Data from: Assessing the impacts of imperfect detection on estimates of diversity and community structure through multispecies occupancy modeling

Detecting all species in a given survey is challenging, regardless of sampling effort. This issue, more commonly known as imperfect detection, can have negative impacts on data quality and interpretation, most notably leading to false absences for rare or difficult‐to‐detect species. It is important that this issue be addressed, as estimates of species richness are critical to many areas of ecological research and management. In this study, we set out to determine the impacts of imperfect detection, and decisions about thresholds for inclusion in occupancy, on estimates of species richness and community structure. We collected data from a stream fish assemblage in Algonquin Provincial Park to be used as a representation of ecological communities. We then used multispecies occupancy modeling to estimate species‐specific occurrence probabilities while accounting for imperfect detection, thus creating a more informed dataset. This dataset was then compared to the original to see where differences occurred. In our analyses, we demonstrated that imperfect detection can lead to large changes in estimates of species richness at the site level and summarized differences in the community structure and sampling locations, represented through correspondence analyses.

ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF YOUTH INVOLVEMENT ON NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS: A STUDY ON THE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS LED BY YALLA YALLA GROUP (YYG) UNDER RAB-RWANDA

Despite economic progress, Rwanda faces challenges such as insufficient job creation and inadequate economic infrastructure, leading to persistent issues of unemployment and underemployment, particularly among the youth. In response to these challenges, Yalla Yalla Group (YYG), comprising young professionals, directs its efforts toward agriculture development projects. The research objectives encompass evaluating the effectiveness of YYG's projects, examining socio-economic benefits, assessing the impact on community development, and exploring potential barriers to success. The study population comprises 198 individuals actively involved in YYG projects, with a sample of 132 determined using Slovin's formula through convenient sampling. Quantitative data is collected through a structured questionnaire and statistical analyses, including SPSS and multiple linear regression, are employed to scrutinize hypotheses. The findings reveal a highly significant positive correlation (r = 0.977, p &lt; 0.01) between "country development" and "young people involvement," indicating a strong linear relationship. The F-statistic of 219.903 emphasizes that the predictors significantly explain variance in country development beyond chance. Specifically, the study highlights that increased involvement in agriculture is associated with higher levels of country development (coefficient: 0.506, t = 5.500, p &lt; 0.001), underscoring a positive relationship. Livestock involvement, while statistically significant (coefficient: 0.017, t = 0.097, p = 0.003), exhibits a limited impact on country development. In contrast, higher engagement in business and entrepreneurship significantly correlates with increased country development (coefficient: 0.919, t = 4.963, p &lt; 0.001), emphasizing a strong positive relationship. Data for Impact of nano-dopants on the mechanical and physical properties of magnesium oxychloride cement composites – experimental assessment

<p>The importance of the World&rsquo;s reduction of CO2 emissions is inevitable as CO2 is one of the main contributors to climate change. As the Portland cement (PC) industry is a non-negligible contributor to the World&rsquo;s CO2 emissions, a sustainable PC substitute must be implemented. Previous scientific studies suggest that magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) &ndash; an eco-friendly binder based on reactive magnesia &ndash; could be a suitable alternative. This contribution studies the influence of various nanoadditives on the mechanical and physical properties of MOC-based composites. The nanoadditives introduced to the MOC composite were the following: multi-walled carbon nanotubes, oxidized multi‑walled carbon nanotubes, graphene oxide, graphene nanoplatelets, and alumina nanosheets. Ahead of the composite preparation, the nanoadditives were analysed with a wide spectrum of analytical methods to study their composition and microstructure in detail. The used amount of nanoadditive was 1.0 wt.%, relative to the cement paste weight. After a curing period of 28 days, the prepared composite samples underwent a comprehensive analysis of their microstructure, phase, and chemical composition, as well as micro- and macrostructural parameters and mechanical properties. Additionally, the research studied the effects of nanoadditives on the hygric properties and water resistance of the MOC composites after 24-h immersion in water. The findings revealed a noteworthy increase in mechanical performance with the addition of nano-dopants. The highest compressive strength of 85.4 MPa was obtained for the MOC composite enriched with the addition of oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. MOC doped with alumina nanosheets exhibited the best flexural strength (20.99 MPa) and dynamic modulus of elasticity (38.85 GPa). The resistance of MOC composites to deterioration in water was also improved by all the nanoadditives investigated. The softening coefficient determined for samples immersed in water for 24 h varied from 62.7 to 74.8. The best resistance to water degradation was obtained for MOC with alumina nanoadditive, which showed a softening coefficient value about 23.2% higher than that of the reference sample. Thus, the incorporation of nanomaterials as functional nanoadditives in MOC-based composites shows promising advances in both mechanical properties and water resistance, contributing to the development of environmentally sustainable building materials.</p>
