<p>24 HYDRAD hydrodynamic simulations from the paper "Mass Flows in Expanding Coronal Loops" by Reep, Scott, Chhabra, Unverferth & Knizhnik, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal, 2024 (https://arxiv.org/abs/2403.12358). Each of Figures 1, 2, 3, and 9 have six simulations with varying cross-sectional area expansion factors. These simulations were used to generate the plots in the paper.</p> <p>The output of the simulation data can be found in the ./Results/ folder of each simulation's directory. The source code was modified to hard code the expansion factors in ./HYDRAD/source/eqns.cpp, under the functions double CEquations::CalculateMagneticField and double CEquations::CalculateCrossSection, rather than using polynomial fits as is standard in HYDRAD. </p> <p> </p>

Data from: Fractal characteristics of shale pore structure and its influence on seepage flow
<p>The migration law of shale gas has a significant influence on the seepage characteristics of shale, and the flow of the gas is closely related to the pore structure. To explore the influence of shale pore parameters on permeability in different diffusion zones, the pore structure of the shale in the Niutitang Formation in Guizhou, China, was analyzed based on liquid nitrogen adsorption experiments and nuclear magnetic resonance experiments. The relationship among fractal dimension, organic carbon content (TOC), and BET specific surface area was analyzed based on the fractal dimension of shale pores calculated using the Frenkel‒Halsey‒Hill model. Shale permeability was calculated using the Knudsen number and permeability equation, and the influence of the fractal dimension and porosity in different diffusion zones on shale permeability was analyzed. Previous studies have shown that: (1) the pores of shale in the Niutitang Formation, Guizhou are mainly distributed within 1‒100 nm, with a small total pore volume per unit mass, average pore diameter, large BET specific surface area, and porosity; (2) fractal dimension has a negative correlation with average pore diameter and TOC content and a quadratic relationship with BET specific surface area; (3) permeability has a positive correlation with Kn, porosity, and fractal dimension. In the transitional diffusion zone, fractal dimension and porosity have a significant impact on permeability. In the Knudsen diffusion zone, porosity has no obvious effect on permeability. The methodologies and results presented will enable more accurate characterization of the complexity of pore structures of porous media, and allow further understanding of the seepage law of shale gas.</p>

<p>Supplementary figures, tables and raw data for the article " "A data-driven simulation of the trophallactic network and intranidal food flow dissemination in ants."</p> <p><strong>Food sharing can occur in both social and non-social species but is crucial in eusocial species in which only some group members collect food. This food collection but also intranidal food distribution through trophallactic (i.e. mouth-to-mouth) exchanges are fundamental issues in eusocial insects. However, the behavioural rules underlying the regulation and the dynamics of food intake and the resulting networks of exchanges are poorly understood. In this study, we provide new insights </strong><strong>into</strong><strong> the behavioural rules underlying the structure of trophallactic networks and food dissemination dynamics within the colony. We build a simple data-driven model that implements interindividual variability and division of labour to investigate the processes of food accumulation/dissemination inside the nest, both at the individual and collective </strong><strong>levels</strong><strong>. We also test the alternative hypotheses (no variability and no division of labour). Division of labour with inter-individual variability predicts contrary to other models the food dynamics and exchange networks. We establish the links between the interindividual heterogeneity of the trophallactic behaviours, the food flow dynamics and network of trophallactic events</strong>.<strong> Despite the relative simplicity of the model rules, efficient trophallactic networks may emerge as the ones observed in ants leading to better understanding of evolution of such societies.</strong></p> <p> </p>
Data from: Do genetic drift and gene flow affect the geographic distribution of female plants in gynodioecious Lobelia siphilitica?
<p>Variation in population sex ratio is particularly pronounced in gynodioecious angiosperms. Extremely high female frequencies in gynodioecious populations cannot be readily explained by selective forces alone. To assess the contributions of drift and gene flow to extreme sex-ratio variation, we documented sex ratio and population size in 92 populations of <em>Lobelia siphilitica</em> across its range and genotyped plants using plastid and nuclear genetic markers. Similarity in spatial patterns of genetic and demographic variables may suggest that drift and/or gene flow have contributed to population sex-ratio variation in <em>L. siphilitica</em>. We found strong spatial structuring of extremely high female frequencies: populations with >50% female plants are restricted to the south–central portion of the range. However, we did not detect any spatial structuring in population size nor metrics of genetic diversity, suggesting that extreme variation in female frequency is not strongly affected by drift or gene flow. Extreme sex-ratio variation is frequently observed in gynodioecious plants, but its causes are difficult to identify. Further investigation into mechanisms that create or maintain spatial structure of sex ratios in gynodioecious species will provide much needed insight.</p>

Mass of liquid (water or saline solution) released from the pump is recorded using a reference scale as a function of time with a step of 1s. Data from: Origin and role of the cerebrospinal fluid bidirectional flow in the central canal
<p>The circulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) plays pivotal roles for body axis formation and brain development. During embryogenesis, CSF is rich in particles and proteins and flows bidirectionally in the central canal. The origins of bidirectional flow and its impact on development are unknown. Experiments combined with modeling and simulations demonstrate that the bidirectionality of CSF flow is generated locally by caudally-polarized motile cilia confined to the ventral wall of the central canal. Such active bidirectional flow of the CSF accelerates the long-range transport of particles propagating rostrally and caudally. In addition, spontaneous muscle contractions increase local CSF flow and consequently enhance long-range transport of extracellular lipidic particles. Focal ablation of the channel connecting brain ventricles to the central canal reduces embryo length, indicating that long-range transport contributes to embryonic growth. Our study also demonstrates that at this early stage, motile cilia ensure the proper formation of the central canal.</p>
Data from: Comparative landscape genetic analyses show a Belgian motorway to be a gene flow barrier for red deer (Cervus elaphus), but not wild boars (Sus scrofa)
While motorways are often assumed to influence the movement behaviour of large mammals, there are surprisingly few studies that show an influence of these linear structures on the genetic make-up of wild ungulate populations. Here, we analyse the spatial genetic structure of red deer (Cervus elaphus) and wild boars (Sus scrofa) along a stretch of motorway in the Walloon part of Belgium. Altogether 876 red deer were genotyped at 13 microsatellite loci, and 325 wild boars at 14 loci. In the case of the red deer, different genetic clustering tools identified two genetic subpopulations whose borders matched the motorway well. Conversely, no genetic structure was identified in the case of the wild boar. Analysis of isolation-by-distance patterns of pairs of individuals on the same side and on different sides of the motorway also suggested that the road was a barrier to red deer, but not to wild boar movement. While telemetry studies seem to confirm that red deer are more affected by motorways then wild boar, the red deer sample size was also much larger than that of the wild boars. We therefore repeated the analysis of genetic structure in the red deer with randomly sub-sampled datasets of decreasing size. The power to detect the genetic structure using clustering methods decreased with decreasing sample size.
