IODP Expedition 396, Hole U1572A - Well Logging Data

Logging data are measurements of physical properties of the formation surrounding a borehole, acquired in situ after completion of coring (wireline logging) or during drilling (Logging-While-Drilling, LWD). The range of data (resistivity, gamma radiation, velocity, density, borehole images,…) in any hole depends on the scientific objectives and operational constraints.

Workplace bullying, emotional regulation self-efficacy and well-being.

Workplace bullying is one of the most relevant social stressors at work. Although previous research has shown its negative consequences on health and well-being, scarce evidence is available about the emotional mechanisms of this relationship. Thus, we conducted a longitudinal study. The final sample comprised 139 participants over 4 waves

Recognizing the importance of near-home contact with nature for mental well-being based on the COVID-19 lockdown experience

Several urban landscape planning solutions have been introduced around the world to find a balance between developing urban spaces, maintaining and restoring biodiversity, and enhancing quality of human life. Our global mini-review, combined with analysis of big data collected from Google Trends at global scale, reveals the importance of enjoying day-to-day contact with nature and engaging in such activities as nature observation and identification and gardening for the mental well-being of humans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Home-based activities, such as watching birds from one's window, identifying species of plants and animals, backyard gardening, and collecting information about nature for citizen science projects, were popular during the first lockdown in spring 2020, when people could not easily venture out of their homes. In our mini-review, we found 37 articles from 28 countries with a total sample of 114,466 people. These papers suggest that home-based engagement with nature was an entertaining and pleasant distraction that helped preserve mental well-being during a challenging time. According to Google Trends, interest in such activities increased during lockdown compared to the previous five years. Millions of people worldwide are chronically or temporarily confined to their homes and neighborhoods because of illness, childcare chores, or elderly care responsibility, which makes it difficult for them to travel far to visit such places as national parks, created through land sparing, where people go to enjoy nature and relieve stress. This article posits that for such people, living in an urban landscape designed to facilitate effortless contact with small natural areas is a more effective way to receive the mental health benefits of contact with nature than visiting a sprawling nature park on rare occasions.

Dataset for: Older adults' suggestions of research topics on ageing well in urban environments – a participatory study

Dataset related to the manuscript Older adults’ suggestions of research topics on ageing well in urban environments – a participatory study.

For this study, a total of 1000 participants aged 65 years or older from five different neighborhoods of Berlin were randomly chosen and were sent a single item questionnaire allowing them to freely propose research topics regarding ageing well in the city. This dataset contains the valid answers we received by participants. Only information that potentially allowed identification of the participants (name, addresses, exact location descriptions) were redacted.

Community attachment as a factor in the subjective well-being of older adults in urban and rural areas: A case study in Tokyo, Osaka, and Shikoku region in Japan

This study explored the relationship between community participation/community attachment and subjective well-being (SWB) among Japanese older adults. The study was conducted in Japanese urban (Tokyo and Osaka) and rural (Shikoku region) areas. Structural equation modelling was performed to assess the potential relationship between community participation, community attachment and SWB. Results showed that community participation and community attachment were positively associated in both areas. However, community attachment had a significant impact on SWB only in rural areas with little impact on increasing SWB in urban areas. We conclude that the role of community attachment varies according to regions with different socioeconomic properties. These findings contribute to the design of detailed region-specific initiatives to improve SWB of older adults.

Cocorite Farrell Well Field, Western Main Road

Charles Arthur Richards Farrell who was the first local City Engineer and not his son Harry Farrell as has been stated in Newsday twice during December. He was my grandfather. Charles Richards Farrell must be remembered for bringing potable water to the people of Trinidad & Tobago as well as for the building of beautiful pumping stations around the city which are now memories and one in Westpark, Cocorite. His grand-children remember being taken on many a Sunday afternoon drive to see the then functioning Pumping Station in Cocorite. They remember that there were three stations in all around the city, they remember being mesmerised by the huge, gleaming, brass fans and shiny fittings, the curiously shaped windows with curved window panes spotted with diamond shapes of brightly coloured glass; and they also remember the smooth patches of grass surrounding tall trees where they could play.
