FIGURE 3 in Typification of the name Kalanchoe daigremontiana (Crassulaceae subfam. Kalanchooideae)
FIGURE 3. Reproductive strategies in Kalanchoe daigremontiana. A. Bulbils produced on the margins of the leaf blades. B. Bulbils, some already forming roots, produced on the inflorescence, post-flowering. The desiccating follicles have started releasing seed. C. Rootproducing plantlets forming on the peduncle. The plantlets remain attached to and survive long after the peduncle has become completely desiccated, as here. D. Kalanchoe daigremontiana seedlings rapidly produce significant biomass. Two seedlings, both 14 months old and grown in exactly the same growing medium and under the same environmental conditions, are illustrated: K. daigremontiana (left) and K. leblanciae (right). All photographs by Gideon F. Smith.
FIGURE 2 in Typification of the name Kalanchoe daigremontiana (Crassulaceae subfam. Kalanchooideae)
FIGURE 2. Intraspecific variability in Kalanchoe daigremontiana. All plants photographed on the same day. A. Plant in bud originating from the Makay Massif, presenting narrow, yellow-brown-coloured, foliage, with distinct blotches on the adaxial surface where the petiole attaches to the leaf blade base (insert). B. A form, also in bud, which is commonly encountered in cultivation, showing green colouration and broader, less succulent foliage. C. Plant similar to some variants encountered where K. daigremontiana and K. tubiflora grow sympatrically in southern Madagascar. Though still identifiable as K. daigremontiana, it shows some traits of K. tubiflora and K. ×houghtonii, such as darker colouration, a shorter, less distinct inflorescence, and a distinctly maculate petiole (not seen in the figure). All photographs by Ronen Shtein.

Plant with substantially elongated internodes during the rainy season. C. Inflorescence of a light pink flowered form. D. Flower colour ranges from dull light pinkish purple (left) to dark pinkish purple (right). The flower on the right is 24 mm long. All photographs by Gideon F. Smith.
