MatSeg DataSet and Benchmark For Zero-Shot Material States Segmentation From images

This is an old version for the new version see https://zenodo.org/records/11331618

A Dataset and Benchmark for zero-shot segmentation of materials states described in: “Learning Zero-Shot Material States Segmentation, by Implanting Natural Image Patterns in Synthetic Data” Described in https://arxiv.org/pdf/2403.03309.pdf

See ReadMe in the zip file for technical details.

MatSeg Benchmark

A benchmark for zero-shot material state segmentation. The benchmark contains 820 real-world images with a wide range of material states and settings. For example: food states (cooked/burned..), plants (infected/dry.), to rocks/soil (minerals/sediment), construction/metals (rusted, worn), liquids (foam/sediment), and many other states in a class-agnostic manner. The goal is to evaluate the segmentation of material materials without knowledge or pretraining on the material or setting. The focus is on materials with complex scattered boundaries, and gradual transition (like the level of wetness of the surface). The annotation of the benchmark is point-based and similarity-based. Hence, for each image, we select several points and regions (Figure 4). We group the points of the same materials into the same label, we also define a group of points that have partial similarity. For example points in group A are more similar to points in group B than to points in group C (In case materials A and B are similar to each other but not identical). This approach allows us to capture the complexity of gradual transition and partial similarities in the world. While also enabling dealing with complex scattered and blurry shapes without needing to annotate the full shape which in many cases is unclear or very hard.

Files MatSegBenchmark*.zip

MatSeg synthetic Dataset Samples

Synthethic dataset of images of materials spread on object surfaces and their segmentation map.

The synthetic dataset is a very big, sample of the dataset as been uploaded.

Files: MatSegSynthehticDataSample*.zip

The full dataset can be found in this URLS:

https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=kZHCcnZOfzqInb3anSl7xzFBoqCDmkr2JKV

https://icedrive.net/s/SBb3g9WzQ5wZuxX9892Z3R4bW8jw

Generation Script for the synthetic data:

https://github.com/sagieppel/MatSeg-Synthethic-Dataset-Generation-Script

https://zenodo.org/records/10822596

Database on available 2D materials

This deliverable is a database of exfoliable three-dimensional (3D) layered materials available for 2D-PRINTABLE, and the corresponding two-dimensional (2D) materials produced by project partners by means of various exfoliation methods in liquid media, including liquid-phase exfoliation method (LPE), electrochemical exfoliation (EE) and chemical exfoliation (CE). Exfoliable 3D layered materials are those synthesized and currently available at VSCHT facilities, while LPE-produced 2D materials are those produced by BeD, UKa, TCD TUD and VSCHT. The database includes the main specifications for exfoliable 3D layered materials, including their (physical) form (e.g., powder/crystal and corresponding dimension), stoichiometry and doping, as well as the material amount that can be supplied within the consortium. For 2D materials, the database reports the references to public documents (e.g., paper in international peer-reviewed journal or public repositories) showing material characterizations.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101135196. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union. Data for the publication: High performance of porous, hierarchically structured P2- Na0.6Al0.11 – xNi0.22 – yFex+yMn0.66O2 cathode materials

Data sets: SEM-images, EIS, ex situ XRD, operando XRD, electrochemical cycling.

Abstract: Sodium-ion-batteries (SIB) are a low-cost alternative to currently used lithium-ion batteries (LIB) but suffer from poor cycling stability. Spray drying provides porous, hierarchically structured particles of cathode active material (CAM) in large amounts, suitable for up-scaling. Changing the chemical composition of the Na0.6Al0.11–xNi0.22–yFex+yMn0.66O2 layered oxides under identical synthesis conditions leads to differences in particle morphology, conductivities, sodium vacancy ordering and phase transition, therefore influencing the electrochemical performance via several mechanisms. Here, a broad overview on these changes for samples with variable nickel and iron content is presented. With increasing iron content, the particle porosity is reduced and lower of initial capacity is received for most cycling windows. Substituting half of the original Ni amount with Fe still leads to high capacities and improved cycling stability. The influence of Al as electrochemical inactive element becomes visible in stabilised cycling stability as well.

Numerical simulation of friction extrusion: Process characteristics and material deformation due to friction

This study employs a finite element thermo-mechanical model, using a Lagrangian incremental setting to investigate friction extrusion (FE) under varying process conditions. The incorporation of rotation in FE generates substantial frictional heat, leading to significantly reduced process forces in comparison to conventional extrusion (CE). The model reveals the interplay between temperature, strain, and strain rate across different microstructural zones of the resulting wire. Specifically, the sticking friction condition in FE enhances initial shear deformation, aligning with a homogeneous spatial strain distribution and predicting complete grain refinement in the extruded wire, as per Zener-Hollomon calculations. On the other hand, under the sliding friction condition in FE, the shear deformation is reduced which results in an inhomogeneous microstructure in the extruded wire. The analysis of material flow in the workpiece reveals distinct transitions from the base material to the thermo-mechanically affected zones. The simulated process force, thermal history, and microstructure during sliding friction conditions align well with the findings from performed friction extrusion experiments.

Supplementary materials for Phylogenomics and genetic analysis of solvent-producing Clostridium species

The genus Clostridium is a large and diverse group within the Bacillota (formerly Firmicutes), whose members can encode useful complex traits such as solvent production, gas-fermentation, and lignocellulose breakdown. We describe 270 genome sequences of solventogenic clostridia from a comprehensive industrial strain collection assembled by Professor David Jones that includes 194 C. beijerenckiI, 57 C. saccharobutylicum, 4 C. saccharoperbutylacetonicum, 5 C. butyricum, 7 C. acetobutylicum, and 3 C. tetanomorphum genomes. We report methods, analyses and characterization for phylogeny, key attributes, core biosynthetic genes, secondary metabolites, plasmids, prophage/CRISPR diversity, cellulosomes and quorum sensing for the 6 species. The expanded genomic data described here will facilitate engineering of solvent-producing clostridia as well as non-model microorganisms with innately desirable traits. Sequences could be applied in conventional platform biocatalysts such as yeast or Escherichia coli for enhanced chemical production. Recently, gene sequences from this collection were used to engineer Clostridium autoethanogenum, a gas-fermenting autotrophic acetogen, for continuous acetone or isopropanol production, as well as butanol, butanoic acid, hexanol and hexanoic acid production.
