Personality-mediated speed-accuracy tradeoffs in mating in a 17-year periodical cicada

There exists growing evidence that animal personality (consistent between individual differences in behavior) can influence an individual's fitness. Furthermore, limitations in behavioral plasticity may cause personality-mediated tradeoffs to occur, for example, between speed and accuracy in decision making. We explored whether various measures of personality could predict speed-accuracy tradeoffs in mate selection using Pharaoh cicadas (Magicicada septendecim) and examined the phenotypic traits predicting male mating performance and advertisement rates. We assessed whether male exploration behavior, boldness, and weight, could predict a male's overall copulation attempt rate (the number of attempted copulations with conspecifics of either sex), the number of errors a male made when selecting a mate (the number of same-sex copulation attempts), and male reproductive performance (whether a male successfully copulated with a female). We also assessed whether personality-dependent variation in male advertisement rate (the number of calling song bouts) might underpin the correlation between exploration behavior and mating performance. Although male exploration behavior did not predict male advertisement rate, we found that faster-exploring males exhibited higher overall rates of attempted copulations while also attempting more same-sex copulations, compared to slower-exploring males, suggesting a personality-mediated speed-accuracy tradeoff. Despite making more mate choice errors, however, faster explorers were more likely to successfully copulate with females, compared to slower explorers, indicating that speed may be favored over accuracy in systems where heavily male-biased sex ratios lead to scramble competition. Overall, this work highlights the role of personality in sexual selection and demonstrates that personality can influence speed-accuracy trade-offs in mating.

Serbian researchers papers in Web of Science database in the period 2003-2021

This is dataset about Serbian papers published in journals indexed in Web of Science collections in the period 2003-2021
We used as "serbian" countries: Serbia, Serbia and Montenegro, Yugoslavia

The terms Serbian researcher and Serbian paper used in this dataset are defined as follows:
Serbian researcher is a researcher affiliated with a Serbian institution,
Serbian paper is a paper with at least one Serbian researcher in the list of authors.
This means that a paper published by a researcher with non-Serbian nationality (i.e. German) working at a Serbian institution is taken into account in the analysis of Serbian papers described in this paper.

Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science (WoS) database was used for data acquisition. We searched Serbian papers in two WoS collections - Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). The search query executed over those collections on 18th of January, 2022.
CU=(%Serbia% OR %Serbia and Montenegro% OR %Yugoslavia%) AND PY=[2003-2021]

We also analyzed the number of articles of Serbian researchers published in journals with an unstable impact factor (IF), i.e. journals which didn’t have an IF before 2008, and had one in some subperiod of 2008-2015, i.e. lost their IF until 2015. The majority of those journals stopped being indexed in Web of Science as a ban for losing the quality or having predatory journal behavior. We found 143 such journals and their ISSNs by using the JCR (Journal citation reports in the period 2007 - 2015).

Kamakura Period Umi-Bune 鎌倉時代海船 Japanese Boat
Replica of the Kamakura Period Umi-Bune, Japanese Boat. The replica was made following museum photos and blueprints so it should be mostly correct. I was selling this model on CGtrader, however, I decided that it's way better to give this model for free because due to the high percentage CGtrader wanted, and generally hassle transfering funds and so on I decided it's only better to give it out for free. This is a replica from historical refs of a LP umi-bune boat. You can use it for your personal projects. I hope this boat may help your historical projects and concepts. DARDAR 1˚x1˚ gridded statistics of cloud fraction by cloud phase type over the Arctic for the period 2007 - 2010

Description

These files, further described below, contain the necessary DARDAR variables to reproduce the figures and tables of Cesana et al. (2024), which are not publically available. The cloud phase statistics have been processed over the Arctic only (60˚N to 82˚N) for the years 2007 to 2010, and accumulated onto a 1˚x1˚ spatial grid, using the DARDAR instantaneous files (Delanoe and Logan, 2010).

dardar_grid_2D_2007-2010.nc: This file contains the monthly mean total, ice, liquid and mixed 2D cloud covers (clt, clt_ice, clt_water and clt_mixed, respectively), as well as the total number of profiles per grid box (total_profiles), the latitude and longitude (lat, lon) and the time.

dardar_grid_3D_2007-2010.nc: This file contains the same variables as the 2D files except with the altitude dimension, over 40 480m altitude bins, from 0 to 19.2 km. Alt corresponds to the mid-level altitude of each altitude bins.

References

Cesana, G.V., O. Pierpaoli, M. Ottaviani, L. Vu, Z. Jin and I. HYDROUSA solutions_Payback period datasets

This report presents the payback periods estimated for the HYDROUSA exploitation scenarios. It is an extraction of non-confidential information from the Deliverable 8.10 ‘Business Plan for Exploitation issue #2’. The exploitation scenarios of HYDROUSA are based on the services provided for the end-users combining one or more technologies and promoting the circularity concept of HYDROUSA solutions as well as the non-conventional sources of water. They include the following: HYDRO1 (Circleflow): Resource recovery from wastewater treatment, HYDRO1&2 (HYDRO-Crop): Resource recovery from wastewater treatment together with irrigation/fertigation of an agroforestry system using the nutrient-rich reclaimed water, HYDRO3 (HYDROp3): Rainwater harvesting system and irrigation of high value crops with low irrigation requirements, HYDRO4 (Raincatch): Decentralised rainwater harvesting and aquifer storage and recovery system, HYDRO5 (MANGROVE Still): Seawater and brine desalination used to irrigate fruits in a greenhouse and HYDRO6 (HYDROLODGE): Closing water loops within eco-tourist facilities.
A separate annex is provided with the value used for estimating the payback periods for each scenario (CAPEX, OPEX, Revenues & savings). This report provides also an estimation of carbon sequestration/emissions reduction and job creation. A summary of all findings is given in the last chapter.

A synthetic dataset for the exploration of survival and classification models: prediction of heart attack or stroke within a 10-year follow-up period

Machine learning methodologies are increasingly popular in health care research. This shift to integrated data science approaches necessitates professional development of the existing health care data analyst workforce. To enhance a smooth transition, educational resources need to be developed. Barriers to accessing real healthcare datasets, vital for health care data analyses methodologies training purposes, include financial, ethical and patient confidentiality concerns. Synthetic datasets mimicking real-world complexities offer a simpler solution.

We present a synthetic dataset which mirrors routinely collected primary care data on heart attack and stroke among the adult population. The data incorporates much of the practical challenges encountered in routinely collected primary care systems such as missing data, informative censoring, interactions, variable irrelevance, and noise and can be used for training in methods which handle these difficulties. The intent is for the user to build models of heart/stroke risk using survival-based methodologies.

By sharing this synthetic dataset openly, our goal is to contribute a transformative asset for professional training in health and social care data analysis. The dataset covers demographics, lifestyle variables, comorbidities, systolic blood pressure, hypertension treatment, family history of cardiovascular diseases, respiratory functioning, and experience of heart-attack and/or stroke. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in sophisticated healthcare datasets for training, fostering professional development of the health and social care research workforce.

This study is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research ARC Wessex and the National Centre for Research Methods. The views expressed in this summary are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the National Institute for Health and Care Research or the Department of Health and Social Care.
