Sapelo Island Marsh pCO2, turbidity, and salinity, Summer 2021
This data package includes biogeochemical data from Sapelo Island marsh, Georgia, USA, collected during the summer of 2021. Specifically, this data includes partial pressure of CO2 in water and air measured by the CO2-LAMP monitoring platform, as well as salinity and turbidity measured by the Smart Rock. Units of measurement are parts per million for pCO2, uS/cm for salinity, and Volts for relative turbidity. This data package has been completed.
Everglades Saltwater Intrusion Marsh Surface Water Dissolved CO2 June 19th to 25th 2022
Dissolved CO2 (ppm) was measured in surface water at the Everglades saltwater intrusion marsh eddy covariance flux tower (US-EvM on AmeriFlux) for one week in June 2022. Minute resolution measurements were made using the CO2-LAMP (Blackstock et al., 2019).
Turbidity of a Salt Marsh within the Altamaha River estuary, GA, USA, 2015-2017
We measured turbidity along a transect from channel to marsh interior for 1 year, beginning in June 2016 at a salt mash in the Altamaha River estuary. We measured turbidity (NTU) with three optical back scatter sensors to in a shore normal transect, with one in the channel (YSI 6600), and two on the marsh surface. The “marsh edge sensor” was 2.4m from the channel edge (Seapoint, RBR Solo) and the “marsh interior sensor” was 18m from the edge (Seapoint, RBR Duo; Figure 1c). The sensors measured every 15 minutes and were equipped with automatic wipers to reduce biofouling. Following retrieval, the turbidity time series data was filtered to remove any erroneous points and times when the sensors were fouled or exposed (Ganju et al. 2005). Turbidity was then calibrated to suspended sediment concentration with local sediment resulting in the calibration equation SSC (mg/L) =1.33*Sensor Turbidity (NTU) (R2=0.9345, n=26, p<<0.001).

We measured turbidity (NTU) with three optical back scatter sensors (YSI EXO) to in a shore normal transect, with one in the channel and two on the marsh surface at 1m from the marsh edge and 12m from the marsh edge, respectively. The sensors measured every 15 minutes and were equipped with automatic wipers to reduce biofouling. Following retrieval, the turbidity time series data was filtered to remove any erroneous points and times when the sensors were fouled or exposed (Coleman et al. 2020). Turbidity was then calibrated to suspended sediment concentration with local sediment resulting in the calibration equation SSC (mg/L) =1.667*Sensor Turbidity (NTU)
Fall 2013 grasshopper monitoring -- mid-marsh grasshopper abundance and species diversity at eight GCE LTER sampling sites
Grasshopper abundance and species diversity were investigated at eight sampling sites within the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems (GCE) LTER study area in August 2013. Visual surveys were conducted along 8 2m by 10m transects randomly allocated within the mid-marsh zone at each site. All grasshoppers observed within each transect were counted and identified to species, if possible. This survey was conducted as part of the GCE invertebrate monitoring program, and will be performed annually to assess long-term changes in relative species abundances across the GCE study area.
