Dataset - A Python-Based Approach to Sputter Deposition Simulations in Combinatorial Materials Science

This dataset accompanies the publication "A Python-Based Approach to Sputter Deposition Simulations in Combinatorial Materials Science," which presents and validates pySIMTRA, a Python wrapper for the Monte Carlo-based SIMTRA simulation tool. The dataset includes all measured and simulated data shown in the publication, as well as additional animations visualizing the compositions in the multinary composition space.

The dataset contains the compositions for each of the seven materials libraries (in at.%) in the quaternary Ni-Pd-Pt-Ru system. Additionally, it provides the simulated number of particles as outputted by SIMTRA, which serve as the basis for composition estimation. Both the compositional data and the particle counts are supplied in .csv format. To supplement the results, 3D animations of the quaternary compositional spaces are included, showing the comparison between simulated compositions (red dots) and measured compositions (blue dots). These animations offer a more intuitive visualization of the data compared to the static Figures in the publication and are supplied as .gif files.

Due to the in-depth analysis of cathode tilt discussed in the paper, the dataset also includes simulation results for the ternary Pd-Pt-Ru library, highlighting the effect of varying the cathode tilt angle. Simulations were conducted for tilt angles of 10°, 9.5°, 9°, and 8.5°.

Supplementary material for the article "Reaching Meaning through Language: What can Children Tell Us about Distributivity?"

This data set includes the supplementary material for the article "Reaching Meaning through Language: What can Children Tell Us about Distributivity?". All content is documented in the README.md file.

Abstract: Sentences with a plural subject receive a distributive reading if the predicate refers to the atomic members or a collective one if it relates to the whole group. Previous accounts suggest that the distributive representation includes an additional semantic operator, and comprehension experiments show that adults interpret an ambiguous sentence as collective. However, children accept distributive readings more often, questioning their presumed greater difficulty. The current study investigates these interpretations in a novel way through a production study. Italian adults and preschoolers described distributive and collective pictures. We found that adults produced more distributive expressions, in line with semantic theories and psycholinguistic findings. Children were not fully sensitive to the need to express markers disambiguating the two readings. However, when they recognised the difference between pictures, they produced more collective markers, different from adults. We discussed our results at the intersection of language acquisition, semantic theories, and cognitive development.

Supplementary material for "Food availability affects parental anti-predator behaviour in red kites"

Abstract

Parental investment theory proposes two non-mutually exclusive hypotheses to explain variation in anti-predator behaviour in relation to the age of offspring: the “reproductive value of offspring” hypothesis and the “harm to offspring” hypothesis. The relative importance of the two factors underlying the hypotheses, reproductive value and harm, may change depending on environmental conditions such as food availability. To test the relative importance of the two hypotheses under different food conditions, we conducted a supplementary feeding experiment in red kite (Milvus milvus) breeding pairs and used a live eagle owl (Bubo bubo) as decoy nest predator to trigger anti-predator behaviour. We used time-to-capture in mist nets mounted next to the decoy predator as proxy for mobbing intensity. Under natural food conditions we found a nearly constant mobbing intensity throughout the entire nestling period. However, under food-enhanced conditions mobbing intensity was reduced in parents with young nestlings and increased in parents with old nestlings. These results suggest greater importance of the “reproductive value of offspring” hypothesis in situations of favourable food availability. Moreover, mobbing intensity depended on brood size and weather conditions. The results suggest that parental anti-predator investment increases with the reproductive value of the brood under favourable breeding conditions, but that this pattern is adjusted to the current context, including the vulnerability of the brood and environmental conditions.

A benchmark dataset for the grazing flow over porous materials

Wind-tunnel data of a grazing flow over porous wall-inserts to be used as a benchmark dataset for the development and validation of numerical modeling approaches of flows over and through porous media.

The dataset contains several profiles along the streamwise extent of the wall-insert of the mean velocity magnitude, the turbulent intensity, and the turbulent length scale. Also included are some boundary-layer parameters of these profiles. These have been derived from single-component constant temperature hot-wire measurements.

Additionally, the spectra of the unsteady wall-pressure fluctuations at several locations on the upper and lower surfaces of the porous wall-inserts are provided. These unsteady pressure measurements have been acquired using semi-infinite waveguide-type remote-microphone probes.

Tested are two porous media with the same diamond-lattice pattern structure but different permeabilities and a reference solid-walled case. All three cases are tested at three inflow velocities: 15 m/s, 20 m/s, and 25 m/s.

Modification in v3: Correction of permeability values in Table 1 on page 3 of AIAA_Manuscript_GrazingFlowPorousMaterials_v3.pdf.
