Global Villages

Many people experience different cultures in simulated environments that put people and their ways of life on display for tourist-citizens of the world. Global Villages depicts ethnic theme parks of China and Japan. Theme park formations are imagined communities that reach beyond the borders of the thatched huts and park walls. While having fun together, tourists and performers also collaborate in the production of heritage, nation and world. Global Villages takes viewers from naïve enjoyment to reflexive understanding of the corporate and political agendas entailed in the display of people and culture, where things are not what they appear to be.

“Global Village is a fast-paced colourful view of ‘staged ethnicity’ in today’s Asian tourist villages. The film maker’s commentary is straightforward, illuminating contemporary questions about identity, display and authenticity. Equally interesting are the ‘emic’ insights by the local producers and performers interviewed for the film. Global Village is engaging and instructive for undergraduates and graduate students in anthropology, sociology, geography and visual culture who are studying tourism, media, globalization, and East Asia.”
Nelson Graburn,
Professor of Anthropology, U C Berkeley
Founding Member, International Academy for the Study of Tourism

Museum Village Düppel - House 1 - Palisade
[**Museum Village Düppel**](https://bit.ly/3q58lnq) is a seasonal open-air museum. It presents visitors with a reconstruction of an approximately 800-year-old village. The site of this former settlement has now been reconstructed with residences, storehouses, workshops, fields and gardens. 1967 marked the start of archaeological excavations in southwest Berlin. They revealed evidence of building foundations and farmyards of a village from the period just before 1200. Thanks to experimental archaeology, it was possible to rebuild the medieval village on the settlement's original site. The village has developed into a widely recognised centre for experimental archaeology. Digitized by the [HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences, Institute DE:HIVE](https://bit.ly/3cG7bug). Èze Village - France
Èze has been described as an "eagle's nest" because of its location overlooking a high cliff 427 metres (1,401 ft) above sea level on the French Mediterranean. It is so high that the light ochre church within (Notre Dame de l'Assomption built in 1764) can be seen from afar. An Egyptian cross inside the church suggests the village's ancient roots, when the Phoenicians erected a temple there to honour the goddess Isis - [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%88ze) Friedrich Nietzsche stayed in one of the oldest houses of Eze and found inspiration for his third part of "Thus spake Zarathoustra" while climbing to the village by the path. "Many hidden corners and quiets heights in the landscape of Nice were sanctified for me by unforgettable moments" said Frederic Nieztsche in Ecce homo about his first stay on the Riviera from the December 2nd, 1883 to April 20th, 1884 - [Èze Tourism](http://www.eze-tourisme.com/en/decouvrir-visiter-se-divertir-2/visit-eze/eze-seaside/83-uk-son-histoire.html) Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Boat in Kim Bong Carpentry Village
This is the vessel which we recorded ship-lines on. It was captured on 31/1/2018 using a Sony a6000 camera. 344 photos were processed in Agisoft Photoscan while in the field. A standard photo scale scale and a north arrow were placed in the starboard stern, there is also a 2m yellow scale lying along the port side on deck, and along the floor on the starboard side. Apart from a small hole on the port hull towards the bow, and right beneath the boat, the model appears complete, and appears to be relatively accurate. Tie points: 182,998. Just over 8 million points were processed into just under a million polygons, which were then textured and uploaded to Sketchfab. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
