labeled &ldquo;<strong>mind</strong>&rdquo; and consists of 20 items (items 10 &ndash; 29) representing the intellectual, social, emotional, and occupational domains of wellness. Finally, the third subscale is labeled &ldquo;<strong>spirit</strong>&rdquo; and consists of 15 items (items 30 &ndash; 44) covering the spiritual, emotional, and occupational domains of wellness. Each of the 44 items asks the participant to respond on a 3-point Likert scale where 1 indicates &ldquo;rare/seldom,&rdquo; 2 &ldquo;occasionally/sometimes,&rdquo; and 3 &ldquo;often/always.&rdquo; Possible scores for the entire scale range from a minimum of 44 to a maximum of 132. Higher scores designate a higher level of participation in positive health behaviors and agreement with characteristics that contribute to overall well-being.&nbsp;</p>

Level statistics and entanglement entropy of Rydberg dressed bosons in a triple-well potential

<p>We study the signatures of quantum chaos in Rydberg dressed bosonic atoms held in a 1&nbsp;triple-well potential. Dynamics of the bosons&nbsp;are governed by an extended Bose-Hubbard model (EBHM) where long-range nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor&nbsp;interactions are induced by&nbsp;laser coupling the ground state to Rydberg state. We analyze the level statistics of the EBHM for finite&nbsp;number N of atoms through numerical diagonalization. In the presence of a tilting potential, the&nbsp;level statistics are Poissonian distribution for weak dressed interaction. It becomes a Wigner-Dyson&nbsp;distribution for strong interaction, signifying the emergence of&nbsp;quantum chaos. A hybrid distribution&nbsp;is obtained when the dressed interaction is much stronger than the hopping rate. Using the Fock&nbsp;basis, we further calculate dynamical evolution of the entanglement entropy. The maximal value&nbsp;(upper bound) of the entanglement&nbsp;entropy is proved to depend on particle numbers in the form&nbsp;ln(N + 1). It is found that the maximum of the time-averaged entanglement entropy appears when&nbsp;the chaos is strong. The location of the maximum as a function of the dressed interaction and tilting&nbsp;potential is independent of atom number N.</p>
