Orthomosaics from panoramic photos for Hawaiian roadways
<p>Natural hazards pose a significant risk to transport infrastructure and can cause annual direct damage of 3.1 to 22 billion US dollars globally, with 84% of it being flooding-related. Cost-effective approaches to assessing road damage and conditions are vital for repairing and reconstructing the transportation infrastructure after hazards. We conducted a study that presents a novel methodology developed for generating highly detailed orthomosaics of road surfaces, achieving millimeter-level spatial resolution. The approach utilizes panoramic photos obtained from a mobile camera system, coupled with Structure-from-Motion (SfM) technology. A key aspect of the methodology is the accurate masking of the ego-vehicle, sky, and moving objects (such as vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians) present in the street scenes captured by the photos. This masking process involves a combination of deep learning algorithms, image processing techniques, and manual editing. The study demonstrates that removing these objects from the images significantly improves photo alignment precision and enhances the overall quality of the orthomosaics. The resulting orthomosaics are found to be highly applicable for GIS analysis and the assessment of road conditions and damages.</p>
Photos of a White Wall in Varying Illumination Settings using Sony A6400
<p>This dataset contains photos of a plain white wall, taken with the Sony A6400 camera with the Sony SEL18135 lens, under varying exposure levels, for the purpose of parameter estimation for natural steganography. The zoom level is set 135mm (maximum) and the lens is out-of-focus. The ISO and shutter speed are manually varied to generate different exposure levels. All other settings of the camera are default. The scene is illuminated by four Four Lupa Superpanel Dualcolour LED panels placed 1.5m away from the wall, with power set to 50% and colour temperature 5600K. A detailed documentation of the creation and analysis of this dataset is published in an article titled Dataset, Noise Analysis, and Automated Parameter Estimation for Natural Steganography by Woo, Yiu, Yin, and Lai in IH&MMSec'24.</p>

2,3:6,7‒Naphthalene bis(dicarboximide) Cyclophane: A Photo‒functional Host for Ambient Delayed Fluorescence in Solution
<p>Additional data to report <a href="https://doi.org/10.1002/anie.202411102">https://doi.org/10.1002/anie.202411102</a>:</p> <p><a name="_Hlk167963038"></a>Harvesting triplet excitons of heavy atom-free purely organic chromophores under aerated conditions is challenging due to the quenching of long-lived triplet states by molecular oxygen and vibrational dissipation. Herein, we show a supramolecular approach of triplet harvesting via mitigating quenching pathways of a triplet harvester. Specifically, we used a host–guest system based on <a name="_Hlk169085902"></a>2,3:6,7‒naphthalene bis(dicarboximide)-derived cyclophane (<strong>NBICy</strong>) and carbazole derivative (<strong>EtCz</strong>). Complexation studies and single-crystal X-ray analysis showed the formation of a rigid host–guest complex (<em>K</em> = ~104 M-1 in CCl4), resulting in triplet-exciton stabilization under aerated conditions via mitigating vibrational interference and oxygen quenching. Photophysical studies elucidate the delayed fluorescence emission from the charge-transfer state (1CT) with a quantum yield (QY) of 6-8% under ambient conditions which increased up to 36 % in an inert atmosphere.</p>
